Chew raw onions. This will localize the venom to only the spot that was bitten. Alternatively, cut lime and drink half while attaching the remaining half to the spot. It will sick out the venom. Ginger paste application can also do the job. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

You can grind charcoal, add some quantity to a glass of water and drink. It neutralises any kind of poison. Bitter Kola neutralises poison as well. 10 Likes 1 Share |

https://www.africansnakebiteinstitute.com/snakebite/ Snakebite Symptoms Snakebite symptoms vary dramatically from bite to bite. Many snakebites take place so quickly that victims are not always certain that they have actually been bitten. A bite mark is seldom the characteristic two-fang puncture mark – more frequently, a bite will be from a single fang and will just be a scratch with a little bleeding. In the event of a snakebite, the victim may have some of the following symptoms – An immediate burning pain, followed by swelling, which progresses up the limb and may affect the lymph glands (the Puff Adder and the Mozambique Spitting Cobra). – Dizziness, difficulty in swallowing and breathing, drooping eyelids and nausea (the mambas and the Cape Cobra). – Bleeding from the nose, small cuts, followed by bleeding from the mucous membranes and, after several hours, severe internal bleeding (the Boomslang and the Twig Snake). – Shock, which can cause nausea, pain and difficulty in breathing. In the Event of A Snakebite DO NOT… – DO NOT try to cut or suck out the venom Snake venom very quickly attaches to the local tissue and is absorbed into the lymphatic system and very little venom can be removed by suction. Cutting may expose the wound to secondary infection. – DO NOT apply any electric shock therapy Electric shocks do not neutralise snake venom. – DO NOT apply a tourniquet Arterial or venous tourniquets are not advised in most bites as venom is initially transported largely through the lymphatic system and not through veins. There is no evidence that a tourniquet could be life-saving following a snakebite. – DO NOT apply ice or warm water, lotion or potions Leave the bite site alone, except for cleaning it with cool water and applying a sterile gauze dressing. Warm water does not denature snake venom. Do not give the victim alcohol. – DO NOT inject antivenom as a first aid measure If required, antivenom must be injected intravenously by a medical doctor in a hospital environment and usually in large quantities. Anaphylactic shock can be a serious side-effect which may be fatal if not treated promptly. First Aid Measures for Snakebite – Get the victim to a hospital as soon as possible and in a safe manner Keep the numbers of the closest hospital (with a trauma unit) and ambulance service on your cell phone and call ahead to notify them of the victim’s situation. The navigational App Waze is very handy – type in ‘hospital’ or ‘doctor’ and the closest facilities will be listed immediately with details. – Keep the victim calm and as still as possible Muscle contractions speed up the movement of venom in the lymphatic system. Immobilise the victim, lay the victim down if possible and transport (or arrange transport) to the closest hospital. Elevate the affected limb slightly above heart level. – Remove rings and tight clothing If bitten on the hand, arm, foot, or lower leg, remove rings, bangles, bracelets, watches, anklets and any other tight jewellery, as well as tight clothing and shoes. – Apply pressure bandages If you are more than an hour or two from the closest medical facility, consider applying pressure bandages to the affected limb, but only in suspected Mamba or Cape Cobra bites. Please see section on Smart Bandages. IMPORTANT Do not waste valuable time applying a pressure bandage – immediately transport the patient to the nearest hospital with a trauma unit and, if possible, apply the pressure bandage whilst travelling. 10 Likes |

dawnomike: 1 and 2 are old school and don't work. 3 is an old wives' tale. @Op. Sit the person down comfortably and calmly with the bitten area as low below his heart as possible. No alcohol, no running around, no shouting commands at him, and no excitement as all these will make his heart pump the poison faster through his body. Then get him to a hospital in that state. If you keep the patient calm, you have like 2-3 hours minimum to get him to a hospital; depending on how well the snake bit him and the type of snake. If you can identify the snake, do so; but don't waste time trying to catch it for identification, it's not that important. 5 Likes |

If I want to be religious, I would say. Start praying and casting immediately. If you know the snake is not venomous, treat as a puncture wound. Move the person beyond striking distance of the snake. Have the person lie down with wound below the heart. Keep the person calm and at rest, remaining as still as possible to keep venom from spreading. Cover the wound with loose, sterile bandage. Remove any jewelry from the area that was bitten. Remove shoes if the leg or foot was bitten. Do not: Cut a bite wound or Attempt to suck out venom. Apply tourniquet, ice, or water Give the person alcohol or caffeinated drinks or any other medications. Then rush to hospital. But let's wait for native methods our forefathers used. |

