brainhgeek: 1. I've never worked for NEPA, PHCN, TCN, DISCOS or GENCOS. 2.You are suffering not because you are part of the minority who pay their bills. Majority don't pay their bills. That is why you suffer power issues. |

Kanade21: Nigeria is a very peculiar nation with peculiar problems. If this is part of the solution to the lingering power generation, transmission and distribution problem we might just have to key into it.We do not have a choice because if we keep going in circles and beating round the bush we will only get quick fix which are temporary solutions to the problem and at what cost(Total and absolute collapse of the national grid). This sector is a capital intensive investment sector the problem is that there is no real will power to take the bull by the horn to invest seriously in the sector but they want to rip the benefits of the sector over night and it does not work that way. When the going was good we should have embarked on this and now we would have been ripping the benefit of this and be making more investment plans and project execution in this area into the future but no we were going in circles, beating round the bush and refusing to tackle this issue head on. |

Kanade21:Don't expect Nigerians to pay for services they never enjoyed. The DISCOS have to invest first, then we can go from there. But expecting consumers to pay through their noses for darkness, just for the hope of enjoying constant supply of electricity (which may never happen. I think many homes are paying more than they should already, with this estimated billing shiit), it won't happen. Come to think of it, DISCOS are owned by private owners like you and I. Are they charity organizations or why are you expecting poors Nigerians to fund private businesses? I'm aware almost all neighborhoods buy and maintain their transformers. Are they not charitable enough? 1 Like |

Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Nobody: 1:06pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
DeOTR: Then we won't have power for 24/7 for now. We are poor. Therefore let us pay for what we can afford., not what we wish for. We need 80000mw to have power 24/7....that's 160billion dollars for the priviledge. Plus we need 100billion to upgrade and fix the transmission capacity. But since we are poor. Ah, but we weren't poor to pay the high prices GSM companies demanded.... Plus, banks are refusing to finance the DISCOS and GENCOS because many of us don't pay. Unlike in the GSM sector...where you cannot use a phone without paying. |

Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Nobody: 1:09pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
sterlingD: Well, I did not oppose the states generating their power. The issue is, where is the money going to come from? Is it from the states , most of whom cannot afford to pay salaries? Or is it from restrcuturing...which would leave all the states cut off from oil money, except the South SOuth, Imo and Abia?? No matter how we look at it...at the end of the day, we cannot get power 24/7 for less than N30 per kilowatt hours. |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Eddygourdo(m): 1:09pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Kanade21:you are talking nonsense. How do you pass the buck so easily to the consumers when all due diligence hasn't been done to ensure that customer isn't being fleeced. Many people currently pay way above what they are consuming, where has that money gone to. Why don't we have meters so people can know their consumptions. You cannot propose an increase in tarrif to meet production costs when proper metering hasn't been done and fraud is being perpetrated. So Mr power systems propagandist. Metering is a must first before we can even start discussing tarrif hikes. |

Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Nobody: 1:11pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Eddygourdo: If we meter everyone, we are still left with the fact that we pay less than the actual cost of power here. How do we solve that then? I'm not in government, I don't like APC or PDP, and I have a right to my opinons. |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by DeOTR: 1:12pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Kanade21:Don't be deceieved. Even with the little we're generating, it can still give at least, 15 hours straight. Let the DISCOS continue with the estimated billing, the consumers will also continue paying 1/3 of the bill, since everybody no wan get sense. |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Nobody: 1:14pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
DeOTR: No it won't. We are generating 4000mw for about 200million people. 6 hours self is pushing it. Let the DISCOS continue with the estimated billing, the consumers will also continue paying 1/3 of the bill, since everybody no wan get sense. Metering everyone is the way froward. But it still does not solve the cash flow issue. |

Toseenlove:You see...how Nigerians behave. They jump into conclusions and muddle things up... That they are corrupt isn't in doubts but they are a reflection of their society. I worked with them as an intern.....and I earned not one naira....not even dash...So Toseenlove...I am not a thief. Ask anybody you know have interred with phcn whether they earned a dime... That's the more reason why we need to invest in embedded power generation. This kind of mess would not be happening if discos decide to invest in off-grid technologies |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Eddygourdo(m): 1:23pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Kanade21:that's why I mentioned tarrif increase to meet the production costs , thus making it a viable investment decision for investors in the power sector. Nobody will complain about high tarrif if what he/she pays for is what he/she used. A meter will ensure people are able to mange their load needs based on their pocket and pay for only what they consume. Anything other than that is political propaganda of putting the cart before the horse. As much as I agree you have freedom of expression at least use that freedom to educate and promote equitable solutions and not political propaganda |

Kanade21:Who are the "we". All the gsm lines in Nigeria from 2001-2003 was not up to 10m. The telcos make more profit now than they used to. High charges doesn't necessarily translate to higher revenue. Ask Lamborghini wrt ford |

winterfell007:Sir, you think this country riddled with corrupt persons who are in charge of generator importation will go embedded? Hian..... It will work...when we ban generator importation. |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by DeOTR: 1:26pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Kanade21:Not one is averse to increment in electricity tariffs if it will solve the age long problem of constant power failure. All we want is for the DISCOs to make prepaid meters available. That way, even if there's no light, we'll be rest assured that no one is short changing anyone. And any consumer that bypass the meter should be jailed. But no one will make additional sacrifice of paying huge bills for darkness. It won't happen. The consumers buy and maintain transformers from their own pockets. All the DISCOs do is bring the bills and collect money. That's charity taken too far in my opinion. 1 Like |
Re: Darkness pervades the country as national grid collapses again by Nobody: 1:27pm On Nov 09, 2019 |
Agboriotejoye: They did charge high prices, mind you. A SIM card used to cost N10000 They also were able to get loans and whatnot from banks...simply because you cannot use a phone without paying. (Unlike power, where even if metering becomes universal, people will bypass it. ...and it is that uncertainty regarding funding that is preventing power companies from accessing financing...except what little grants they can scrounge from government and donor agencies) |
