Henderson played great against Barca in the SF second leg even though he was injured, he still created the first assist that Origi scored. He was better than VVD in that game.

Check out Messi's stats and don't forget that he won the La liga. He had a good overall performance in the ucl and copa del rey. No player was better than Messi last season. His gameplay and techniques went to the highest level that no player, even Ronaldo, has attained. Free kicks, passing/assist, and shot accuracy were god level. Too bad he didn't win the ucl due to barca defence complacency in the second leg and he lost in the copa del rey final. VVD did not win European best award, what he won was the UEFA player of the year. The European footballer of the year is also the same as the Ballon D'or. The voting for UEFA POTY is made by a much smaller pool of voters. That may be one reason for the difference. And it is not always automatic that the winner of UEFA POTY will win FIFA Best or Ballon D'or.

In fact, sometimes the winner of FIFA Best may not win Ballon D'or. That does not mean either is undeserved, it may just indicate that the competition is really close. As it is, VVD may still win the Ballon D'or in December, even though I think Messi deserves it more.

Which conspiracy? VVD did not take Liverpool to champs league glory. Liverpool won by virtue of notable performances from Origi, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Allison in the SF and Final. Mane and Salah in the QF. VVD's outstanding performance was in the second round against Bayern munich. How do you now think this is better than Messi's outstanding performances in the SR, QF and First leg of the SemiFinal. The La Liga that Messi won, he was the main protagonist, so when you combine all of these individual factors, Messi takes the cake, except you are being unobjective.

Many players have won the award without winning any major trophy in the year they won it, case in point, Ronaldinho in 2004, Figo in 2001, Zidane in 2003, CR7 in 2013.

The FIFA Best player is first and foremost, an individual award, and in all honesty, VVD and Messi's performances over the past season are still miles apart.

You did not raise this issue when CR7 won over Ribery on the basis of individual performances even though Ribery won all the most important trophies. I submit that you are just a pained CR7 fan.

Thanks for the reminder. Now tell me, is that not the real rigging. If the voting deadline had been extended in any of the years Messi won, I can only imagine the outrage and furore that will be generated by anti-Messi peeps.

I recall that Messi scored 60 club goals that season while CR7 scored 56goals. It was his qualifiers that tipped the balance in his favour.
