agaugust: .... Spin doctoring. Fail. As published 13 minutes ago. All your garbage cancelled out. ___________ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24169992 Scores dead in Nigeria after Boko Haram 'ambush' in Borno At least 87 people have been killed in an attack by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria's north-eastern Borno state, according to local officials. Disguised in military uniforms, the militants set up checkpoints outside the town of Benisheik and shot dead those trying to flee, witnesses said. They also razed dozens of buildings in Tuesday's attack. Boko Haram, which wants to create an Islamic state across Nigeria, has waged a deadly insurgency since 2009. Continue reading the main story Boko Haram at a glance Founded in 2002 Official Arabic name, Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad" Initially focused on opposing Western education Nicknamed Boko Haram, a phrase in the local Hausa language meaning, "Western education is forbidden" Launches military operations in 2009 to create an Islamic state across Nigeria Founding leader Mohammed Yusuf killed in same year in police custody Succeeded by Abubakar Shekau, who the military wrongly claimed in 2009 had been killed Suspected to have split into rival factions in 2012 Military claims in August 2013 that Mr Shekau and his second-in-command Momodu Bama have been killed in separate attacks; no independent confirmation of claim From preachers to slave raiders Communications with Borno state have been severely disrupted since May, when a state of emergency was declared in Borno and two neighbouring states. But attacks have increased recently despite a massive military deployment to worst-affected areas. Local vigilante groups have been formed to help counter the militants but scores of these volunteers have been killed in recent weeks. Borno state governor Kashim Shettima visited the scene on Thursday, and described the killings as "barbaric and un-Islamic", and pledged financial assistance to relatives of the victims. The Boko Haram members drove into the town in about 20 pick-up trucks, AFP quoted an anonymous security source as saying He said they were heavily-armed, some with "anti-aircraft guns". Benisheik was also the scene of fierce clashes earlier this month, which reportedly left five militants and 13 vigilante members dead. The town lies 70km (45 miles) west of the state capital, Maiduguri, where Boko Haram was founded in 2002. Last month, the army said it had killed Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau but this has not been confirmed and the militants' attacks have continued. Observers says it appears Boko Haram is taking revenge against vigilante groups, adding weight to fears that the strategy may trigger an escalation of the violence. ________ An army that cannot fight its own battles and protect citizens. @Agaugust: Lol!! Are you trying to console yourself from all the shame and disgrace that your men have suffered at the hands of BH. Our army had nothing to hide and was even brave enough to televise the mass funeral internationally as events were unfolding in the burial of 13 gallant soldiers. I was personally present in the funeral to pay my last respect as it was hosted in my unit before their bodies could be transferred to their various home towns. We have nothing to hide and the world has witnessed the truth through media coverage and television. Unlike in Nigeria where funerals are held behind closed doors and at the venue unknown to the media talkless of their graves. Nigerian military is full of lies and their denial to tell the truth is clearly aimed at denying the terrorists psychological victory. Nigeria will never win against South Africa. |

agaugust: It will be very stupid to use your missiles at that range. Do you even forget that all our MEKOs are armed with umkhonto missiles which are optimised to shoot down any approaching anti ship missile and air fighters. The Umkhonto provides an all round defence, from air to the water surface and has a sensitive head to detect any approaching missiles and air attacks. Your NNS Arandu will never defeat our four valour class warships and subs which are armed with UGM84 Hapoons anti ship missiles. You will fire all your 40 otomats to no avail for they will be stopped by the most versatile Ukhonto missiles. After you have fired all your missiles it will be the end of your navy my friend. |

zaandrew: thank you very much....so all the claims your south african friends have been posting since some days ago that nigerian army underestimated its casualties in recent battles with boko haram, is also eqaully false, and a lie to be dismissed...nigeria too is unable to keep secret because their comrades will speak out in CONFIRMED and RELIABLE public sources/media...anything less than that is a big lie nigerian army casualty figures remain fact and tru as published by army headquaters. . |

Fighter Pilot: please dont drag this thread backwards, i proved to @saengine on this forum june/july that south african valour frigate has no defense against multiple attack of nigerian NNS Aradu Otomat anti-ship missile. please dont let me disgrace you here, Otomat missile is sea hugging and skimming at about 6 feet above the water surface, Umkhonto missile is NOT designed to stop anti-ahip missiles that skim water surface at about supersonic speed, Umkhonto can only stop air borne high or medium altitude missiles with slow speed like cruise missiles, Umkhonto missile is NOT a standard anti-missile missile, dont let me use my civilian uniform to disgrace your military uniform again here today . |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 5:34am On Sep 20, 2013 |
agaugust: IS A LIE!!! Umkhonto is fully capable of providing an all round defence against any attack. All anti ship missiles are slower than Umkhonto, hence Umkhonto sense them approaching from kilometres away. Umkhonto also has the capability of multiple firing, meaning is able to fire more missiles at one time. Denel's SAMs a hit | ITWeb 16 Apr 2008 ... This will make it the third user of the missile and associated IT, after the SA Navy and ... manager Machiel Oberholzer says the Umkhonto is optimised to shoot down anti-ship missiles |

Henry120: Nigeria was/ still is very involved in the operations in mali. I have pasted in the past multiple images of nigerian troops deployed in Timbuktu, Lere, mali-mauritania border, banamba and goa. We pulled out of the mission in mali because our mandate there had been fulfilled. We invested 1200 combat troops backed by 4 fighter jets, 3 attack helicopters and 50 million dollars in aid to the government of mali. We also have set-up a military hospital in mali. As such nigerians are proud of the military's achievements in mali. You can spin doctor all you want lie the way you want Fact you lost 40 men and 65 are missing live with it and go tell that lies to you fellow nigerians ,now you claim that BH members are coming from outside nigeria that's a lie unless you prove otherwise your army is weak your fellow Nigerians always say you army is secretive not me,the is no secret they just don't have the neccesary equipment and training to fight BH period I suggest that they swallow their ego and come and ask South Africa for some training before is too late. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 5:48am On Sep 20, 2013 |
Umkhonto locks to a target like a magnet and so it doesn't matter how low an otomat can fly, that is where the umkhonto will go. Even if the Otomat goes underwater the umkhonto will follow it because they will be a couple made from heaven. The umkhonto has a capability of marrying a target and will follow her husband everywhere he goes like a woman who has been given a love portion. @Agaugust claims are unfounded that Umkhonto cannot shoot down Otomat. The basic purpose of Umkhonto is to stop any type of Anti-Ship missiles including AGMs. All 16 missiles can shoot in a split second with each one locked on its target at various angles. |
