Health / 5 Types Of People That Easily Attract Mosquitoes by 24hoursreporter: 1:13pm On Dec 11, 2018
Mosquitoes are a serious threat to humanity, this is due to the fact they are carriers of malaria. These insects don’t just bite anybody, you must have certain traits before mosquitoes go after you.

Have you ever seen a situation whereby two people are in a room, but only one person is complaining of mosquitoes bite? This is because he is one of the people that can easily attract mosquitoes.

5 Types Of People That Easily Attract Mosquitoes

#1. People That Like Wearing Bright Color Clothes

People who wear bright color clothes are targets of mosquitoes. Generally, mosquitoes are very visual and are easily attracted by bright colors.

As a rule, don’t wear colors like red or white when you are in a mosquito-infested environment. It is better you wear more of camouflage outfit that will not make you too visible.

#2. People With Type O Blood Group

According to researchers at the Institute of Pest Control Technology, Chiba, Japan, mosquitoes prefer people with Blood Type O to Blood type A.

As a matter of fact, Mosquitoes seldom bite people with Blood group A and show little interest with Blood B people. However, they are always looking for people with Blood group O to suck their blood.

#3. Fat People

Fat people are also among the categories of people that easily attract mosquitoes. This is due to the fact that they breathe out more carbon dioxide

It may interest you to know that mosquitoes can sense carbon dioxide 160 feet away. So, if you are fat and breathe out more carbon dioxide, you are likely to be under their radar.

#4. People That Emit A Lot Of Heat

People that generate a lot of heat are also attracted to mosquitoes. This is because mosquitoes generally sense sweat easily from a distance.

So, the more heat you emit, the more you sweat and the more likely mosquitoes will sense and go after you.

There are several objects we use every day with very strange origin. In this article, you will learn about the strange origin of some everyday objects we use.

Strange Origin Of 9 Everyday Objects We Use

#1. Viagra

#4. High Heel

The easiest way to overcome your fear is to realize that fear itself is a liar
Career / 5 Fears Men Live With Every Day by 24hoursreporter: 6:27am On Nov 29, 2018
We find ourselves in a world that is full of uncertainties. These uncertainties have created fears in many people. In this article, you will learn the 5 fears men live with every day.

Sometimes, fear limits our ability to achieve goals and aspirations in life. In fact, it makes us doubt ourselves and feel as if we are incompetent and unworthy of our dreams.

According to Marianne Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

5 Fears Men Live With Every day

#1. The Fear Of Failure

The fear of failure is one of the fears men live with every day. As a matter of fact, the fear of failure has limited many people from doing great things in life.

There are several people out there with mindblowing ideas that could change the world. However, the fear of failure discouraged them from taking little risks.

What you fail to realize is that most successful people have embraced failure severally in their lives before getting to where they are. So, take calculated risks, learn from your mistakes and keep doing what you know how to do best.

#2. The Fear Of Being Incompetent

Being incompetent is also among the fears men live with every day. It is in the habit of men to be useful, strive for excellence in their career, etc.

So, they constantly live in the fear of being incompetent and unable to deliver on assigned tasks. Instead of burying yourself in fear, you can identify an area you are good in and perfect your skill accordingly.

#3. The Fear Of Being Perceived Weak

There is nothing demoralizes a man than when other people perceived him as a weakling.

As a matter of fact, the shame and low self-esteem that comes from being perceived weak make a man very predictable and this is weakness itself.

#4. The Fear Of Being Irrelevant

Generally, men always want to be relevant and exercise dominion over other people. So, one of the fears they live with is the fear of being irrelevant.

Make yourself valuable to people around you and try to be outstanding at what you do. This will make you relevant in any place you find yourself.

#5. The Fear Of Looking Foolish

This is also one of the fears men live with every day. The fear of looking foolish has prevented many men from making valuable contributions in meetings and other social gatherings.

There is actually nothing wrong in saying the wrong thing in a gathering. After all, you are entitled to your own opinion. It is better to make mistakes for others to correct you than keeping your thoughts to yourself.

However, you have to make sacrifices for the relationship to work. In fact, she will barely have time for you.

