fergie001: Oh well, that was a goodwill message, not a budget presentation speech. A budget speech is a general outline of government intention for a specific period of time. It is delivered before the National Assembly. Let us not forget that the Legislative arm has not been very cooperative in this particular area. Happy New Year to all. 1 Like |

First time Pa Saint Buhari is saying the truth. When it comes to religious tolerance, Yorubas are the best, followed by the South south and Igbos. Northern Nigeria is a disaster to Nigeria in all areas of life. The only problem Yorubas have is they can betray their friend in times of trouble out of fear, and they support evil out of fear and in order to gain politically and economically and I wouldn't blame them on that. Also when it comes to being peace loving and accommodating, Yorubas are also great at that. Only few Yorubas are fearless and can stand by you when fire burns, e.g. Prof. Wole Soyinka, Fella, Fajuyi (blessed memory), etc....but generally, Yorubas are fearful and liverless, another reason why they are peaceful and tolerant. The major problem Igbos have in Nigeria is scar of the civil war....they no longer trust the north and the Yorubas when it comes to national politics, but individually, Igbos are very good with Hausa, Yoruba, etc but during politics, Igbos know Yorubas will sell out and Hausas must bring their dominance nature and bloody nature too. One way to reunite Nigeria and solve most of our national issues is to bring sincere unity by making Igbos vital part of Nigerian leadership not just by zoning presidency to Igbos but first start appointing Igbo service men as service chiefs...e.g. Chief of Army Staff IG of Police Comptroller of Customs Chief of Air Staff Chief of Naval Staff Chief Judge of the Federation Etc, etc.... If we start to do all these ensuring political appointments are made based on merit and not based on tribe and religion, then every tribe will stop clamoring to produce president and tribal and religious politics will disappear with time. But whereby you appoint only your tribesmen, your religious members into key positions, then tribe and religion will continue to be a defining factor in Nigerian politics. So Saint Buhari start the change this year by reshuffling your cabinet and making it detribalised from what it is now. 3 Likes |

post=63787717: He was talking about separating religion/ethnicity from politics, you are posting some gibberish. SW is probably the most secular region. We have almost equal distribution of the major religions. We mutually respect ourselves. That is why everyone has a voice here, it is not a zombie-like manner of other regions. We don't do some moronic bloc votes, like your people, except it will favour our region. Even at that, the vote won't be bloc votes. 1 Like |

This is what we are doing to ameliorate the problem, etc. At this stage, people do not want to know anything about budget but about succour and how to grasp straws across board. If the NA isn't co-operative,what should happen? What is the role of his party as majority in the NA? This is where the party should take a pivotal role, and let the members know what their mandates should be. Can you itemize to me,some examples where the NA hasn't been co-operative? This is a New Year,we should all start afresh. |

humilitypays: Your last lines gave out your ignorance. Yorubas and Igbos never have any political alignment, so how do we betray them? They are the one that always work with the Hausas. Yorubas are too polished and strong-willed for such. The only successful alliance of SW and the North is the 2015 election. The SDP success under IBB was botched. I dnt know where you all get this Yorubas being sell-out when SE has been selling to Any Government In Power (AGIP) since eons. Yet, you still cry of marginalization. Yorubas are just naturally ahead. 2 Likes |

asunmoGGMU:You won't understand that last paragraph and I am too lazy to start further explanation so let's assume you won. I love Yorubas for their peaceful and accommodating nature.... My only problem with the north is their lack of respect for human life. Most Hausa/Fulani don't value human life. They kill and destroy at any slightest provocation which makes them barbaric and not fit to be called humans seriously. Hausa/Fulani don't value life just like the Arabs....which makes me wonder of it has to do with their religion or what cos every other human I know value life and don't kill or destroy so easily like Hausa/Fulani/Arabs |

olasco18: This last Saturday, a woman who came to the nearby mosque to solicit for financial support to complete her house rent, shared a beautiful story with us in my store. This Moslem woman told us how she also got support from Christians. She said she went to a Redeem Church where the young pastor prayed for her and also blessed her with 10k from the Church welfare purse. She said three Celestial Churches had also promised to assist her with something no matter how small, in January. They all knew she was a Muslim, it's not as if they don't know, she said she normally stood outside the church to speak with the ushers. I asked her why she never entered the Churches, she said she can't enter the house of God without performing ablution. She said her Land lord sold the house without the tenants knowledge, collected rent from all the tenants, despite knowing her situation as a widow, and a petty trader with three children. They were given three months to move out, which expires in February, this was why she was asking for help. 2 Likes |

