We were created in God's image and likeness according to the book of Genesis. Means God created us to be like him loving, kind, peaceful, merciful, patient according to Galatians 5: 22-23 (the fruits of the spirit). Therefore we are to have all these attributes which qualify us to be like him.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Gen 1:27.
