[b][/b]Before you read this, i'll want you to know that this post is not targeted at any particular religion, sect or belief. I write this as a human with so much grief in my heart.


WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF RELIGION?

In the midst of all the violence in the world at the moment, especially Nigeria, i've come to understand that humans have become wild animals who can no longer tolerate each other. And this begs one sad question...

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF RELIGION?

What really does religion teach?

Love or hate? If someone doesn't share your faith it's easy to tag him/her "unbeliever" or "infidel" is that really what religion is about?

PEACE OR WAR? It's good to defend your self when attacked as i strongly believe every human has a right to life. But what do we know about the religious killings and bombings around the world just because the killed don't share same faith with you OR the fact that religious leaders and rulers used wars as the machine to spread their "gospel" in the name of "crusade" in times past. Forcing people to believe the message they preach or die. Like it's some bitter pill.

Unity or division? If religion teaches us to be united with every one why then can't i have a friend who doesn't share my faith or get married to someone who isn't my tribe and doesn't share my faith. If religion was for unity why did the tower of babel have to fall?

Morality or immorality? This single issue is one that gets me all confused about everything. You remember the story about sodom and gomorrah? Can you remember what happened to those people? Well it's disheartening to know that there's a gay lobby in the vatican! There are homosexual marriages in CHURCHES around the globe And we preach morality in church. OR the fact that a full grown man can choose to take a lass yet to be weaned by her mother for marriage. All in the name of religion.

HARDWORK OR FOOLISH RELIANCE? I've heard stories of people who gave their all to GOD and get blessed for doing so and i've seen lots of people give and yet nothing changes. Are we to give all and go back to bed hoping and trusting that our "story will change" or are we to strategically think and work at making our story change. "Nothing changes until the mind is changed".(Ponzy and network marketing schemes are even advertised in church)

Does religion teach us to get schooled or get educated? The best schools in my country have some sort me religious affiliations. Don't get me wrong i do not mean that is a bad thing to do I just wonder what we are being taught in school these days... You read, study, cram and write exams based on some dead men/women's ideas and we keep going over this process yet no school teaches self evaluation. No school teaches self knowledge. No school teaches self discovery which is the real core of education. They say they teach us to read and write but we can't really write our own stories because we continuously see, hear and read the stories religion has taught us through school.
These things and more bother my mind daily but then i'm just one small piece of history waiting to be read. So I say that fighting and killing for the sake of religion is stupidity if the gods you fight for don't take up arms themselves.
Finally i say without any iota of fear or remorse that religion has done more harm than good to the humanity in us. Why? How? I think we've got the wrong idea of what religion really is, or, the whole idea of religion is a scam.

I had a lovely relationship with someone I loved very much and who I felt loved me in return. Along the way in our relationship we had some misunderstandings that we were too young to handle.
