I understand the Op's point, and even though I wouldn't support the idea of groom's price, I'm glad she has suggested it. Because the response from most guys here shows that men wouldn't allow themselves to be objectified the way women have for ages. I think women ought to learn something from that. Like Reina has said: the concept of bride price (it doesn't matter how little it is) gives some men the impression that they have purchased their wives. Some of these men don't believe they owe their wives their fidelity, or sexual gratification, or anything other than upkeep. It's also the concept of bride price that justifies bequeathing a woman to her brother in-law in the event of her husband's demise; and it gives the extended family the temerity to monitor "their wife" for productivity and to maltreat her when the husband is no more.

Over the years, we have abolished many of our cultural practices in Africa, but bride price seems to stick because the choice to pay the price doesn't belong to the man. it is the choice of the lady and family to demand and accept it on behalf of the lady.

These comes to mind when I say this. There is no place for feminism in happy and organized home, every one knows their place. A happy and loving husband can't treat his wife like an object or with disrespect, a happy husband will not hold back his wife from doing what makes her happy.

Same goes for the wife, a wife that love and respects her husband, she won't give the husband any room to think there is competition among both of them (I guess that's what gave birth to this feminist movement), a loving wife puts her family first, same goes for the husband.

How many of you ladies that are advocating for feminism witnessed it playing out in your various homes while growing up with your parents (am asking those that were lucky enough to be a part of a happy family).

You ladies can practice this feminist thing in your leisure period of life, but if you want to take up during the serious part of your life that is - marriage / family,

I have been part of a school administration that has over 750 students... Don't you ever... I repeat... Ever say guys are always more intelligent that girls or... The percentage of the guys to girls in the top ten is even up to 60:40.. I am not telling you stories.. My dad established the school over 15 years ago so I know what I'm talking about...

The ratio of men to women sent to a conflict zone is 10:1 laughable statistics... It is true that the male outnumber the female in this regard but don't exaggerate the number okay.. Feminism that you think is stupid is what gave rise to the enlistment of female in the military... If you don't know, the military is better for that..

to say men have kept women oppressed educationally is not accurate.
coz today in the US more women than men are going to college but still intelligence-wise they still cant compete.women are all rushing to soft careers like gender studies, nursing and child care. while the few men who enrole enter the hard STEM careers, that is, Science Engineering Mathematics etc.the careers that are harder to muster and take longer to qualify more and eventually pay more.
the funny thing is women got college preferences and took up Service Industry careers---the same careers being replaced by automation.bringing women back to square zero.and driving feminists mad with anger and seeking desperately who to blame. you may have heard Amazon and other retailers are starting to build unmanned shops where people deal with computers.and all those till jobs that women had happily dominated are evaporizing infront of their eyes.
