sweet heart, if you see the stories on nairaland well, you'll agree that furthering your education doesn't guarantee you anything in this country. I'm a graduate myself and I'm telling you I've got my eyes set on getting out of the country for a while now. see, as far as you can hustle legit(and you've shown that you can) you go make am! I know of a few friends in very recent times, this very year that have travelled and are already doing good for then selves, girls and boys alike. you just need to be sure who it is you're going to meet there and the kinda hustle she's into and can fix you up with. you're hard working and I duff my heart for you ma, but please it is more respectable and sane to work for money than beg for it. you'll be able to do good for yourself over there I believe that a 100%. take that chance you might be the one to shine the light and raise your family once and for all. Besides I'd you must further here, why HND? why not BSC once and for all.
PS: it might not be so easy at first but I'm sure you know all about that. wish you the very best.

The fact that you seek advice here does not require you to nickname a moniker "confused977" . What you call yourself matters, how you see yourself also matters. After this tumbling ensure to pick another moniker that picks your taste for whom you are.

So you advice I keep doing what I am doing and look out for a university or continue with the polytechnic?

Don't go to the polytechnic again. OND is as good as HND. Companies would even prefer to take OND graduates to HND graduates. If you have to go to school, it really have to be good school like Lagos Business School where you would be assigned internship but I know you can't afford their bachelor program tuition.

Nigeria is so difficult, I cannot guarantee you business would keep growing. The economic is bad. But one thing to do is to diversify. Keep saving and keep expanding your business in many directions. You would likely make it if you know how to expand business and turn it to standard brand like House of Tara took her makeup from scratch. That means you need to be present on social media and attending events. Making a special brand name probably from China. That is why school is important if not you would still remain a small fry in your business. 200k per month profit may not even help you as time goes on. Ask family that earn 250k per month. the money don't last till month end! But you seem intelligent enough to know how to build a global brand

Lastly, if you must go oversea, make it US or Canada. if you did very well in SAT exam, you can get a scholarship to study in US for free. But you are not a baby, it is hard to find husband abroad. Men here find it hard to marry for reason I can really grapple with. Anyway I know why sha. So these are the issues. If you do marry a green card older in US, u will be free to work. these work are not easy. But the easiest work is braiding hair. You can get up to $250 just to braid anyone's hair. So you may wanna start learning such craft.

In Nigeria, you will feel at home plus many uncertainty. If you work hard abroad, you would most likely make it and your Nigeria husband will respect you. But a woman without money suffer so much in the hands of men in Nigeria. Think!

Don't allow yourself to be trafficked into sex slavery. If is not USA, UK or Canada, then you have to be very careful. For what ever reason, don't go to any Asian, African or Middle Eastern country.

You have just shown how ignorant and uninformed you are. Because if you were current, you would know that steps are being taken to equalize HND and BSc. and for your info; because most companies like cheap labour, OND holders easily get jobs this days. Even banks employ ND holders this days and pay them less. So get your facts right, HND is not on the same level with SSCE.

OP I'll advise you to try and further ur education (BSc. /HND) while still running ur business, it won't be easy, but you've done it before. God bless you.

*Tuatara (BSc.,MSc.)

You were so fast to reply that you did not take time to think. "Steps are being taken" is just a political statement. Has it been enacted into law? NO! Bsc and HNd are never on same level cos the standard for entry is lowered. Some people won't go to school if not for Polytechnic. I see it as remedial education sef.

I would advice you don't take whatever your friend overseas is saying seriously 'cause you could end up in a brothel in a foreign land as a prostitute. They know how to traffic naive girls.

Secondly, HND is as good as O'level in the Nigerian labour market. If you were able to school and venture into entrepreneurship then I'll advice you further your education while continuing what you've been doing in the past.
Please, in as much as you have given her good advice, I want to correct you on the aspect of "HND is as good as O'level in the Nigeria Labour Market." has there been any job openings thay say HND/O'level? Is it not HND/Bsc? I understand your reasons, perhaps just advice her to further, rather than dropping this degree difference, I know many person who ended been frustrated and depressed just because of the quest for University degree, neglecting Polytechnic and at the end, didn't go to school at all. A friend of mine currently working with HND for a start close to 100k, in fact as a matter of fact, there are things I won't mention here, a well reputable company in Nigeria pays both. So everyone has different graces. Her grace can be different from yours. That's all.

My reason for advising you to put education first is because the best time for education is when you are young.
You may decide to postpone your education until a later stage in life, but events may overtake your plans. You may get married and start a family. Pursuing a degree and raising a family at the same time can be very exhausting.
Trust me, now is the best time. The longer you delay the acquisition of higher education the more difficult it will become for you when you eventually decide to go through with it.

