The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, the umbrella body of Islamic groups in Nigeria, has declared that the month of Dhul Hajj begins today (Monday) which means Eid-el-Kabir Sallah would be observed on Wednesday, September 23.
The JNI, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, stated this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement signed by its secretary general, Khalid Aliyu, said the Sultan and the JNI “felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah over the successful commencement of Dhul-Hajj today Monday 14th September, 2015. This is indeed gratifying as Wednesday 23rd September 2015 will mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, In-Shaa-Allah”.
The JNI implored Muslims who can, to fast for the first nine days of the month, especially on the Arafat day, as recommended by the Prophet Muhammad, for non-pilgrims.
“We should also seek Allah’s forgiveness, glorify and extol Him more. This is so because of the special virtues of the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and the immense benefits therein,” the statement said.
The JNI also lamented Thursday’s kidnap of the Chief Imam of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Sheikh Adam Idoko.
It said the Imam is a famous Muslim leader in the South East, who also serves as the Vice President-General, JNI Enugu State chapter.
“Indeed this ugly incident is strongly condemned by the JNI. Hence, the JNI appeals to the government and security agencies at all levels to do everything humanly possible to rescue the distinguished Muslim Scholar, hale and hearty, from the hands of the criminals,” it said.
The JNI paid tribute to the pilgrims who died in the Grand Mosque in Mecca on Friday, due to the collapse of a crane.
“This is indeed a great tragedy to the Muslim Ummah specifically and the entire world generally.
“This is a pointer to us that death is inevitable. Therefore, we should be conscious of our actions and inactions, because death may descend anywhere, anytime. Therefore we must remain righteous, so that we may be hopeful of Allah’s forgiveness.
“We therefore, pray that Allah’s Maghfirah and Rahmah will be with those who lost their lives in the tragedy, we also wish their families and the entire Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear the loss. For the injured and the traumatized, we pray for quick recovery and mental stability.
“More so, we commiserate with the Saudi authorities especially the custodian of the two holy Mosques at this moment of grief over this tragic event. We pray Allah to continue to give them the strength and will to continue taking care of the two holy Mosques.
“We sincerely pray for our Muslim brethren who are currently observing this year’s pilgrimage in the Holy land to have a hitch-free Hajj and wish them safe return back to their countries and re-union with their respective families,” JNI said.

please this is off topic but help me if you can I'm using Tecno L6 and whenever I'm going to use a third party app like pisiphon or mtk device you know there would be message that would show up asking you whether you trust the app and if you trust it there would be a box where you will tick before the OK button show up, but the problem with my phone is I can't tick the box until I restore the factory settings and I do so it would work perfectly but when I switched off the phone the problem will be back again. The father of a three-year-old boy whose drowning off Turkey shocked the world buried his son, another child and his wife in an emotional funeral Friday in Syria’s Kobane, a witness said.
“Aylan Shenu, his brother, and his mother were buried today in Kobane in front of a large crowd. Everyone was very sad and crying,” said local journalist Mustefa Ebdi, who attended the funeral service.
According to Ebdi, the three Syrian Kurds, who had tried to reach Greece by boat from Turkey, were buried in Kobane’s Martyrs Cemetery.

Three-year-old Aylan, four-year-old Ghaleb and their mother Rihana drowned off the Turkish coast on Wednesday while trying to reach Europe across the Aegean Sea.
The father, Abdullah Kurdi, survived, and “looked broken and numb” as he addressed a gathering of hundreds, Ebdi said.
“I don’t blame anyone else for this. I just blame myself,” Abdullah told the mourners.
“I will have to pay the price for this the rest of my life,” said the devastated father.
He said his children were only a few of the many victims of Syria’s four-year conflict and pleaded for a “solution to the tragedies” gripping his country.
Ebdi said he told Abdullah “the world is standing with you” but the grief-stricken father said there he had nothing left in the world to live for.
“What do I want with the world. I’ve paid the highest price,” Ebdi quoted Abdullah as saying.
Abdullah arrived earlier in the day to the family’s ancestral home of Kobane from Turkey.
A car carrying him and the three caskets entered the mainly Kurdish town where mourners had gathered for the funeral.

Kobane was the scene of fierce fighting between Kurdish militias and Islamic State group jihadists for control of northern Syria in the country’s civil war.
Kurdish forces ousted IS fighters from the town after a months-long struggle in January.
Abdullah’s family was displaced several times inside Syria and had returned to Kobane in June but IS fighters re-entered the town holding hostages in several buildings in a two-day stand-off that left more than 200 civilians dead.
The family then decided to try to reach Europe from Turkey, Ebdi said.
Turkish media had identified the family’s surname as Kurdi, a possible reference to their ethnic background, but Ebdi said the actual family name was Shenu.
