Nigerian striker,Henry Onyekuru is delighted to have signed a five year deal with English Premier League side,Everton.


Onyekuru becomes the third player signed by coach Ronald Koeman after the club confirmed Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen and Jordan Pickford this off season.

A deal for Spanish star Sandro Ramirez is also in line as well for the Toffees.

He will also become the fifth Nigerian player to represent the club when he makes his debut after Joseph Yobo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Victor Anichebe and Hope Akpan.

"I feel very happy and delighted with this move to Everton," Onyekuru told Everton TV.

He also wrote via his Instagram page @c.henry21: "#thankful"

Onyekuru who will complete his £7m move to Goodision Park on Friday after passing medicals will be shipped out on loan to Belgian Champions Anderlecht for the 2017/18 season, where he is expected to gain more experience, and continue his development.

Nigeria international was the top scorer in Belgium's Super League last season with 20 goals for KAS Eupen.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged the Muslim Ummah in the country to look for the new Moon of Shawwal on Saturday, June 24.

The Sultan made the call in a statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali yesterday


“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Saturday, June 24, which is equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan,1438 AH, shall be the day to look for the new Moon of Shawwal, 1438 AH. Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal, 1438 AH, Saturday. They should report its sighting to the nearest District of Village Head, for onward communication to the Sultan,” he said.

PHOTO: Managing Director Sentenced To Six Months Imprisonment For Issuing Dub Cheques

Justice R. I Ahiakwo of the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt today convicted and sentenced the managing director of Topsam Nigeria Limited and MCmalay Integrated Services Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Ayoola to six (6) months imprisonment with an option of fine, for issuing two dud cheques to settle some financial obligations totaling N8,000,000.00k( Eight Million Naira only) to a micro finance bank.


The convict was first arraigned in September 2012 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an amended 2-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheques. Ayoola was alleged to have issued two dud cheques ( a First Bank Nig. Plc cheque no 0043425886 dated 23 March 2011 in the sum of Six Million Naira(N6,000,000.00) in favour of Resort Saving & Loan Plc in the name of Topsam Nigeria Limited and another, a Diamond bank Plc cheque no 32222021 dated 31 March, 2012 in the sum of Two Million Naira(N2,000,000.00) in favour of the same Resort Saving & Loan Plc in the name of MCmalay Integrated Services Limited. Investigations by the EFCC showed that, when the cheques were presented, they were returned unpaid due to insufficient funds.

The convict initially pleaded guilty to the charges pressed against him. However, midway into the trial, Ayoola instructed his counsel, D. Cole Esq to apply for a plea bargain, which was granted by the court. Consequent upon the plea bargain, he pleaded guilty and the court subsequently convicted and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of fine. The court did not call for further restitution, as the defendant, prior to the plea bargain, had made full restitution of the total sum of Eight Million Naira (N8, 000,000.00).

The management of of the Hilton Hotel, where a 300Level Pharmacy student of Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) student died, said the deceased was a good swimmer and trainer.

Emmanuel Fatile drowned inside the swimming pool on Sunday, June 18. He had gone to the hotel with two friends and after they were done, he entered the pool again to swim alone but this time, he drowned.

The other students called for help but those present could not swim. By the time a lifeguard arrived, it was too late. He was confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital.

The General Manager of the hotel, Mr John Olalekan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ile-Ife that the deceased, had initially completed his swimming before going back into the pool. He said all efforts to save Fatile, who came in company with two friends to the hotel, proved abortive.

"I want to put it straight that our swimming pool is fenced and secure. The person that died inside the swimming pool was an expert and a trainer himself," said Olalekan.

"He usually teaches other people how to swim. He had already completed swimming; he came out and went back inside the pool again. It is only God that can tell what happened. It is not explainable. If he was an amateur that came to swim, we couldn’t have allowed him to swim without using the floaters and tubes.

"We even give experts tubes. I think it is the wish of God. It is an unfortunate thing. This is the first time such will be happening. No one has died in our hotel before," he said.

The Unit C Owerri zone of the Nigeria Customs Service recently destroyed 4118 cartons of frozen poultry with duty paid value of N83,389,500 in Owerri.

Comptroller Amajam Bukar, the Controller Federal Operations Unit Zone C Owerri said the seizure of the poultry products which was transported in a 1X40ft container, was achieved through a tip off from an informant to operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone C Owerri.