You very right in all you said. Thanks for writing back, God bless.

This is good. a well reputable Polytechnic in Nigeria. Please if you know your Friend over there is legit and good who will not lure you into something else, but if otherwise, go back to school. if you have your way, apply for Direct entry and HND at same time to avoid all your eggs on one basket. Forget about what people say about jobs out there., Do your thing and follow your instincts, your grace will always differ from others, which you will continue to pray for. most of my friends got graduate trainee jobs easily immediately after NYSC, so your case may be different. Just be focused and remain steadfast. Never get distracted and avoid bad companies. have a good day.

Don't take my post personal. My point is, she should further to get a higher playing field than her fellow HND holders. I never said I'm better 'cause anyone with common sense will know that OND/HND in Nigerian labour market is equivalent to SSCE though you might think it's better.
stop talking nonsense!!! Who the hell are u, a professor at Harvard University or who Bla bla bla....I have friends who are HND and OND holders working in Mobil, Chevron, Shell, Coca Cola, NNPC, Saipem, etc so what the hell are u talking about Stop saying rubbish and say what u know okay

To be Frank with you, most of my HND and OND holder friends are doing better than my BSc and Msc holder friends. Stay there and be deceiving yourself with ordinary certificate

All Nigerian certificate; be it OND, NCE, HND, Bsc, MSC, PhD have no value in the international community!

What determines your success in life is not the certificate u acquired or the school u finished from but your dream, your vision, your personal drive, your creativity and your ability to harness your God given talent and skill not your educational qualification.

People like you end up jobless and broke even after acquiring all the degrees and certificates in the world.

Just go back and read how you ridiculed HND and OND certificates as if you are smarter or more better than OND and HND graduates, you should be ashamed of your comment, nonsense angry

@op, you can combine your studies with your business. Try and expand your business using internet and ecommerce. Create a Facebook fan page for your business and an Instagram page and expand your customer base and your income will increase to the extent you may not bother about fund to sponsor yourself through school anymore.

Combine the both and pause the travel stuff for now till you are done with your HND or Bsc via direct entry.

Unless you have a clear planned opportunity to travel to countries like:

1. USA
2. Canada
3. Australia
4. Germany

Please don't travel. Don't travel to Arab countries please....they don't have regard for black women....also be careful of Asian countries too....

Consider expanding your business through internet/ecommerce while you further your education, and for this purpose, consider Yabatech, LASU or LASPOTECH so u can be in Lagos and be able to expand your business using internet and ecommerce which is easier in Lagos or u can PM. You alone should PM, not anyone else, thanks and may God bless your dedication and hardwork and crown it with laughter at the end.

Not everyone will work for people , some creates Jobs irrespective of their qualification.

Stop glorifying an egocentric soul like kimbra. Ignoring her make her sullen.

It takes someone with serious trauma to compare HND with SSCE. I am sure she is the type who will do anything to get her certificate and work for 40k per month as a so called graduate.

Dear op follow this advice keenly abeg.
Me sef I know anyone that offers me opportunity to go out of naija now, my ist impression will be to jump at the offer considering how dead and annoying I think naija is. But still it might not always be the best thing to do at least not yet, else u are getting full sponsorship, and I mean not just by mouth. Remember your life is your responsibility alone, no one owes u anytin and so can dissapoint u at anytime.
After all said, op use your OND to get direct entry 200 into a good fed uni, stay in hostel for a start, u will still have some money left, then u work and fight so hard to get a scholarship(they are alot of different ones, find out bout them) to get more funds in your pocket and that will also help u not to loose focus in your acada, nd then still grow your biz by the side. U will b glad u did, after schl, biz will also grown reasonably, u will then have more money nd the decision will b clearer for u to make on whether u want to go abroad or not, no age restriction for going abroad baby!

I beg, easy on the chick jare. She is very obsessed with/in her certificate world, they are the type who just must have certificate at all cost, by all means possible, then graduate to beg for a 30k job per month and look for people to augment their income through any means.

Back to the topic,
Relocating to Lagos could actually make things a little bit hard becos of new terrain and clients. From her post she isn't that buoyant, just struggling, a slight change in clientele and environment could spell doom.

In addition to what you have said, I had suggest she continues from her base, which will give her food for sustenance, the most essential, then, use e-commerce as suggested. Delivery could be done via transport companies and network of trusted people or friends.

