Last week a couple of labourers killed a puff adder which triggered a conversation between myself and a Kenyan guy around.

We talked about what to do if bitten by a snake.

I said they key thing is to be able to identify the type of snake that bit you. This will help the hospital know what anti-venom to use.

The kenyan man said in his country, if a snake bites you, you run after it to bite you again. He says the second bite neutralises the initial one.

Please do we have a willing test subject to try this or can anyone confirm this?

sucking out venom? Hahaha that's just a dumbads theory (pardon me) first...depends on the snake...venom circulation travels around the body once bitten.

In a case of snake bite, simply lie the victim down and relaese every tight fitting apparels such as belts, tie, shoes. Give the victim some quantity of milk to drink. Then you wash the bite spot with soap and water. Tie wit a clean bandage and finally take the victim to the nearest hospital where the doctors will administer the appropriate anti-venin drug.

I advise you to contact who has snake venom or hospital. I interacted with a veterinarian sometime ago and he told me that in Abuja, there are no more than 5 places you can get antivenom. shocked

Most Hospitals do no have it!!!

It is available in Kuje, Dutse

Get snake repelant liquid.
Very strong smell. Spray it round your house,entrance. Only the smell go drive away snakes from your side

Snake bite killed my friend's younger bro in a short while cos the boy was too far away from medical attentn. So pls lets b serious here.

Keep the person as calm as possible. Anxiety increases heart rate and increased heart rate will circulate the venom faster to all part of the body. kiss
Keep the part lower to decrease the circulation of the venom.
Tying of a tourniquet is no longer recommended as the part may lack blood supply and die.

If it is a poisonous snake, get a sharp machete and hack that part off.

GET TO A TEACHING HOSPITAL OR THE BIGGEST HOSPITAL IN YOUR STATE FOR ANTI-VENOM IF YOU GET BITTEN.
PAY WHATEVER YOU ARE TOLD TO...... NO BARGAIN.
WITH ULTRA POISONOUS SNAKES LIKE boomslangs, spitting cobra, puff adder etc, YOU MAY HAVE ONLY MINUTES TO LIVE.


This is the only option ..

WHAT NOT TO DO
• Do not place any ice or cooling element on the bite; this will make removing the venom with suction more difficult.
• Do not tie a bandage or a tourniquet too tightly. If used incorrectly, a tourniquet can cut blood flow completely and damage the limb.
• Do not make any incision on or around the wound in an attempt to remove the venom—there is danger of infection.
• Do not attempt to suck out the venom. You do not want it in your mouth, where it might enter your bloodstream.

Was bitten by a centipede last night while alseep and I was really scared also

Thank God it wasn't life threatening

Was afraid that it was a snake

I used hot water to massage the spot to neutralize the venom (because i reseached that night that venom are not heat resistant) but them I very was feverish immediately and felt serious heart palpation

But for snake I don't know


As for that dude that say drink kerosene should be careful of the advice they give on this platform

Firstly, check if the person was bitten by a venomous snake (happened to my brother, story for another day lol).
If the person is bitten on the foot, tie ABOVE the foot. Make sure the victim takes deep breaths, this will help him calm down to prevent the venom from spreading. Pour alcohol on the site, rinse your mouth with alcohol, and suck on the site, and SPIT NOT SWALLOW, SPIT NOT SWALLOW! Then you CARRY the person to a vehicle and take him to a hospital for proper treatment.

It was late at night, when everyone was asleep that the poison started moving from my leg to my chest. If not for kerosene, I would've been gone.

The next morning, treatment commenced by a traditional healer. Thank God for life.

Is kerosine not dangerous to drink?

I was traveling with a friend when he became pressed and decided to use the bush to relieve himself, that was how he ran out that a snake has bitten him.
As we were contemplating what what to do a local man came out of one village nearby and we explained our predicament to him.
He enter the bush and came out with a plantain leave, the top soft new growth part of the leave, he cut the middle stuck out and gave to my friend to continue sucking it and be swallowing the liquid.
He now went inside the bush again and came out with live tolls (those one that look like snail but are smaller, the ones we use to play when we were in primary school) he started using the flesh of the small snail (tolls) to rub the position of the bite continously.
At a time my friend wanted to vomit but he continued encouraging him to suck hard and swallow.
After about 30mins my friend became stable, we then thank him as he rejected our monetary offer.
Up till now my friend didn't bother to see a doctor despite my advice for him to do so
maybe he was bitten by a nonvenomous snake

First and foremost, tested and trusted in the Eastern parts of Nigeria, give the victim 3 tablespoonfuls of unadulterated palm oil, making sure s/he is calm, with bite site lower than the heart level.

Take the nearest teaching/FMC/General /reputable private hospital. Expectedly, they should have antivenom, tetanus shots, proper medicare, etc.

If the snake � is still in vicinity, someone should quickly take a photo for easier identification for anti venom.

I might agree with you a little because it's quite expensive to get and cases hardly come up, so the antivenom gets expired and has to be replaced most times. But any hospital that is serious ought to have at least 2 at every time because it's not rocket science to source for it........it's available

Rattlesnake is on a different plane when it comes to poisonous snakes.

You can start comparing rattlesnakes to king cobras in the potency of their deadly venoms.
Rattlesnake venom isn't even very deadly. You can actually survive a rattlesnake envenomation without seeing a doctor.
