balogunsam: @40manlappy do you have an updated link for the road safety letter please? No, I don't. Someone told me last week that the man didn't demand tip from him after the service though he had planned to do so. In any case, I learned that you can get it at the Nigerian Embassy here in Ottawa for $50. |

Dear All,
There is a 3 bedroom apartment that is available from September 1st in Hull section of Gatineau, Quebec. It is about 10-15 minutes drive to downtown Ottawa and currently goes for $869 monthly. The existing lease expires March 31st, 2019. Utilities is included except hydro and there is one free parking space. Please send me a PM if you are interested or know anyone else. Thank you. |

DadR: Thanks for the feedback boss and it is quite appreciated. However, it is required that one applies to the Government of Canada for PR after obtaining a CSQ from Quebec. I have read this on Quebec's website. You are welcome. For clarification, do you mean to apply again under Express Entry after obtaining Quebec's approval or to apply for PR card? Maybe you can share what you read here. |

DadR: Hello Seniors,
For the benefit of those who are looking to migrate to Canada through Quebec PNP, I will like to ask the below question(s).
For QPNP, it is required that one applies for a CSQ (certificate of nomination) and thereafter use same to apply to the Federal (IRCC) for Permanent Resident (PR) visa. As you are aware that Quebec has its own required settlement fund which is way below that of the Federal. For example, POF required by Quebec for 2 adults and 1 child (under 18 years old) is $5,150 while that of the Federal is $19,093.
So the question is, while QPNP accepts $5,150 from a family of 3 as stated above for the issuance of a CSQ, will IRCC ask for $19,093 for the issuance of a PR or use that of Quebec?
Kindly assist to torchlight this matter.
Thank you
cc: maternal, 40manlappy, azed1, salford, salford1, vcole, blackbuddy, koonlay5, xx01, other experienced landed seniors, all. Quebec immigration program is not like other PNPs where you still have to apply to IRCC after obtaining the CSQ. It is a separate program that allows a beneficiary to reside and work in Quebec just like obtaining PR under the FSW program allows you to stay in other parts of Canada. Even on the Express Entry application, it is indicated clearly that you cannot apply to Quebec using that medium. As far as I know, it is either FSW/PNP or CSQ, you cannot obtain both. So I doubt that the POF will apply. You may visit their website below to obtain more information on the financial requirements. https://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/index.html |

DadR: Dear Seniors, trust you are all doing fine.
Please would you advise a non-french speaker to reside and work in Quebec? What are the prons and cons?
Also, if one gets to immigrate to Quebec via PNP, can one leave for another province after staying in Quebec for a while and for how long can one stay before leaving?
Any thoughts please?
cc: Salford1, maternal, azed1, 40manlappy et all Maybe if you lay all the cards on the table, you may get a more robust response.
A non-French speaker can reside in Quebec but you may need French for most jobs. I learned that there is a sizeable English-speaking population in Montreal which is not surprising due to its cosmopolitan nature. I have met a few people who moved from Montreal to Ontario side in search of jobs; maybe due to language limitation. If you intend to work in Quebec, IMO, you will do better if you can speak French.
Quebec is different from the rest of Canada in most things. If you immigrate through "Quebec PNP", you will be given a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ – Québec selection certificate). If I recollect correctly, you will have a moral obligation to stay in Quebec for 2 years during which you are expected to undergo "Francisation" program which includes learning French for at least 1 year. You will be given some funds to take care of your transport, etc. I don't think you can work during this period but that may not be a source of worry if you have your POF intact + financial support from Quebec government.
Housing, childcare and insurance costs are cheaper in Quebec but the sales and income tax are higher. In the end, it is entirely up to you taking into consideration what you really want and your long-range plans. |

