Firstly, you jumped into conclusion that I was against her write-up simply because I'm a feminist whereas, the said girl misrepresented feminism on the thread but as usual, kids like you will always asslick anyone that writes anything that supports your gender without reasoning cognitively.

Secondly, you foolishly announced that I claimed not to be feminist in the heat of the moment but I'm on a feminist thread then I wonder what "Heat" you were referring to 'cause the op can't even say anything intelligent and I wonder how I'd need to be one to defend the concept.

And she's right @Chuka66 and @kimbra which is why I always say feminism would be extremely difficult in Africa, most Africa or more specifically Nigeria women cannot be true feminist , there are some many things that favours Nigeria women here because of the Patriarchy ranging from bride price, the male being the provider, paying for dates and etc , However as we've advance as a society we've realized that some of those things are not attainable due to economical reasons, the idea of groom price would never work, its just not us which is where the test of feminism shows, a lot of Nigerian women value marriage and the glamour around it more than anything than to be the one to be radical enough to support feminism all the way, who wants to be ridiculed all for what, its easier to just deny feminism after all. Not like we are in a situation where women have to be in the kitchen , and all. 2nd wave feminism have already paved the way for that, so need and yea OP is right a lot of women are enjoying on the successes of past feminist. I don't believe in the groom price because frankly its too radical and I don't any man would even agree to it, we are deeply rooted to toxic masculinity , however a better one would be the eradication of bride price, but then again bride price depending of where you're marrying from is not even that expensive its the wedding preparation that's the wahala so really what's the point.

Also the complicated part I know is that some feminism say feminist should be given the equal right to decide what they want for themselves. So if a feminist wants to have bride price then she's free as long as its not imposed on her, but no matter how I perceived that logically I still find it weird. OP maybe you might want to create this topic on AskFeminists reddit to gain more insights. Its an interesting concept I think India is the only one doing it.

But bride price goes to the family of the bride and most especially the men , and bride price was created by men, I fail to see how women benefit from this, the only thing is that most women just want to get married so they just adhere as they don't want to be ridiculed by the family as they might need the family in the future should a problem occur, if not a lot of women would have eloped but that would be too shameful. Bride price is a man made thing to benefit men.

The main problem for most self proclaimed feminists in Africa is to determine how to separate personal interest from the general interest of the group (Ideology of feminism). They often pick and choose their advocacy in feminism which makes it seem like they are pushing a personal agenda rather than a general one.

On many occasions, this has proven to the problem of feminism in Africa, as it have been interpreted by neutrals as an egotistic adventure rather than a humanitarian pursuit for social justice. They want to challenge the cultural norm that doesn't favor women but resist any attempt to challenge the cultural norm that favors them.

if feminists cant pay their own bride price then the only reasonable way forward is to scrap the bride price all together.
then while we are at it, we give women freedom to keep their surname after marriage.at which point marriage itself would seem pointless so it would need to go. if women are not financially dependent we all know they dont need marriage-just babies.the patriarchy itself goes to shiit and a new system emerges

I've never met a proper African Feminist, the ones I meet and see online are pseudo feminists like the OP said they only support it when it pays them and argue when it doesn't.

Now see this I was at work and we had a meeting, 2 girls , a woman and me and there were only 3 chairs and I got their earlier than the 2 girls but later after the woman and I sat when the girls came one was standing and the woman says can't you see a girl is standing, and I know this girl to be a 'feminist' notice I put the word in quote, I said am sorry ma I cannot she's a feminist and she said what does that have to do with anything, and I explained that standing up and giving the seat for her because she's a lady would be sexist to her and obviously the 'feminist' said its not , that men are supposed to give up their chair for women. Needless to say I just realized we will never have true feminism here if I did that in the western world the woman would question my standing up for her as being sexist, African women enjoy it when the toxic masculinity is in their favour but when its not they start to deny feminism. So I've never seen a true African feminist not staying there ain't. Chai I dey talk too much

exactly lets eradicate it if possible!! Paying groom price was kinda a joke!! But then!! U cant say i want feminism n want men to pay to marry you!!! Finacially independent is very necessary 4 a woman even if ur man fits the bill!!! U never know when he would need ur financial support!! N if u both choose to share the bills!! Fine but a woman should never be solely dependent on a man!! Thats my veiw on feminism!!! Feminism cant survive properly without really hitting on the social roots of it!!