JohnXcel:nobody is talking about allegiance here. Of course Yorubas don't need Igbo allegiance likewise Igbos don't need Yoruba allegiance. This is well understood especially after the scar of the civil war which is why sane minds are saying the best thing to do to Nigeria now is to divide it or at worst, return back to regional system of government so Nigerians can coexist as independent regions with each region being solely in charge of their political affairs and economy because the national political hatred still live in our hearts directly or indirectly, but when this topic is raised, same Yorubas saying they don't need Igbos will shout and call Igbos name for wanting to go their own way, na wa o Its a crazy situation but if Jews in midst of their enemies are prospering and doing exploits, then Igbos will continue to prosper no matter the hatred, so relax and enjoy the new year breeze 1 Like |

Hate, dislike and disrespect goes against our deepest Yoruba values of the unity of humanity. Our wisest have always advocated and taught us that Yorubas seek to engender and strive to create a nation of tolerance, compassion, spiritual understanding of life, and love. However, I found most my Yoruba brothers on this forum to be too subjective, and paternalistic. To dismiss ethinicity point blank is as ignorant and extreme as to make a tribe an issue with which to divide us. To dismiss those who point to the manifest realities of ethinicity, is to act with scientific disrespect and bias. The challenge for modern man who aspires to a deeper understanding of life is to realize that we are all brothers and sisters, even though we are born into different ethnical entities or tribes. This imposes on us the need to celebrate our differences and diversity, instead of ignoring them. And to see the unity of soul behind the veil of tribalism. Personally, I do not believe that ethinicity or tribe is such a huge factor, and those who define themselves by tribe and physical attributes, unusually are enmeshed in subconscious self-inferiority and complex definition of who they are and often end in unhappiness and misery. Because it is really not true that we humans are divided by race or ethinicity. It often a weaponized strategy of manifesting our long lost self-recognition. In fact, if reincarnation is true and if reliable evidence can be found in this age then it may very well be that we experience life on earth in different ethnic entities or tribes through different lifetimes. We are divided and caged by culture, beliefs and the inability to open our minds to breaking free from group thinking. Moreso, we are divided by generational "hand-me-down" belief systems and trauma-based emotional reactivity. And I think that matters of intelligence and consciousness have ultimately nothing to do with genetics. The evidence for this is empirically available to any objective person. I do think though, that some people with certain ethnic backgrounds face a greater challenge in breaking free from their "tribal identity", due to entrenched belief systems and mass traumas that prevent progress. So, in a way, it is paradoxically true that tribalism can impede one's progress in life, but it has to do with the unconscious beliefs and emotional dynamics of the tribe that are passed on to an individual in childhood. It is far more complex than blaming it on anyone or tribe. For example, Swedes may have found more mental liberation from certain false beliefs (for example the nonsense that women and men not equal before God), than any tribe in Nigeria, at this point in history. The journey of progress is one of elevation of consciousness, not tribe. If it was an issue of ethnic identity, there would be no hope for Nigeria, and it is in large degree due to this traumatizing sense of hopelessness about the Nigeria, that tribalism derive their violent, angry and destructive ways. Yet, as Nigeria, we should honour our ancestors and seek to understand our cultural heritage, the good and the bad, from all epochs of our history, and just as we should seek to understand what our identity is. As opposed to what the capricious Obas or Politicians try to force feed us about who we really are. This can of course be found in the recent of controversy of superiority between the Yorubas and Benin. A controversy that only destroys our ultimate sense of progress. Two race that look the same way, speak from almost the same heritage. I think being a true Yoruba man includes having compassion and care for all members of the human race, no matter what tribe, colour of skin or ethnic heritage. hence, we do not need any validation from anyone to tell us how we see ourselves. I think its time we look in words and elevate ourselves against the sacrilege of of imposing our sense of foisted history on our children. Rather we should rewrite history to favour all that live with and love us. While working on relegating to the background the inadequacies of our adversaries. Ignore any tribalism view and hate but react with superior intelligence of Love and respect for all. Those that dont give love can't earn it. In Nigeria, beyond our ethic definitions we are brother to all that live in her. Happy New year. |

JohnXcel: I am tired of these people. We have never had political alliance with them. They are always connected with the centre while we are too focused on our region. This is why we have always had successful regional party since Awolowo days till Tinubu's of present. It is always them with Hausas, yet they criticize us for selling out. They didn't even vote MKO then and OBJ's case was cos he had centre alignment. I am sick of their hypocrisy on this nairaland. 3 Likes |