5 Things To Do When Dating A Career Lady

#1. Encourage Her To Keep Her Passion Burning

One of the things to do when dating a career lady is to encourage her. Try to encourage her to keep her passion burning no matter what.

As a matter of fact, she tends to be more loyal to the relationship when you encourage her all the time. Give her tips on how to wither the storm of challenges and becomes successful.

If you can do this, she will always see you as her everything. In fact, she will confide in you more than any other person in this world.

#2. Be There For Her Always

Creativity and the ability to improvise is what makes Nigerians unique. In fact, no matter how challenging things are, an average Nigerian will always come up with a solution.

While people in other countries are suffering and living in abject poverty due to lack of government’s commitment to ameliorating the condition of the people, Nigerians will find means of surviving.

After extensive research, we discover that there are certain jobs that are peculiar to Nigeria. However, if you see people doing these jobs in other Africa countries, just know that they have either being to Nigeria or they are Nigerians.

5 Jobs That Are Peculiar To Nigeria

#1. New Currency Notes (Mint) Dealer

This is one of the jobs that you can see only in Nigeria. New currency note dealers are people who sell new and clean naira notes. Since most Nigerians are fond of spraying money in parties, these people will always make new notes available.

They make good money from it as they charge token for every new naira notes they change for you. You see them in Wedding parties and some strategic locations in popular cities.

#2. Agbero

Agbero is among the jobs that are peculiar to Nigeria. These guys are always on the road collecting money from every commercial bus and taxi drivers. They fight drivers, conductors and sometimes fight themselves.

They have ranks and positions in their career and sometimes the more daring and fierce they are, the more recognition they get from their colleagues.

Ordinarily, the job of an Agbero is to call on people to board buses, but this has changed to touting over the years.

#3. Local Vehicle Electrician (Re-Wire)

A Local Vehicle electrician is a roadside vehicle electrician who uses trial and error to detect the fault of your car.

They don’t really have the requisite technology to do the job, rather keep guessing until the vehicle starts working.

#4. High-Class Beggars

This is also a common job in Nigeria, you see these professionals in different cities across the country.

They always look good, cute and more importantly you will think they are top notch executives in a company. “Oops! If I hear, executive my foot, bros they are beggars”.

They will just approach and say “bros I beg they just rob me, help me with transport fare to reach house”. This is a first class scam o, don’t fall for it at all. Lagos has the highest population of high-class beggers.

#5. Funeral Criers

This is another unique profession or job in Nigeria. The services of Funeral criers are hired in Nigeria during burial, especially when the bereaved need more people to cry for their deceased loved ones.

Jobs/Vacancies / 7 Things You Should Know Before Editing Your CV by 24hoursreporter: 2:27pm On Nov 26, 2018
CV is one of the most important documents of jobseekers. It is the first thing that creates an impression about you before a recruiter meets you in person. So, how you edit your CV is very important.

For your CV to be perfect for any role you are applying for, it must be meticulously edited. In fact, you must fine-tune, scrutinize and fetch out all flaws and imperfection before your resume can be outstanding.

In this article, you will learn the things you should know before editing your CV. These tips discussed here will enable you to write a job winning CV.

7 Things You Should Know Before Editing Your CV

#1. Always List Your Most Impressive and Relevant Achievements First

One of the easiest ways a resume can make a good first impression is your achievement. Therefore, it is advisable to always to list your most impressive and relevant achievements on your CV.

#2. Optimize Your Resume For Applicant Tracking System

One of the things you should know before editing your CV is applicant tracking system. The applicant tracking system is a resume robot most companies use to weed out unqualified candidates during the initial hiring process.

This robot works by matching your CV with the job description and requirements. So, it is advisable to always optimize your resume so that it can make it through the applicant tracking system.

So, incorporate the right keywords, format it properly and make use of the right resume header.

#3. Include Soft Skills

There are certain skills that employers look for in any candidates. Some of these skills are; communication, problem-solving, teamwork etc. Ensure you include these skills, they sometimes give your CV an edge over others.

