Nigeria is the devils abode
A place inhabited by Buhari and Kyari

Run away from the shithole...
If you die here... It's hell straight

I guess you don’t even know my background. I spent the first 21years of my life in Nigeria( and my current age is below 25). My Uncle could not get a job many years after graduation. We’ve been homeless in the past. One of my uncles lost his investments to govt recklessness. My family and I have lived in slums and villages(I’ve experienced Nigeria at its worst) but Nigeria is forever our home and we will forever love it.

We love Nigeria not because of its political leaders or its difficult environment but because of its people, the Naija spirit and culture. When I was in Nigeria, I also had this mentality that if I get the opportunity to travel out of the country, I will never look back again. I was wrong! A few months after I left, I began to miss the country - so much so that I had to return to spend some time home. Nigeria has its enormous challenges but even America and other Western countries are not perfect as well.

Living abroad will make you understand that Nigeria should be better than many of these Western countries if it properly harnesses its human capital and natural resources.

Should be ....not will be is the reason why people try to run.

[s]Some people who have suffered enough in this country wouldn't mind staying away from Nigeria for a lifetime..

You are just yaning opata like this because you even had the privilege to travel out in the first place.

I'm sure your view would be different if there wasn't any possibility of you ever traveling out of Nigeria[/s]

After visiting over 25 countries, I can only shake my head in disappointment when I see fellow Nigerians try to undermine their heritage.

They don't understand.

I know Nigerians abroad who have not stepped a foot in Nigeria 20 years after they left. Many of whose children have never come home.

I can't see myself just leaving and staying long outside Nigeria... it will be insane for me really!

I remember after staying a year plus for the first time... there will be noday i won't tune in to Nigeria radio...
I miss the "obey" classic music and the trending ones as it makes me feel very nostalgic.

I forced myself just to come spend 3 months and after i left again i couldn't just stay... the smell of being in Nigeria is everything for me.

Joshua is planning to run for President. And the way he is connecting to grassroots, he will win like George Weah. If you know, you know cheesy.

Well said.

Only a foolish child uses his left hand to point to his father's compound. This goes to all those blindly following Trump's rhetoric to refer to their fatherland as a shithole, shame on you all.

Truth be told, no true Nigerian can ever turn his back on his country, no matter how underdeveloped it has become...

I keep telling them... You can never gain complete acceptance outside this nation. That Green card or Citizenship whatever will never gloss over the fact that you don't truly belong, and will never fully belong!!!

Nice one Josh, nobody hates Naija, It's annoying to see this country in a mess when you realise it holds so much promise with huge potential under the right leadership..

If you no wise for Nigeria, you no fit wise for any country. What I will say is being a Nigeria gives you the strongest spirit of hope that you can make it anywhere in the world. When you leave Nigeria for other countries what comes to your mind is if I could suffer in Nigeria and escape suffering, why can't I escape suffering any country I go and move into enjoyment. Nigeria as a country might be one of the worst country in the world but believe me the spirit of Nigeria keeps every Nigerian outside Nigeria moving forward, which means every bad situation in life has it's good side.

His purchase power, after a foreign exchange conversion to naira, multiplies several times over. This might be one of the lesser known reasons for his stay. Also, for some strange reason, Africa remains immune to the coronavirus.

There are 3 reasons why we cannot detach from Nigeria

1) because it's home and this is where you have an identity, friends and family. Abroad friends and family are too busy hustling and too busy resting during weekends.

2) lawlessness. Whether we want to accept it or not, one of the things that makes us "love" Nigeria is that we are naturally a lawless chaotic people who who are uncomfotable following the rules. For example, in Nigeria you can overtake a police car, they wont stop you...Nigeria Police dont know any offence like speeding, all Nigerian police are interested is particulars, C-caution and extinguisher. Abroad you live in fear of police cars, getting fines or getting banned from Driving. Passport? No problem, Drivig License? no problem....And furthermore when you fall foul of the law abroad, there is nobody to call or beg. Nigeria gives us a platform to indulge in our naturally lawless nature. Many Nigerians struggle abroad because we are not conditioned to obey rules and laws. Also In Nigeria if you are self employed most wont pay income taxes.

3) Poverty. Your small money goes a long way in Nigeria, you have small money and the poverty that surrounds you makes you feel like a king/queen. You can afford houseboy/driver/cooks etc. Dem no born you abroad...everything you have to do yourself!!! The poverty in Nigeria massages your ego. Here with peanuts, every makes you feel like you are important, because there are too many hungry people looking for a handout. Nigerians want people to know and massage their egos when they have money, but abroad, if you like have $100m in your account abroad, nobody send you, you are just another face in the crowd.

Most people will claim no 1 above as the reason they miss Nigeria and while it is a big factor, Truth is found more in nos 2 and 3.

Kindly excuse all these young kids on Niaraland dreaming and crying about leaving Nigeria for good. Until you have tried something, most would not understand.
It's like wondering why a man will divorce a very beautiful wife. It's simply because you have not been with that same woman. Once you have had her for some years, all the dreaming and euphoria can wear out.
Same thing with traveling out, after so many years, a vast majority will miss home. Yes, some will never come back but that's not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Even in Nigeria you can easily find other Nationalities that have made Nigeria home for the rest of their lives.
For me, as crazy as Nigeria is, I still love it, and I actually feel much safer in Lagos than I feel in the US.