Before you jump in, I have worked in some poor and big brand firms in Nigeria and was working in one of the big foreign firms in Nigeria but I decided to resign to face my business squarely so that I can have my own company in future that my kids and grandkids can inherit because those that own the big companies we all are applying to work in today started it someday and they don't have 50 heads.

And to the glory of God, amidst recession in Nigeria, my business has grown so big that I can afford to pay some of my former colleagues and I earn x 4 of what I was earning as salary when working.... How did I do it Dream, setting goals, being focused, researching daily and implementint my goals and finally tabling it to God.

Today I earn far more than some friends living abroad who are also big boys...so its not always greener abroad, if one plan well here in Nigeria and God is on your side, you can succeed anywhere in the world.

I know most guys living abroad who think themselves as rich earn between $2000 - $5000 monthly and after paying bills, they maybe left with $1500 - $3000. And to the glory of God today, I earn up to those ranges monthly and have achieved more than I did while working within 1year of facing my business completely, so Nigeria still works.

Delivery could be done via transport companies and network of trusted people or friends.

that's true, you are right...she may continue with her current base for now.

Don't mind that Kimbra of a girl talking nonsense about OND and HND as if those holding it as shits or wasted their time.

The last time I did interview for people i wanted tonhire for my own personal business, u won't believe some masters degree holders applied for a fronk desk and personal assistant job roles I advertised for.....and she is here talking thrash as if Bsc or masters is a guarantee for job in Nigeria. Experience will teach her a good lesson sha

Good afternoon everyone here. I have been an ardent of this forum so, I felt it wouldn't be bad to bare my heart here as I know I'd surely get an advice that will make me see clearer. Please bear with me as I am not very perfect when it comes to expressing my self in writing. Pls pardon my write-up should you see it as too long. I just want to bare it all so one can know what to tell me. Thanks.
My Name is Amanda. I lost my parents when I was sixteen . I am from a family of five. I was about to sit for WAEC before the sudden demise of my parents. I had to drop out of school cus I couldn't pay bills and my older siblings were still struggling, so I got a job. I worked as a cleaner say for 2 years and I was able to save up something and enrolled for WAEC AND GCE and I passed. I tried my first admission it didn't so the second year someone told me to try a Polytechnic and fortunately I got admitted. I joined school but I kept working and I saved up some bucks and at the end of my ND at federal poly Auchi my G. P was 3.40 yes! I cried for joy.
I. T (Industrial Training) started and I felt it would make more sense If I could start something little within my environment. Since I knew a lot about female bags and wears I held on to the idea and started. My customer base grew as I went from department to department showing and convincing the "big girls" in school about my goods. I approached just anybody so long you female. I kept moving at that pace until I was heavily sought after. My room became my boutique.
Why I am confused now
All glory to God I have been able to establish a good relationship with people who sale to me on credit which allows me own varieties and sell more.
1. Not to exaggerate, I make a minimum of 40 to 45k a month as my own.
2. I ain't rich but I think I am comfortable for a young lady of my age. I will be 24 3rd October.
I focused more on my business and I didn't join my mates for the HND session. My reason was; after school now, I go carry certificate they Waka up and down. Make I kuku use this small money wey I don save use am run my business first as I thought school can wait. could I be wrong?

# I have a course mate who traveled overseas after our ND and she has been encouraging me to come over since I could afford the travel expenses (not to lie, I was considering this also which made me forget going back for my HND.)
Now my question is if you were me would you go back to school? I am of the opinion that schooling in Nigeria without a good back up could leave me frustrated after graduation. No job.
# if you were me would you just continue with your business and open up a shop or would you travel out, get a job and go to school there?
Pls advice Me as I would be turning 24 in no time and I am JUST CONFUSED embarassed I have the feeling that any decision I make at this point would either make or destroy me permanently. Pls help a sister embarassed
Should I go back to school? cus my dad always wanted me to get an education but I feel I should be able to know what works as times have changed.
Pls I am open to any form of advice. God bless.

education isn't about getting the degree. it's being able to read, write, express urself, and behave like a reasonable human being, making decisions and relating with people. most of The richest and most popular people in the world aren't graduates.

Which country are you planning to travel to?

.
Good morning Sir. I really appreciate your response, God bless.

I have been researching about Malaysia as I read that if I could get a student Visa I could get a job that could help me while I school too. But it ain't a final thought as I am open to other options of any country that could allow me work and school be it the US or UK or any good country should it turn out the travel option stands out.
Waiting for ur reply thanks.

Whats wrong with this egoistic attitude you portraying... It would have been better if you say. Bsc has more chance than HND in the labour market. Than comparing it with SSCE... I guess the common sense isn't common after all.. Cos only a child will use that kind of comparison..
FATALITY