#4. Edit Your Resume For Different Jobs

One of the most important things you should know before editing your CV is that it is a continuous process. To put it differently, editing your resume is not a one-off task, it is what you must do continuously.

At all time, edit your resume according to the requirements of the job. This will increase your chances of getting the job.

#5. Try To Make Your Resume One Page

Try as much as possible to make your CV one page. Most hiring managers don’t have the luxury of time to read lengthy CV. Except you have over 5 years experience, your CV shouldn’t be more than a page.

#6. Don’t Mention The Obvious

The mistake most job seekers make when writing CV is that they always mention the obvious. It is assumed that as a graduate you should have an elementary knowledge of Excel, Microsoft words and a good command of English language.

However, it sounds repetitive and boring when you start telling recruiters all these skills that every graduate should have ordinarily.

#7. Always Be Consistent

Try to be consistent in your CV and pay attention to little details. Pay attention to your paragraph, bullet points, and headings.

Education / Re: Why Me? Why Today Of All Days? By Mobolaji Atolagbe by 24hoursreporter: 9:52am On Nov 26, 2018
Gratitude is everything!
Education / Why Me? Why Today Of All Days? By Mobolaji Atolagbe by 24hoursreporter: 9:52am On Nov 26, 2018
It was 5:30 a.m Tuesday morning and Richard was going to be late to work. Today of all days.

He woke a bit earlier to avoid the usual traffic build up but everything seemed to work against him. When he got to his car, the engine did not start. He was shocked because his mechanic just serviced the car 2 days ago. After about 5 minutes of fiddling with everything under the hood, the engine eventually spurred to life.

‘Thank God’ he muttered as he put the gear of his silver Honda Accord 2005 in reverse and made to drive out of the gate. He took a mental note to call his mechanic to properly adjust any loose bolts or nuts.

‘Oga!, Oga!!’ his security guard shouted as he had reversed out.

‘What again?’ he thought to himself as he slowed down to hear him out.

‘E be like say the back tire don flat. Your rim go spoil if you drive am like this o’ Yusuf said

‘God!! Why me? Why today of all days?’

Richard could not help but think that God had abandoned him on the day he needed him the most.

As the head of Sales of a fast growing company, Richard could not afford not to meet the set target. The month of November had been rather slow and with 10 days left, he and his team could only pray for a miracle to be able to hit the target. He had to pull all the stops and eventually got to schedule a sales pitch with a multi-national that he had been pursuing for a while. They generously offered to come to their office for 8 a.m. on Tuesday and now here he was going to be late for a meeting that took him 6 months to orchestrate.

‘Oya now, make we change am sharp sharp.’ He said to Yusuf as he stepped out of the car rolling his sleeves. He does not joke with having a good spare tire since he had once been stranded on Third Mainland Bridge at midnight without a spare.

About another 10 minutes passed. He and Yusuf were sweating but had changed the tire. That done, he began his journey to work. Trying to find the best route devoid of traffic, he turned on the map on his phone.

‘Oh God!’

Every route was blocked.

The only way he could get to work in time was to turn his car into a chopper and cruise over the thousands of Lagosians that he was certain will be cursing out at each other.

‘God!! Why me? Why today of all days?’

He had no choice but to join the queue of other rather slowly moving cars. He tuned to the traffic radio station and got the update that there was an accident about 20 minutes ago. After an hour and half of slow moving traffic, he got to the point of the accident.

A trailer trying to avoid the curfew set for 6a.m. was definitely over speeding and lost control. In a bid to avoid running into many cars, he swerved and climbed a car that stopped its movement. The truck completely crushed the boot and the back seats of the car leaving only the front section untouched. The scene looked like a snake swallowing it’s prey only to stop halfway. Only one of the three lanes was accessible to motorists.

Richard drove off once he was passed by the emergency services that were on the scene to sort out the challenges the accident created. He got to the office an hour late but Paul, his colleague, had already informed him that all the individuals scheduled for the meeting, both on his team and the multi-national, had not gotten to the office so Richard was less tense.

After making his cup of coffee and looking over his slides one more time, his team and the members of the invited coy walked into the conference room that had been set up. They were all caught in the same traffic jam.

