Do most of your domains have related domains when you pick them or do you consider that as a criterion for selections?

LOL! I know you're already a boss. But let me drop this for newbies because the majority will be asking the same question especially if they think grace is not smiling at them at all even with all the efforts in outbound marketing.

A good domain name that sells for a high price must possess 2 to 3 of these attributes:

1. It must have a strong business idea behind it. I can't emphasize this enough.
2. It must be short. Less than 12 letters in the domain are better but less than 10 is the best.
3. It must be brandable and catchy.
4. It must have a maximum of two (2) English words and it must follow the rule of concord in English.
5. Acronym related to a commercial or viable business idea is awesome too.

ExpiredDomains.net, auctions, backorder services, etc are good sources to get these names. Even if you can only get 1 or 2 domain names in a month to increase your portfolio, you'll still be fine instead of going on the domain registration spree and looking for who to liquidate it when renewal jingles start ringing.

For example, if you only have 30 domain names that are good to premium and you renew them for 3 years, that will cause you an average of $900 (i.e. about $300 per year), right. Now if you only sell one out of them for $3,500 like @ICauseTrouble, you'll make about $1,854 clear profits after wire transfer fees are taken out.

Beginners must treat domaining as a business even if you're doing it part time. Invest in yourself to gain knowledge. Knowledge is power. Many years ago, I started my online business and in my first month I earned money that is more than 5 of my co employees at management level. I'm talking of a blue chip company now.

When you ask beginners to read from page 1, they think you're punishing them. Even me, once in a while, I go through the thread from page one to learn one or two things I missed in my previous reading. In our secondary school days then, we (i.e. a group of reading aficionados) used to read Hadley Chase novels. And you see us reading one particular novel several times to learn something new.

But when getting a domain name, always avoid trademarks. When you're in trouble and running around for solution, people may think it is Yahoo Yahoo you get involved with. So, eat your money with peace of mind!

Yup... that is if they do not ask for extra info. I have not tried it. If they allow you use the bank account on those platform because I use Epik for most of my sales, then you can go ahead without using dom.

No, you can't do that. At least to the best of my knowledge. What I would suggest is to possibly change your bank account at Afternic to Grey.co US bank account. You can withdraw the funds directly to your Nigerian bank account at 588/$ exchange rate. which is far better than what you will sell your dom dollar.

Not really a big deal coming from Akwaibom. This is a state that gets ten times federal allocation than a state like Ebonyi yet, Ebonyi state government are doing great, even if not greater. Balyelsa, Delta are worst . I think Akwaibom is trying but not really great with respect of what they are getting. Despite all the wealth of such states like Akwaibom, Anambra will still be ahead of them in every indices of development. I personally like Akwaibom state and her people.

Learn to make your points next time without making it seems like a competition. Akwa Ibom is doing better in terms of road constructions.... I don't think any state in Nigeria comes close.

One thing I have noticed about Akwa Ibom is their focus on road constructions. They are have been busy, from Akpabio to Udom, connecting their cities and villages and the roads are of HIGH STANDARDS... They are not stopping and this includes inner villages too.

IF they can fix their unemployment and making Akwa Ibom industrialize, trust me, a lot of people will leave Lagos for Akwa Ibom. I love that state!

Big boss, the main reason for turning privacy on is to protect someone's identity. If you are less concerned about your identity and personal info being in the public space, you can turn off the privacy on such domains. I strongly believe some of those searching whois for those names are interested buyers who may like to reach out to you.
Personally, not using privacy has done more good than harm and has led to more direct sales for me despite using my real identity as a Nigerian.

It's better to unlock privacy for names you ain't outbounding for.

If I have my way, I am going to turn off privacy on all my domain name. A couple of buyers have contacted me directly through my information gotten from whois. Some we agreed on the price, others, I didn't take their offer.
Most of the time when buyers contact me through whois, my strategy is to give them discount which will equate to the marketplace commission if the domain had sold on the marketplace.
The last guy that contacted me, I gave him a 20% off which should have been the commission if the domain got sold on afternic because he wanted to buy from godaddy.
He trusted me enough and he paid me directly in B. TC. I released the domain to him after receiving the payment in my wallet.
It is a win-win for both parties because I still have the normal amount I would have gotten if the domain got sold via godaddy / Afternic.
This whois protection thing is just a personal thing and it shouldn't be taken as a general rule. Maybe When I start investing in super-premium names, I would want to turn on the whois atleast for security purpose and to conceal my identity. But with the caliber of names I have now, I am comfortable without privacy protection

With Epik, I see some of my domains having up to 9, 12, 11, 6 whois lookups... would you advice that I remove privacy from my whois contact so that those searchers can see my contact and reach out to me?

The web guy sent me a few mails asking for more information which I provided and he seemed satisfied.

From day 1, day 2 week 1, week 2, week 3... No show.
I kept bombarding this dude with emails and calls. He kept saying "don't worry, I will get it done before the end of today"

Well fast forward to the Monday the domain got sold, and I picked up my phone and called this guy again, "Wa, Alaye, if you don't press buy now on my domain, I will not drop this call o... My blood is hoting"
The dude apologized and promised to make the purchase at exactly 8 pm Florida time(1 am Nigerian time).
And well, true to his word, I received a Congratulatory message from Dan.
Phew!!! Thank God.

I keep telling everyone i come across that epik is the best registrar, i have less name on other registrars because all my registrations, recently like 80% of my domain names are on Epik, and i use their marketplace for their domains. Because its easy and straight forward.

Maybe I should consider renewing some of my GEOS . Got afternic transfer assurance for a Geo I no longer own. Sold for $499. If you have the power and believe in that domain, continue renewing it. Getting it sold is a matter of time.
