Yeah i do that too but its not all of them that i get that way . i wish i could have some site where their websites are all listed .Its clear that several of the quoted companies do not actually have websites, i think the NSE should make this mandatory .

Here is something else that i think might be of some use to investors , below are the details of the new fees structures for buying and selling on the secondary market ;

Please if there is, kindly, help me with their names.

I don't think any company does.

A friend of my MD? nice to meet you! i apologize for my inconsistency in this forum.Back to the lad that gave you poor service, i honestly dont dispute that it could happen but i really want to know when exactly that happened, 2 years?3 years? anyways my point is that we can only try to get better and i am convinced that we are getting better, we might not be there yet but you can be rest assured that being grouchy to a client is an issue of the past cos we understand who they are and how they should be treated, no matter how annoying they might be.To be very candid, i think you should have escalated the case, how do u think this issues would be addressed if noone is aware of it in the company?
I am sure you have gone for years with a wrong impression about a whole company because of "Mr. Grumpy",
I personally think its unfair the way you quietly worked away.Cash craft seems to look juicy to you and i am not going to try to convince you otherwise but i have just one thing to say and that is you have a relationship with greenwich and your issues could have been easily addressed especially becos you already have a relationship.Anyways i guess you know best.

@Nimshi, as regards not anwering to enquiries, we have three main addresses; greenwich@greenwich-trust.com, info@greenwich-trust.com and enquiries@greenwich-trust.com, these mails are automatically forwarded to the officer in charge, and trust me, there are a whole lot of them.I am sure there was a mix up somewhere and i apologize. However, I think it is better to call the office and demand for a staff's email.You could try mine and put me to the test, ope@greenwich-trust.com.

Finally to all the agrieved investors, when you are treated badly by a staff, dont walk away, take it to the next level and report the case to a superior officer before you make your final impression about a house.

This is an interesting forum.

I will love to invest in stock but that will be in the nearest future. But before i do that i want to know if we have "call" and "put" stock in the
nigerian stock exchange market so that one can make profit whether the stock price goes up or down (fall or rise). This stocks are high risk
stock but there dividend are usually high.

I want to invest big in stock.

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Obamedo: 10:17am On May 27, 2007
@Tmoni
I think uboy is talking about trading futures and options on shares listed on the NSE
To the best of my knowledge we do not have such a platform in Nigeria

@those who don't know
Futures or options trading is the practice of buying and selling the right to buy shares or commodities (usually) at a given rate in the future, hence the name futures
Its a way of speculating on the market, you can make (and also,lose) a lot of money without putting down the initial capital outlay to invest

ie I can buy the right to purchase 10,000 units of FBN stock at N42 for 3 months
Lets say i buy the option at 10 kobo per share ie 10,000 units @N0.10 = N1000
If the price rises to N55 I can now sell the options to someone for lets say N1 per share
making me a profit of N1 x 10,000= N10,000

The person who buys the options can then go on to buy 10,000 of FBN at N42 even though the prevailing price is N55
You can work out the rest of the maths

On the otherhand if the price falls to N35, i will not want to exercise my option because i will lose money if i buy at N42 so my N1000 is as good as gone

Note that to buy 10,000 units of FBN myself at N42 will cost me N420,000 and if i sell at N55 i will make a profit of N550,000 - N420,000= N130,000

So if you don't have N420,000 but you are willing to gamble N1000 you can make a profit

Hope this helps

it sounds like shorting, which is buying at a high price and selling it low,

I saw in the Firstbank prospectus that technical suspension would be lifted on existing shares on 5th of july 2007, does this mean that those who already have existing shares of first bank may start trading their shares from that date ? i ask because i already have some firstbank shares , but don't like the time it takes for them to send the certificates for the public offers ( heard the e-allotment might be faster )
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by easimoni(m): 10:34pm On May 27, 2007
@ egoldman,
You are correct. Anyone who already owns shares (or by some miracle gets his certificate by that date) is free to sell. You don't even have to wait for that date. The wait for certificates is what precludes me from buying public offers. Let's hope the e-whatever makes things better.

BTW, do you know what your broker charges for transactions? Mine appears to be charging a lot more than the 2.23% in your previous post. I might have to threaten to move my account.

The new fees from my screenshot would take effect from the 1st of june according to SEC , if your broker charges u anything above the current fees as seen on the screenshot , then u need to ask them why .
meanwhile i would like to talk to you about some stuff if you dont mind , u may contact me denchuks@gmail.com same id also for yahoo messenger .

A friend of my MD? nice to meet you! i apologize for my inconsistency in this forum.Back to the lad that gave you poor service, i honestly don't dispute that it could happen but i really want to know when exactly that happened, 2 years?3 years? anyways my point is that we can only try to get better and i am convinced that we are getting better, we might not be there yet but you can be rest assured that being grouchy to a client is an issue of the past because we understand who they are and how they should be treated, no matter how annoying they might be.To be very candid, i think you should have escalated the case, how do u think this issues would be addressed if noone is aware of it in the company?
I am sure you have gone for years with a wrong impression about a whole company because of "Mr. Grumpy",
I personally think its unfair the way you quietly worked away.Cash craft seems to look juicy to you and i am not going to try to convince you otherwise but i have just one thing to say and that is you have a relationship with greenwich and your issues could have been easily addressed especially because you already have a relationship.Anyways i guess you know best.