Everything worked like magic from that point on or so it seemed.

He went through his pitch and answered all questions easily.

‘Thanks for the amazing pitch Richard’ said Sheila, the team lead of the multinational. ‘ I believe this is the solution to our current challenge. However, my line manager, Eric who will make the buying decision, travelled for a conference and will return in 3 weeks. Then, you’ll get our reply. Good day. ‘ immediately she said this, she and her team stood, shook hands with other members of Richard’s team and left.

Richard was speechless. ‘3 weeks?’ He thought to himself. 3 weeks was way too long and didn’t fit into his plans of hitting his sales target for November.

‘God! Why me? Why will the decision maker travel now of all times?’

The rest of the day went rather slowly and was uneventful.

Sitting in his couch at home, exhausted and watching the news rather uninterested, he sighed and said under his breath ‘Why me’

A voice then spoke to him: ‘This morning, when your car refused to start and the tire was flat, your car was meant to be involved in that accident but I needed you sharp for the presentation so I stalled you from getting on the road.’

I also planned Eric’s trip to coincide with your presentation for a simple reason you’ll soon find out. Have faith, never doubt me’

Richard woke suddenly.

He had dozed off thinking about the stress and strain of the day. He thought deeply about what he heard in his dream and said a thanksgiving prayer for all that happened.

It was at this exact point that the accident was shown on the news, the car crushed by the truck was also a 2005 Honda Accord model but matt black in color. There were no casualties and he was glad about that. He wondered if it was his car that was involved, he might have not been in the right frame of mind to make the perfect sales pitch.

While he was still thanking God, an email notification dropped on his phone. Apparently, Eric had gone to cut a deal at the conference he was attending. The multinational will need to purchase 3 times the initial quote and they were willing to sign the documents before the end of the week to get things started.

Richard was speechless and knelt in awe.

3 things you should never forget

1. God is very interested in every aspect of your life. He wants you to be successful in even the smallest section of your life.

2. Logic does not win all the time. Do all you can, work hard, talk to important people but never forget the place of the grace of God in your goals.

3. In all situations, be grateful and thankful. The attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude always opens doors.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

The Curse Of The Middle Class by Mobolaji Atolagbe

In every society, there is a social stratification system that might have been unconsciously or legally put in place. The popular categories are the lower class, middle class, and the upper class.

Let me break down the classes.
The upper class is 1% of the 1% of society. Most of them are old money and their surnames ring a bell.

The Folawuyo’s, Dantata family, The Adelekes, The…. you can include any family name that you have heard since you were little and still hear now when it comes to business and wealth.

These folks do not depend on salaries but have multiple investments in various sectors. It almost feels like the rise and fall of the economy does not affect them. In fact, it seems like they are the economy itself.

They live the life of luxury and are in the news for multi-billion dollar deals or an expensive event that the whole world except you was invited to (Here, think about Dangotes’ daughter’s wedding).

Then there are the people that are neither poor nor rich. These are the middle class.

They can afford the basic stuff: have a good rented apartment, one or 2 working vehicles, send their children to good schools within the country and they dress well. These group either work in companies that provide good salaries or they run modest businesses that need their daily attention.

They need to save before they can undertake any ‘major’ project. They save to buy a car, build their house or buy a luxury item. They do not have extra cash to splurge but they live a good life.

The middle class can be broken down to the upper middle class and the lower middle class. The distinction of the middle classes is not necessary for the sake of this article.

With the proper definition of the first two castes, I will not bore you with the explanation of the lower class. For the sake of proper identification in this article, just imagine the population beneath the middle class that struggles to survive on a daily basis for the very basic requirements.

“Desire and hunger are two great emotions that can be properly harnessed to achieve the impossible” — Mobolaji Atolagbe

With proper observation of the way things have worked in my environment, I have noticed 2 ‘truths’

Someone can move to any of the classes easily if there is enough drive, desire and preparation and vision. (Or lack of any of the 4)
Although it is difficult to move from any of the classes, It is easier for a member of the lower class to move up to be an upper-class citizen than for a middle-class person to make this move.
These two points spurred me to write this piece.

