The capital usually offer older houses which might not be at par with that offered by newly developed areas. That aside the exact part of the capital plays a major part in the pricing in terms of amenities, traffic etc

Standard 1 bedroom apartment starts from 450k, that area is elitist in their pricing if you can afford it.

If you didn't put on "Find my phone" option in your Mi Cloud settings on the phone then there's no way to disable the phone from your PC.
I guess the fingerprint security is the only thing that can prevent the thief from accessing your phone, that's if he can't bypass it.
Just have it reported at the police station in case it's recovered.

You most likely would not find the app on the Nigerian play store. Just download from Google from an authentic source & sideload it i.e. install the downloaded apk file

I have the MI cloud account on it . With my username and password . But anytime I input a new sim , it doesn't stop me from using it , I only swipe the notifications away if it ask me to activate the new sim for mi account .

Mi Cloud is not designed to prevent another SIM from being used on the phone. But it can be used to lock the phone, erase its content or track the location of the phone.

Login into your Mi account on a PC then you can lock as well as send a message to the thief on how to return it. Once you've activated the "Find my phone" feature on the PC the criminal can't flash or have access to the phone.

But all these are only possible if you logged in your Mi account on the phone & it's data is turned on.

It can but the frustration you'll get from either EFCC or Nigerian police (not like they're different anyway) will be far more than the actual crime. The banks too are usually slow and will keep stalling like you're bugging them.

For the EFCC, You'll be asked to open "file" of which cost shall depend on what you've lost & your net worth.
You'll pay to get documents e.g. affidavit, warrants etc at ridiculous costs, Virtually every move they make will be financed by you

Guy, just pray you'll never experience such theft in order not to use their services

See that's why I said the financial crimes enforcement agencies EFCC, ICPC are overwhelmed or just don't want to do their jobs. Since every account is now tied to a BVN owned by a walk-in customer then getting a warrant to flag the recipient's account, tracking and getting the person arrested shouldn't be as hard as rocket science.

But then the EFCC is just an extension of the Nigerian police which speaks volumes on their level of efficiency and professionalism in carrying out simple tasks.

I actually achieved it on my first bank account. The sim linked to the account has no USSD service after I went to them to apply for deactivation. Now if you type in any USSD related activity, the network will tell you that the sim card is not linked to any first bank account, meanwhile its the same sim I use in getting OTP from first bank even up till today..


UPDATE.

I just tried the *894* code on my sim and saw this. Not sure if they have activated it again.

My broda, we Nigerians generally have a lackadaisical approach towards issues be it safety, security, emergency etc (No offence). The banks are not exempted since they're operated by Nigerians too.

A wise man once said "If you truly want something done, better do it yourself". I've heard complaints of people repeatedly visiting banking halls to have this USSD rubbish disabled, yet nothing!

Yeah that was why I advised blocking his accounts right way, when my Poco was stolen last November I took it for granted that the thieves wanted the phone alone and I got to the bank by 8am asking them to block my account. Long story short, since I didn't have any access to the internet, I got to the office only to see mail debit alerts. The thieves somehow found a way to use my registered SIM to initiate a fresh USSD on my line and withdrew #100k which was the daily limit. If there was no limit, am sure I would still be in the hospital right now if they had withdrawn all the money in my account. It was an eye opener,big one and before anyone ask ,no I don't have my account number or ATM card details on my phone (they can't even access that since my phone is locked with pattern). They used just the SIM.

Really worrying stuff. One needs to be more proactive these days since the financial crimes enforcement agencies seem overwhelmed.

Why didn't you activate the mi cloud when the option was just there?

Snapdragon chipset doesn't allow for easy change of IMEI number and most engineers don't have the resources to go thru the rigorous process.

Sorry for your loss, please call your banks so they can block your accounts with them because the thief might not even need your phone but your registered SIM. That's the most important and first thing to do right away, as to retrieve the phone I really dunno maybe others can help.

These days we're more preoccupied with just locking our phones rather than the SIMs as well which is now the new target.

This is why I now advice people to enable SIM lock on their main lines. Any switching off & on of the device or swapping of SIM must require a PIN code.

Remember when PIN code and PUK was popular?

I don't use any. I try as much as possible to avoid storing files on my phone. If I need to, I store on my laptop. Only trivial files I store in the cloud - Google Drive or Dropbox

Cloud storage remains the best for now. Laptop and external storage can crash or get stolen like I experienced late last year. Lost over 10 years worth of academic & media files

I've been in a similar situation, paid for an apartment and shortly after, was posted to a different location at work. Liased with the landlord and agent. The agent got another tenant who refunded me (ofcos, all of this was done at the landlords) . I hadn't moved in at the time, so no properties

So how does your account compare to what he wrote?
Or did he tell you it's in liaison with the landlord yet he's talking about collecting rent, agent and commission fees?