1) Calm the victim, panic will increase heart beat rate consequently increasing spread of venom 2) Immobilize the victim, Splint the leg, if the bite is on the leg. 3) Do not suck out any venom or wrap any cloth near the wound. It worsens the situation. 4) Do not waste time by going to a snake charmer. Don't be stupid. 5) No ice or any cooling action. It is more harmful than you think 6) No incision on the bite site or mouth suction- fruitless and useless. 7) There are no first aid remedies, only anti venom serum is the only proven solution. Do no waste time performing movie tricks on victim. Rush victim to nearest hospital in relaxed position, splinted arm, leg or mediumly firm bandage round bite site. 2 Likes

Donald95:If possible, take these steps while waiting for medical help: Move beyond the snake's striking distance. Remain still and calm to help slow the spread of venom. Remove jewelry and tight clothing before you start to swell. Position yourself, if possible, so that the bite is at or below the level of your heart. Clean the wound with soap and water. Cover it with a clean, dry dressing. Caution Don't use a tourniquet or apply ice. Don't cut the wound or attempt to remove the venom. Don't drink caffeine or alcohol, which could speed your body's absorption of venom. Don't try to capture the snake. Try to remember its color and shape so that you can describe it, which will help in your treatment. If you have a smartphone with you and it won't delay your getting help, take a picture of the snake from a safe distance to help with identification. |

I was traveling with a friend when he became pressed and decided to use the bush to relieve himself, that was how he ran out that a snake has bitten him. As we were contemplating on what to do a man came out of one of the villages nearby and we explained our predicament to him. He entered the bush and came out with a plantain leave, the top soft newly grown part of the leave. He then cut the middle stuck and gave it to my friend to continue sucking it and should be swallowing the liquid. He now went inside the bush again and came out with live tolls (those ones that look like snail but are smaller, the ones we use to play with when we were in primary school), he started using the fleshy part of the small snail (tolls) to rub the position of the bite continously. At a time my friend wanted to vomit but he continued encouraging him to suck hard and swallow. After about 30mins my friend became stable, we then thank him as he rejected our monetary offer. Up till now my friend didn't bother to see a doctor despite my advice for him to do so 20 Likes 1 Share |

Donald95: I am an alternative medicine practitioner in Ghana and treating venomous snake bites is easy with herbs. You can use the following herbs 1) Acalypa indica Leaf paste applied over the bitten part or paste smeared on spot of bite 3 to 4 days of this would clear any venom of any snake and heal the puncture 2) Achyranthes aspera whole plant extract or root extract is given orally. 3) Aegle marmelos Decoction/extract (twice a day up to 5 days) of the leaves is given orally or root bark extract is administered internally for every 4 hours up to 3 days. 4) Alangium salvifolium About 15 g of bark, ground with 10 to 12 black peppers and mixed with 60 g animal fat, is given every 2 hours to cure snakebite. The Root bark decoction is given internally to treat. 5) Allium sativum Bulb is made into paste and given orally. 6) Andrographis echioides Nees Paste of whole plant is given orally with water. It is also applied externally. 7) Andrographis lineate Paste of leaves is applied externally. About 30 g of whole plant paste is directly administered orally. 8 ) Aristolochia bracteolate Leaves paste applied externally as well as infusion is taken orally. 9) Aristolochia indica Fresh roots are grounded along with rouwalfia serpentina mixed in water taken twice daily for 3 days. The Root powder is snuffed, root juice is given orally and root paste applied locally. 10) Aristolochia tagala root Crushed, mixed with water and drunk as well as fresh roots are grounded and applied externally on affected portion. There are many more plants you can use and i cannot list them all but do note that the above handles any kind of venomous bite of any snake. Just make sure you apply them within a space of 5 to 10mins after the bite maximum. Also ensure you have a tourniquet tied above the place one has been bitten while preparing these herbs to avoid a speedy intravenous movement of the venom to essential organs. 11 Likes 4 Shares |

First Aid for Snake bite and Scorpion Sting. AIM IS TO REDUCE THE VENOM MOVEMENT 1. Dont be frightened/Afraid (IMPORTANT) After the bite/sting, when you get frightened, the venom moves faster and remember it goes straight into the heart. 2. Don't breathe too fast and deep. Take slow and shallow breaths ti prevent the venom moving fast. 3. Don't allow the victim to be moving himself or herself also to reduce the venom movement. 4. ALSO IMPORTANT: Tie something to the upper part of the affected area and loosen at intervals to allow little blood movement 5. Wash the affected part immediately with a disinfectant. 6. If possible, try making an incision around the area to allow the blood mixed with venom come out And move the person to the hospital 1 Like |
