And people don't get the processing times wrong for study permit. The one that's says 20sumthng or 30sumthng days is for processing from within Canada not from outside. Meaning for processing of applications that were submitted by someone already in Canada.
Navigate through the site well and you will see that it still mentions 18weeks processing time for Applicants applying from nigeria.

I got an admission for advanced diploma in Canada so I want to go to Ghana to apply for the student permit considering the fact that it doesn't take too long and applying now in Nigeria might be too late for September entry and I don't want to defer. I checked the CIC website and found out Ghana doesn't serve Nigeria for study permit but it also said one can apply there as long as one can proof one's legal entry into Ghana. so I got really confused and I will like to know if anyone as applied there before? Please help, I need replies ASAP. Thanks

Oh! I studied management info systems at undergrad level in naija but the masters program is under the business school so from all indication it's out of it I guess.

bigfrancis21: With the current immigration system that is about to be overhauled, the modus operandi of most students after study is to quickly look for companies to hire them and file for work visas (H1B) for them. These visas are temporary and usually lasts for 6 years. Normally there's what they call OPT training. OPT training is sort of an internship program instituted for international students who wish to work in the US after study and gain rich, practical and exposed US work experience which when added to the CV gives you an edge in the job market in your home country. It lasts for 23 months or so. What many students do is to quickly apply for OPT to continue to remain legally in-status while also utilizing this ample time to get a company to hire them and file for them in case they are unable to get work immediately after graduation and before their specified length of study stay expires. After your company must have filed for you and you start work, you can now begin your green card application process. You gotta start early to ensure that it pulls through within your 6 valid work years.
The H1B visas are for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) graduates. That is for graduates of US universities who read STEM courses in school.

However, this is obtainable in current immigration system which has been noted as ineffective and plans are on the way to overhaul it and get it replaced with another better and effective immigration system.

Mine is a masters program in innovation and technological entrepreneurship at the university of mass. that's a STEM program right?

hayek: Are there fellow forumites who have used online application and received call for medical? I used the online application platform on May 2nd, 2013. I used the online thing because it is quite straight forward and not complex like the paper application. I have not heard received any message so far although the duration for visa process is 4-6 months. I n case there has been anyone who used online application and has gotten medicals, please share your story with others. I am going for MA and I an self-sponsored ( I have about $35K in my account) and my workplace wrote to the effect they are supportive of my studies and that I would continue to be in their pay roll even while studying.

Chairman calm down! U avnt even spent 3weeks yet not to talk of 2months. I submitted on April 26th online method as well. It takes about 6-8 weeks I suppose

accra2005: sorry for the late response. i paid through travelex payment option which was recommended by Seneca college as a means of payment for international student. it very easy to go by. just check your admission guideline document sent with your acceptance letter to you to know the steps involved.But, more importantly you need a dom account to transfer your payment to Senecal college account.

Did you have to stamp your, invoice that the school gave you? And what scanned documents did you send to the school?
Because I used a normal bank wire transfer via a Dom account. Payed in dollars sha. Then I ave the form I filled for the payment and the transfer paper stuff.

Use the normal hard copy means and send via post. Do not use the ontariocolleges stuff. That's for them canadian guys der

Siga: ...of cos why not....just make sure u get close to ur profs at Seneca...most of them have friends as Coordinators for Masters programs in the field...so, they can recommend u...and with ur PGD, u stand a better chance...ensure u come out with excellent grades...

1. Some people go for other programs that they can use to extend their stay....
2. If u have prior work experience from Naija or anywhere u applying from, which is within the last 5yrs u are applying for PR...u can use that...I used mine as well....
3.That one na wrong info bro...Ontario has Provincial Nominee prog as well...I believe that is wat he is referring to...the number of apps accepted maybe more in other provinces than Ontario ...cos last yr...Ontario only accepted 1000 applicants...so...chances are bigger in other Province than Ontario...Ontario is pretty much has biggest population

Just google them. And surely you would get a format. Sorry I deleted mine off my iPad yestdy else wud have given you. But actually there isn't a particular format to writing these things just let the letters be formal and be convincing in your statements.

Siga: ....Bro...not all schools accept deferal oooo....some will ask u to reapply....have one on my neck now...Humber College (PGD Human Resource Mgt)....I couldnt help defer....she was asked to reapply...so...not all schools....best bet is to ask ur school before u apply....

Most schools advice you let the embassy give the go ahead first so as to avoid having to request a refund of your fees in the case of visa rejection. At the same time it can show financial strength when submitting you application but you might also be shooting yourself in the foot by taking this action of oversabi and I too know. So baba just chill embassy go yan wen to pay.