Finally to all the agrieved investors, when you are treated badly by a staff, don't walk away, take it to the next level and report the case to a superior officer before you make your final impression about a house.

@Cupcake
Not trying to bash you or anything - i would just put it as it is. After, reading some of your posts, i found you very credible and know your stuff. I got in touch with you early January and i found you slow to respond and when you did respond the charges were exorbitant, and even my last email, i got no response.
I wasn't surprised what the other fellow in this blog said about your company - an organization behaviour or culture cannot be changed over night, it is probably an element in your process or ways of handling potential customers.
I engaged Afrinvest - which i found very professional, but did not end up opening with them as i preferred the other offers and charges of Zenith Securities.
If i am to make any recommendations, i would definitely recommend Afrinvest before talking about Greenwich.
And a piece of advice to everyone, call around - make your research. It is your money, your fortune, and you should be putting it where you would get the best advice, good customer service and grow your bottomline.

BTW - Zenith minimum is now 5M, i was shocked as i was trying to introduce a friend, I think they are trying to focus on the high end with good professional service.
@Frank - I say you and Windywendy should open a Stockbroking firm, all of us would jump boat :-)

I second that. I'm sick of Lead Securities. Worst brokers in the world.

BIGBOYLARY:

@ ALL,

THE NEWS IN TOWN NOW IS FIRST BANK I.P.O BUT ON this tread i will like us to be on the look out 4 these following stocks that will hit the market soon please safe money ti invest in these stocks i GUARANTY 500% returns let me assure u that we have the capability in these house to surpase anyblocks with indepth info, of these stocks coming to the market soon:
GUARANTY BANK
ACCESS BANK
COSTAIN WEST AFRICA
OBAJANA, cool cool cool

500% gain for all these stocks? Too ambitious.

COSTAIN is overpriced. The only factor pushing the price is that investors started a massive rush for this stock once it became public that COSTAIN UK had acquired a substantive stake in the company. Look at the volume being traded on a daily basis; tens of thousands of shares daily.

When you have millions chasing this number of shares, what happens? Simple demand and supply comes to play. COSTAIN has been posting losses for some years now, although that of last year is less, signifying that the company is on the road to recovery.

This stock will soon correct itself once profit taking starts.

GUARANTY is a bank with strong fundamentals. They will soon be coming public. Combine this with the bonus shares and you will have a surplus of shares in the market. This is not the year to expect radical price increases for this stock. Increases will be slow and steady.

ACCESS
This is the stock to really gun for. The 3rd quarter earnings has surpassed that of the whole of the last fiscal year. This will translate into their best earnings per share ever and a likelihood of bonus or dividend payment this year. In a market where share prices surge on rumuors of bonus and dividends, this is the stock to make some good money from this year.

OBAJANA
How do I summarise this stock? WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER. Let those with tongues count the teeth in their mouths. tongue
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Tmoni(m): 5:37pm On May 28, 2007
that means, i could still make some more stash on Access,
if GTB starts going up in prelude to the offer, then i think it is advisable to sell and buy during the offer

@cheexy, we on the same page now
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Tmoni(m): 5:51pm On May 28, 2007
pls who knows if oceanic bank accepted all the buyers and did nt bounce some people as dangote did to us, as in if u buy over a certain amount of stock
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by bash249(m): 9:30pm On May 28, 2007
Oceanic shareholders during the public offer approved absoption of over subsription. I dont think that return money in the case of Dangote would not happen

@Vitastraka,
In my opinion, Dangote Flour mills may not be as fantastic as Dangote sugar cos it doesn't have the luxury of being a monopoly in the sector. It also has NN flour mills and flour mills of nigeria competing with it for the market share. However with good marketing, a very competitive price and sentiments, the stock may perform as well as Dangote sugar.

@all,
Pls can someone tell me if he or she has been able to buy skye bank shares recently, my stockbroker has started with the "not available" story again.

Savvylanre and others

I'm an investor based out of Nigeria with mandatory 5 mil. Trying to decide between IBTC stockbrokers, Zenithsecuites, Cashcraft and Intercontinental securities. Does anyone have any strong recommendations? The stock broker must have a very strong customer service and online presence. Please e- mail me with your thoughts tbanjoko@hotmail.com.
thanks.

how true is this, diamond bank has a type of an account called disa whereby the amount of money you deposit in your account for a period of 1 year will yield interest of 50%, that means if you have 1 million in there, exactly 1 year, you will be having 1.5million, how true is that?

Cheexy,

Skye Bank shares are too hot in the market now and are not available.

There are some things you need to know.

Shares are not warehoused. For shares to be available, you have to have people who are willing to sell.

Once no one is willing to sell, the stock is unavailable. Of course, when an investor sees that his stock has great potential for capital appreciation, what reason does he have to sell? ABSOLUTELY NONE!

That is why you need an analyst to tell you when to get into a stock in good time before the institutional investors come and clear it all up on the floor.

If you wait for the results (quarterly or full year) of a company to be released before you decide to enter a stock, then you are too late! tongue

Good stock analysts can read the handwriting on the wall WELL AHEAD OF TIME so as to better advice on a stock pick. In essence, you have to make hay while the sun shines.

Cheers.