“You never change your life until you step out of your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.” ― Roy T. Bennett

The Lanky Genius without a Job By Mobolaji Atolagbe

Tunji is smart and did very well in school

There was no subject difficult for him and he taught his mates and even senior colleagues right from secondary school. Most people called him the lanky genius because he is very tall and his brains helped him to soar academically. He had a first class when he graduated from University and was awarded severally during the convocation ceremony.

That was 3 years ago.

After the mandatory youth corps service to his country, he sat home expecting calls from top companies to plea for him to come and work with them. His phone collected dust and yet no offer. After a while, he decided to call Samson, an average scholar when they were in university but had changed jobs 3 times since they graduated. Samson was very active on their ’2015 ULTIMATE KNIGHTS’ group on Whatsapp where he usually drops the latest news and available vacancies.

‘Samson Baba! How far now?’ Tunji spoke after Samson picked up.
‘ I dey o, Sir Lanky. The only genius in town. This one that you are calling me today. Is it that you want to ask me for a formula? You know say I no too sabi book like that’ Samson replied laughing.

‘Abegi, you say you no smart but you dey change job like underwear. What is your secret? Help this poor boy out with some connection.’ Tunji pleaded.

‘Hmmmm, Na God o. No, connect anywhere. It’s God just working his miracle in my life’. Samson replied still chuckling.

‘I am serious Samson, I just read your message on the group. How did you do it?

‘Well, I was very strategic about this new job but everything boiled down to faith.’

‘Faith?!’ Tunji retorted.

‘Yes, my brother, faith.’ Samson replied.

‘But I have faith too. I have faith that I’ll get a good job. In fact, not just a good job, a great job. However, reality has killed my faith.’ Tunji said sounding downcast.

‘Have you done anything about your faith?’ Samson asked.

‘How?’ Tunji replied like a typical Nigerian with a question.

‘Let me explain.’ Said Samson.
‘I attended a seminar sometime last month and really enjoyed what a particular speaker shared during his speech. From there, I knew I wanted to work with him.

I immediately began to research over the internet and found out that he headed a department in his organization. I chatted with 2 people working in the same department as him and got their views about how he works, and especially if there was an opening that I could apply for.

They were very friendly and open with their responses giving me hints and tips. A week after the seminar, I sent him a connection request on LinkedIn and told him how I enjoyed his speech.

I also shared with him a 5-page document that illustrated how I thought their department could work more efficiently. I got these points from the statements he made from the seminar and my research online.

He messaged me almost immediately asking me to swing by the office the next day at noon for a chat.

I was there on time and he ushered me in. The chat was not more than 20 minutes and it was an interesting banter back and forth. I was obviously over prepared and he loved that. He hired me on the spot asking me to sort myself with HR and I should let him know if there was any ‘challenge’ that will prevent me from joining his team.’

‘Wow!’ was the only thing that Tunji could mutter.

‘Sir Lanky, I almost did not believe it myself but when the HR personnel took me through the benefits of the package, I pinched myself. It had to be a dream. I’ll start there on Monday’ Samson concluded.

Tunji could not believe his ears, in the same country that he could not get a job, an average joe that he tutored more times that he can recall had changed jobs 3 times!

‘Very cool story Samson. ‘Tunji said, eventually finding his voice. ‘How can you help my faith reach your level? I need this really badly. You do not know how badly I need a change in my life.’

‘Well, you’ll have to work for it Sir Lanky.’ Let me send a few documents to your email. The docs will help you re-write your CV and LinkedIn profile.’

‘Please send it right now. Thanks, bro.’ Tunji said hanging up the call

BEEP!
An email notification dropped on his phone 10 minutes later. He rushed to put his phone in the only corner that Glo network reception was a bit faster so he could download the documents.

It was time to put his faith to work.

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?- James 2:14

3 KEY POINTS YOU SHOULD NEVER FORGET

1. Faith without works is dead. Action is very important to get what you want.

2. What got you to a point will not take you to the next level. You need to change your strategy.

3. Do not be afraid to ask for help. God will not come down from heaven to show you the way. He’ll use people in your environment.