Comptroller Amajam who stressed that frozen poultry products is illegal and an import prohibition called on the public not to patronise such products which he said are harmful to human health.

Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo met with leaders of thought and traditional leaders from South east Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja.


Prof. Osinbajo first met with some group last week over the agitation for a Biafra and ejection of Igbos from the Nothern part of the country.


Here are things the Acting President told the leaders on Sunday:


- There has been agitation from some of our youths in the South-East urging secession, the creation of Biafra. In apparent response, young people in the North, under the aegis of Arewa youths have purportedly issued an ultimatum where they have set a date for the eviction of persons from South-East region who live in the Northern states.


The manner of those agitations, the method and objectives are wrong, unlawful and the violation of the laws of Nigeria and the constitution of Nigeria. I want to repeat that both the agitations for secession and the ultimatum to leave the Northern states are wrong and a violation of our constitution.


- Our constitution says in Section 2 that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that is the law of our country.


Let us not be in any doubt about the fact that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that our country remains united.





- And that anyone who violates the law in the manner such as we are seeing all over the place will be met with the full force of the law.


- And the reason why it is so, is because Nigeria's unity is one for which enough blood has been spilled and many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost. Many have paid for the unity of this country with their lives and it will be wrong of us as men and women of goodwill in this generation to toy with those sacrifices that have been made.


- This is the reason why men and women of goodwill in our generation must not tolerate any tendency that drags us in the direction of yet another civil conflict.


But we must be sensitive to the reasons why there are agitations by the various young men and in fact several others across the various zones of this country. Many have to do with perceived marginalization, some have argued, safety in the different zones have been compromised in various ways.


- But I want to say the only way to make things right is to do things right. And it will be wrong of us to approach even our grievances by threatening to disobey the laws or by threatening the integrity of our nation.


- What the Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to do is ensuring we listen to all the reasons, the various suggestions, the various agitations, and the reasons for those agitations and to ensure that we do justice by all persons regardless of where you are from in this country. That is the commitment of Federal Government which I am able to make to you today.


- Our greatness lies in our being together and I believe very strongly that as our royal fathers, you will ensure the message is clear to all, that the greatness of any people lies in their ability to work together despite our differences, despite the types of offense that have been caused between each other, the greatness of any community lies in unity.


- I trust that you, our royal fathers, will give us the right directional advice to ensure that our country remains together.

A HIV-positive baby has been abandoned by his mother at GRA Benin city, Edo state yesterday. Sharing the photos of the child online, Facebook user, Cecilia James, said the mother dropped a note to indicate that her child was born with the viral disease. Cecelia wrote;
"Just finished doing omugwu for our new baby (an interesting experience) wish we could find the mother of this child and support her with funds to start a business and take care of her child, I'm sure she will be better off than going back into the streets.


Doctors just confirmed the Child is HIV positive (the more reason the mother should be found to avoid spread, HIV is no longer a death sentence ) pls if you know someone who knows someone who knows someone who had a baby yesterday in benin and didn't come home with the child, pls tell her to come and carry her child and some money to start her life again.. Abandoning the child is not the best option for both of them. Pls help share and let's find her".

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Health, has launched a campaign to ban smoking in 9 public places across the country.


In a communiqué, the ministry said according to Section 9 of the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act 2015, once convicted, offenders are liable to a fine of at least N50, 000 and/or six months’ imprisonment.


Tagged the Clean Air Campaign, the ministry said the law would henceforth be taken seriously in a bid to protect and promote the citizens’ right to health, life, physical integrity and safety.


To carry out the campaign successfully, the ministry also said it was being supported by the Cancer Society of Nigeria, World Health Organisation, ONE Campaign, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, Civil Society Organisations and the Tobacco Free Kids based in Washington DC, United States.


Public places where smoking is prohibited by law in Nigeria include:


- child care facilities


- educational facilities


- health care facilities


- playgrounds/amusement parks





- public parks (gardens)


- stadia


- restaurants/bars


- public transportation parks and


- Plazas.


“The Federal Ministry of Health is committed to the fight to ensure a tobacco-free Nigeria, and will in the weeks and months ahead actively collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure enforcement of the Act, and with the National Assembly to ensure that necessary supporting regulation is passed.”

