The question should be: is the hijab part of the school's uniform? If it is not, case closed, if you don't like the school's policy on conventional uniform the school's gate is open.
The school authority should have ignored this distraction and allow the girls to put on hijab. I am very sure the girls themselves will stop wearing it after the initial gira gira. Those girls are exposed and are only being used by their misguided parents for political and religious cheap scores.

The foundation of Nigerian education was based on the idea of our colonial master most if not all were Christian missionaries.
Everything about the structure is in line with Christianity, that is why you can't see anything wrong in it.

We are now an independent nation, our ideology too should be independent,we know there are both Christians and Muslims in this country let accommodate both and stop hiding under secularism, Nigeria is not a secular nation except we want to deceive ourselves.

What is wrong in wearing hijab?will it affect your own dress?
Tell me.The problem stems from the fact that we claim to live together but we fail to understand eachother.
Muslim prays compulsorily 5times a day and part of the requirements is for you to cover what is necessary in your body.If Muslims are not allow to wear hijab, they won't be able to do this obligation anywhere they are whenever there is time for the prayer.

Any thing that is demanded by Muslims are called many names Islamisation, extremism, terrorism.Let stop this and reason intellectually. We are all biased in one way or the other we just don't won't to agree, give us space too what are you afraid of.

Islam is not limited to mosque,it pervades all areas of a Muslim life,he must look at everything with Islamic spectacles and act accordingly.

If it is a private enterprise u can have it in your way but for government owned we both have the right to enjoy it without infringement on our fundamental rights.

Well articulated response but you missed the point. Let me school you a little. There are Christian schools that requires some kind of religious uniforms in that regards and there are Muslims schools where such Islamic uniforms are acceptable. Any parent who want a customised religious training for his/her wards can always take advantage of those institutes.

In go ernnent schools, uniforms are none religious, it's neither Christian related nor Islamic related. Please get that point clear. What stops you from folding g your hijab into a hand ag to wear during prayers in a secluded places??

You sound educated and points well articulated though in a wrong direction. Please restrain from this religious extrimism, it does no one any good.

Religion and it effects. Dialogue with the school authority should be the first option rather than this rancour.

Uniform is different from wearing of hijab. Does wearing of hijab change the school uniform? Students only wear hijab with the school uniform, and mostly same colour as the school uniform.
And the school says they don't want hijab on their school uniform. It's simple, if they don't like the idea, they are free to move to other schools. I don't know why you guys see this as an entitlement.

Why are you so sentimental ? The question remain IS HIJAB part of the School Uniform? Are there no rules and regulation in the School, do the school not have a dressing code? So why bringing Religion into School? if you claim its a govt school,Is the government not for everybody? Religious fanatics won't let peace reign where ever they are. Must you impose your faith on other people?

I'm not trying to bring them down or denigrate them, but I just feel Muslims like to act as if they're being mistreated. I understand that they take their religion as a culture, but then again they should stop forcing their nuggets on other people, because some of us take our religions very seriously too but we know when to cut back.

A government school is not a religious school. It won't kill anyone if the girls drop their hijabs for a few hours of school. Schools don't allow Catholic kids to wear Chaplets and medals and finger Rosaries. Schools don't allow girls from other Christian denominations to cover their hair or wear Church vests to school, so why should Muslim girls be permitted to wear hijabs to government schools? Everyone should try to be more tolerant, more flexible and less over-zealous.

What is wrong in wearing a headscarf in government schools that is entrenched in the right of religion? My dear, the world has moved on from this parochial and unidirectional view of issues. The morning assembly is riddled with Christian rites, Muslims never complain. Muslims are forced to buy songs of praise, they never complain. But you are quick to attack Muslims because of headscarf. Who cares if Babalawos daughters dress with opele-laced uniform, as long she is not infringing on other pupils rights.

thats not the point,
point is those students are youngsters growing up, and seeing the way their parents react to hijah, abi nah hijab.
its fuels, a very dangerous atittude on them,

bicos when they become a parents too, they pick it up,

even in a school run by catholics, you wont see student wearing chepsl, and the likes,

so for once those parents should show restrain,
cos not wearing it, is jst for school hours only ,

Muslims and Hypocrisy, Outward religion that does not affect the heart,

Hijab is personal, It should not be imposed on educational institution, Why go to school if you want to stick with you 14 century religion which has brought nothing but pain and woes to the human race

Muharmad was frolicking with Aisha at a tender age regardless of the hijab

The Religion does not affect the heart, it is just external and force

It is called "Imo le", "IMO LILE", Forceful faith

stick to it in your rooms, don't compel others, But that is what momodu did in Mecca

Lets not forget that he was killed by a woman who poisoned him with "Mutton sheep" the woman he forcefully slept with her husband (Newly Married ) after Killing the husband.

atenuje lo pa momodu

Muslim will always deny it

So this people know the rules better than the school, don't combine school rule with Islamic rule. If the school said no wearing of hijab obey it, if u are not satisfied with that you can change your ward to another school that allows that. For Christ sake this is called school UNIFORM meaning everybody must wear this same thing.
People who are clamoring for the use of hijab don't seem to know the meaning of UNIFORM or maybe they know the meaning and they just want to Forment discord and Wahala If they're using constitutional rights as boju boju for this then everyone should be allowed to practice their religious beliefs including Sango,Soponno Oya Ogun Worshippers and the likes .

This makes me sad. This school has been standing for decades, and has not experienced such drama (to the best of my knowledge). It has consistently churned out both Muslim and Christian leaders, who have excelled in whichever field they chose. What suddenly brought attention to a subject that was previously a non-issue?

Islam is the problem.

I have read lots of comments here and if we would be objective...the people pointing fingers at Muslims for being too religious are actually the ones being non tolerant...to start with, you want to force other individuals to see things your way based on in qoute 'law' when u are fully aware that it is purely against their values...no one is forcing everyother person to put one on but you are forcing the to put it off meaning forcing them to change their values...how would you feel if you are being mandated to stop going to church? Not like every one does but if you were forced to stop it wouldn't you feel oppressed?

They wear the hijab for their own values not yours...wearing it in reality don't affect you except that others are less tolerant and less judgemental ...in a sane environment people fight to defend the values of others. If I had a budidst friend and I am a chirstain if I know its against his values to eat cows as a friend its not for me to force him to eat cows but help him eat something else aside cows...this is how to build a respectable society....tolerance is what is missing here and clearly most of everyone here would rather force others to be who they dont want to be rather than tolerate who they truly are and let peace reign .... This is what happens in marriages too...everyone wants to prove their values are supreme and thus impose it on others . pls let's be more tolerant with ourselves. Thank you

As an ISI Alumni, i can boldly say never as such incident ever occurred in the great school before. The school doesn't want any additions to the school uniform. If you want to wear hijab, go to a school that allows it. Its simple really. Its the organization rules. If you are at your office and you suddenly start wearing hijab or a bishop's collar and your boss tells you to stop putting it on at work, will you be writing any organization rights to complain? No. You will simply leave. This goes to both Christians and Muslims. If you do not like the ideals of a place or an organization, you simply take your leave and find somewhere that suits your preference. Bintin laiye o.
By the way another thing we may be overlooking is if some students starts dressing differently from others, it could be a recipe for disaster because segregation will occur. Factions will start to form. They are kids and its too yound to expose them to all these things. Fights can break out when one set of people feel they are better than the others. But when everyone is seen as ONE, togetherness will be the order of the day and everyone will remain happy.