Romance / 9 Things To Know When Meeting Your Partner’s Parents by 24hoursreporter: 11:50am On Nov 22, 2018
Meeting your partner’s parents is a major step in your relationship, thus creating a good first impression is something you must do. As intimidating as meeting your partner’s parents can be, you still need to comport yourself.

The first impression you create when dealing with your potential in-laws can be a lasting impression. So, as you are meeting your soulmate’s parents, below are some of the things you should know.

9 Things To Know When Meeting Your Partner’s Parents

#1. Reduce Public Display Of Affection

When you are visiting your partner’s parents for the first time, you need to reduce the public display of affection. You don’t need to kiss her in the presence of her parents to show that you love her.

Trust African parents, the way they will look at you will definitely send a message. So, be moderate in displaying your affection for your partner, when you are with his/her parents.

#2. Try Not To Be Drunk When You Are Meeting Them

No matter how addicted you are to alcohol, try to be clean when you are meeting your soulmate’s parents. Try to be in your right senses and stay away from anything that will intoxicate you including alcohol.

#3. Don’t Discuss Controversial Topics Like Sex, Politics or Religion

Discussing topics like sex, religion or politics can ruin everything in your Partner’s parents home. It is always better to stay off controversial topics to be on the safer side.

For instance, your Partner’s dad may be an ardent supporter of Buhari and the atmosphere will be tense if you pledge your support for Atiku in his house. You see why it is not advisable to discuss politics.

#4. Don’t Lie Or Exaggerate To Impress Them

One of the things to know when meeting your partners’ parents is not to lie or exaggerate to impress them. Be real and don’t be fake as the truth will always be exposed.

After all, when the wind blows, the anus of the hen will be open. So, be plain and allow them to accept you the way you are.

#5. Don’t Press Your Phone When You Are With Them

It is a sign of disrespect to be pressing your phones and chatting while meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. You can always press the pone later, but when you are with them, comport yourself.

#6. Don’t Tell Inappropriate, Sexually Or Religious Insensitive Jokes

You may want to sound funny and jovial but tell rational jokes. As a matter of fact, try to refrain from inappropriate, sexually or religious insensitive jokes. This may create a very wrong impression about you.

#7. Offer To Help Them With House Chores

Ladies, you really need to drop your slay queen behavior when you are with your man’s parents. In fact, you have to behave like a wife material and prove to them that you are the right person for their son.

Offer to assist with the cooking or help wash the dishes in the kitchen. Little gesture like this can create a lasting impression.

#8. Dress Smart

You need to look good and smart when you are meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. It goes a long way to say a lot about you. So, dress smartly as you will definitely be addressed the way you dressed.

#9. Don’t Be Completely Quiet

Try not to be bored; you can bring up an interesting conversation provided the topic is not controversial.

Romance / 9 Questions You Should Not Ask A Lady On A First Date by 24hoursreporter: 9:53am On Nov 21, 2018
The first date with a lady is usually nerve-wracking, especially for the nice guys who aren’t players. Most times, several questions pop up in your mind during the first date with a beautiful lady of your choice.

Well, try to keep some of your questions for another day and focus on a normal conversation. Before you start asking personal questions, there should be a level of closeness. Below are the questions you should not ask a lady on a first date.

5 Questions You Should Not Ask A Lady On A First Date

#1. ‘What Happened To Your Last Relationship’?

Asking this type of question on the first day will definitely make a Lady feel uncomfortable. Focus more a normal everyday conversation rather than an interrogation.

Once you start interrogating a lady on a first date, you will feel judged. Therefore, what you should focus on is establishing a connection with her. Once you have this connection, every other thing will play out naturally.

#2. ‘Why Are You Still Single’?

This is also among the 9 questions you should ask a lady on a first date. This question may be very innocent and well intended, but the lady may take it personally. Trust me, it could ruin the date.

#3. ‘How Many Men Have You Slept With’?

Well, asking a lady how many sexual partners they have slept with is not cool. However, you can listen if they decide to tell you their past love experience, but don’t ask them especially on the first date.