sistaj: Hello @40manlappy, did u finally settle in Gattineau? I am expecting copr and hoping to land in September with my family of 5.I am looking at settling in Gattineau because it is ranked high on the places to live and close to Ottawa.I also love the bilingualism and see it as an opportunity to fine-tune my French.I have a Delf B2 in French but my skills have gone rusty as I had no one to talk with when I finished my French studies. Anyone else with info on the area can also enlighten me.I am also open to other regions just that for now Gattineau is the first choice but it is not cast in stone. Hubby works in the bank back home and I was in Hr/admin until I commenced master of research studies last year.I will do a short landing, finish my program around July 2019 and return finally to join my family in Canada.I have been in contact with some schools in Canada about transferring my studies but they responded I will apply to start afresh and some of the coursework component might be waived for me.Because of the hassles,i have decided to finish my current program and then commence PhD studies next year in Canada. Given that I want a new career in research/academia,I want a suburb that has an easy commute to place of work for hubby(no job yet though but we think it might be in Ontario) and I when I commence studies/work though I have not gotten a school yet but my research shows most of the unis are in Ontario too. Thanks for the anticipated responses. Apologies for the delayed response. If I may ask, is your hubby a fluent French speaker? If not, Quebec may limit his chances. Ottawa is bilingual city too, so you may also take that into consideration though there are jobs that do not require French. Depending on what he does in Nigeria and his career aspirations for Canada, I suggest you take a look at GTA and surrounding cities IF Ontario is your choice. Since you are short-landing to return in July 2019, his potential for getting a job in his desired field is a factor you should seriously consider.
Note that varying levels of language proficiency are required for some roles. As @maternal noted, you do not need to come to Quebec to fine-tune your French. There are Francophone communities all over Ontario. You/hubby may stand out and have better chances with your "rusty" French outside Quebec/other parts of Ontario/Canada than compete with native/fluent speakers of the language.
How old are your kids? From my experience, if they are older than 4, there may be a challenge with catching up with French language. It maybe easier if they are younger than that age.
Also, you need an Ontario address to enjoy settlement/services in Ontario upon landing-I recommend this for your hubby. Usually, this has to be evidenced by lease agreement or bank statement. Regarding taxation, to the best of my knowledge, your residence as at December 31 of every year will determine which provincial tax will apply.
Note that almost everything in Quebec is different (taxation, sales tax, car registration etc) and to some extent, the province is more accepting if you speak French. To be fair, Gatineau/Quebec has cheaper accommodation, car insurance, childcare costs but overall, I suggest you look at where your family would have better opportunities. Should you decide on Ottawa, I can link you up with a small "e-community" of Nigerians there. |

Saintp: Oh! My PM is not working, I can't remember the email and password for this account. However, @koonlay5 gave it to me. I contacted him and he wants 20k, is it what it is? Apparently, he has "opened eye" like @koonlay5 noted. Got this man's contact from an acquaintance who processed hers in March 2018. He did not ask for a dime; merely asked her to send 2k for courier and forwarded the letter to her destination. I was so impressed that I felt obligated to share the information here for the benefit of others. In my opinion then, it was cheaper than Ottawa's $50, especially for someone who is still in the country. Maybe you should explore @studyexec's suggestion since the man has decided to go the typical "Naija" way.... |

Anyone that needs the DL authentication letter urgently from FRSC can send me a PM so that I can share a contact that I got recently. I don't think it would be appropriate to post his phone number and email address here.
Based on available information, you may just be required to arrange for courier service if you don't have someone to pick it up for you in Abuja.
IMO, that is still cheaper than paying $50 to obtain it in Ottawa, especially if you are still in Nigeria.

tollu: We keep going back and forth, can't make up our minds! As Kontagious said in the other thread, this post PPR phase is something else. After one headache comes another one. Lol. I wish we had a close family member over there, the "where" decision would have been an easy one.
We're still looking at BC but the research keeps giving me all sorts. Vancouver: expensive no jobs, Abbotsford: drugheads, Victoria: expensive no jobs and on and on. Jobs are not an issue for me because I freelance, this is mainly for my husband. And I'd really like for us to start life in a proper city then move to wherever we decide. Ayam tayad of the research jare. We've looked at other provinces but we just keep returning to the beginning.
This is a clarion call to anyone in BC willing to take me under their wing, I be good pikin. Hep needed. All that cold and snow of other provinces is scaring me s***less. Pele, I can imagine. It is not an easy decision. Have you looked at Prince George, Surrey, Kelowna, Kamloops, Langley? cc: Gymme |