The Kenyan Government has destroyed intimacy gadgets worth Ksh 300,000 (N1 million) intended for female university students in the Rift Valley region after Kenyan Revenue Authority intercepted the container in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County on Wednesday.


Speaking on the operation, the KRA North Rift coordinator, Florence Otori, noted that the intercepted and destroyed shipment of intimacy gadgets were meant for sale to women and female university students in the area.



She said: “It is unfortunate and disheartening to see businessmen and businesswomen import such gadgets into the country and resort to selling them in towns in Rift Valley. As KRA, we cannot allow the furthering of moral decadence by greedy businessmen and businesswomen who are only out to make money, forgetting the negative impact such gadgets can have on children, who may be tempted to try them out. As KRA we won’t allow the importation of such gadgets into the country.”



She further added: “It is shocking that women, who we look up to in society, are the ones buying such gadgets. Women should be epitomes of moral direction in society.”



Nairobiwire reported that KRA officers also seized substandard goods worth more than Sh1 million at Eldoret International Airport.



The KRA North Rift boss further added that other items intercepted and destroyed included cigarettes, medicines, pornographic material and fake seeds.



She said: “Some of the goods we destroyed are very harmful to health…the public must be made aware.”

Former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a swipe at ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to him, Jonathan’s administration could not deliver on most of the basic things because it was incompetence.

“If you follow my commentary two, three years into his government, it was clear that even the most basic things were not properly done. Competence that was expected was not there," he said in an interview published by The Interview.

“The level of fairness was not there. And even if you were to talk about the sentiment of servicing the geo-political zones, the south-south had nothing to boast of.

“Even the road to Yenagoa didn’t show that a president came from that area. I have travelled across Nigeria, so we in the south cannot say this is our dividend.

“He himself agreed that he didn’t do much for the south-south. Actually, that was not the real question. The real question was: where did he do?

“I remember he, Jonathan, called me about four days to the election over an advert I did. In the advert, I showed the pictures of the immigration recruitment they purported to have done in a stadium.

“That was the height of incompetence – that the federal government would defraud the unemployed people, ask them to pay some fees to attract a federal job.”

Popular Nigerian pastor Joshua Iginla shocked everyone as he gave out over N11 million and 39 cars to widows in South Africa, in order to mark his birthday.



The General Overseer of Champions Royal Assembly celebrated his birthday in South Africa by giving 34 widows 10,000 rands (N245,631) each.



He also gave 78-Year-old woman and five other widows cars each and 10 orphans 100,000 rands (N2,456,311) and a brand new Red V polo car. This event was reported to have taken place on Sunday, June 11, at one of his churches in Johannesburg.

In a rare display of tolerance, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, at the weekend, launched the New Testament Bible in Tera language, the local dialect in Lubo community of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The Speaker, a Muslim, however, expressed concerns over existential threats to indigenous languages in the country and urged leaders to evolve ways of preserving indigenous languages.

He, and members of the House who accompanied him also pledged to purchase 500 copies of the Bible for Christians in the locality who could not afford to acquire one.



He urged Christians in the locality to embody scriptural injunctions, and expressed confidence that a Bible in their language would help the achieve just that.



In statement by his special adviser on media, Mr. Hassan Turaki, the speaker said: “I believe that for Terra-speaking Christians this endeavor will make them better Christians as they seek to reflect Christ in character, content, discipline and in profession, it’s a commendable thing.”



The Speaker, who made several analogies from biblical narrations, including that of the tower of Babel, stressed the importance of preserving local languages as doing so has a great impact on unity and identity.



Referring to scriptures, he said: “In the early time when God wanted to disperse people, He took their language, and that has been included here in the story of the building of the tower of babel. We all know what happens when people set their hearts to achieve, and God said if I leave them, perhaps they might get to me, and the only way to scatter their determination was for God Himself to scatter their language, and that was the end of that project.



“And then when God sought to bring back his people and reunite them, he restored the language. It therefore means anyone who steals your language has stolen your unity, and you need unity to make progress. It was lack of unity on the account of the lack of the common language that destroyed the project of the tower of babel. So if Terra language were to go into extinction, I tell you it will affect the unity of the Terra people which is God-given.”