#4. What Do You Think Is The Future Of This Relationship?

This is another premature question you shouldn’t ask a lady. When the connection and flow is there, it is natural to keep seeing each other once the connection is established.

#5. How Much Money Do You Make?

It is not cool to be asking a lady how much she makes when you barely know her. This will send the wrong message that you are just after her money. However, if she decides to be open with this, you can listen to her attentively.

Jobs/Vacancies / 9 Words/phrases That Will Ruin Your Cover Letter by 24hoursreporter: 11:38pm On Nov 20, 2018
The Cover Letter is one of the most important documents a job applicant uses to market himself in the Labour Market. As a matter of fact, it helps to show you off and captivate the attention of a recruiter to your application.

According to expert, a cover letter is like a movie trailer that teases a recruiter to keep reading your resume. In fact, it will make any employer be so interested in you that they want to meet you in person.

Therefore, whenever you write a cover letter, you must pay attention to details and be very professional. A good cover letter will simply tell interesting and breathtaking stories about you.

The Cover letter is so important that you shouldn’t try to blow it off with little mistakes. In this article, we will show you the 9 words/phrases that will ruin your cover letter.

In fact, if you add any of these words/phrases in a cover letter, the letter will become counterproductive. So, read the tips below carefully and start rewriting your cover letter right away.

9 Words/Phrases That Will Ruin Your Cover Letter

#1. To Whom It May Concern

One of the words/ phrases that will ruin your cover letter is “To Whom It May Concern”. This phrase is too generic and it may not really capture the recruiter’s attention.

It is advisable to do further research before applying for the job. You can use LinkedIn to search for the recruiter of the company you are applying to.

However, when you can’t get the exact name of the recruiter, you can be creative and come up with another unique and less popular phrase. This will always grab the recruiter’s attention.

#2. “Thinking Outside The Box”

I am sure you know that recruiters receive countless cover letters daily. The most annoying part of this is that most of the cover letters have similar style and formats.

According to a Recruiter we spoke with recently, 14 out of every 15 cover letters have the phrase “Thinking outside the box”. To recruiters, this is so boring and annoying.

Whenever a recruiter sees a cover letter that is so fertile, promising with fewer buzzwords and boring phrases, they give it extra time. So, be creative with words and phrase whenever you are writing a cover letter.

#3. Insider Jargons

Insider jargons are also some of the words/phrases that will ruin your cover letter. Try to use professional words rather than jargons. Use phrases that will not stress your recruiter to understand.

#4. Claims Without Evidence

Many applicants claim to have experience in the role they are applying for. Sadly, they never provide evidence to back their claim. This can ruin your cover letter and make recruiters doubt the credibility of your story.

#5. “Love”

Love is another word applicants often use that can ruin their cover letter. Job seekers are fond of quoting statement like “I would really love to work in your company when given the opportunity”.

Instead of using the above statement, let the recruiter know that you are passionate about the job and how your passion for the role can affect your productivity positively.

#6. Lies

Telling Lies in your cover letter is something you should never do. As you will always let down the recruiter who hire you in future based on the lies on your cover letter.

Never talk about skills you don’t have or oversell yourself for a role you don’t have experience about. Telling lies in your cover letter will always create awkward situations in the future. In fact, you may even lose the job as you aren’t the candidate they were looking for.

#7. “Dynamic”

Dynamic is among the words/phrases that will ruin your cover letter. Don’t stuff your cover letter with common words like dynamic. Try to be more creative with words.

#8. Copy and Paste Your Details

Some job applicants basically duplicate what all the details on CV in their cover letter. This is actually a wrong practice that can ruin your cover letter.

Try to write details about you that aren’t reflected in your resume. This will make the cover letter more interesting to recruiters.

#9. “Self Starter”, “Detail Oriented” and “Forward Thinker”

These are also among the words/phrases that will ruin your cover letter. Experts call these words, “Frequent Offenders”. They are overused by applicants and have lost their values.

So, try to connect with recruiters in your cover letter rather than mere formality. You can say things that make you excited about the job, some of your recent activities that may interest the recruiters etc.
