It was not chicken change

The official exchange rate valued the Naira more than the dollar.

A bottle of coke was 30 kobo,
A Peugeot 504 was about 12000

The National budget was 10 billion

It was not error but deliberate persecution

He was tried by a military tribunal

He was tried by major General buhari tribunal.

At first, buhari shouldn't have pardon him because at the end it has back fire on him.

The family still maintain that AA never stole. If you go to old bendel edo and delta today, he's legacy still stand. He built the first state university in Nigeria. Network of roads are still there till today in those two state.
He was a visionary man but one man from daura doesn't really like positive or growth but destruction.

History wrote is story
Political career
Following his academic posts, he was elected the Governor of Bendel state, and later founded "Bendel state University" now "Ambrose Alli University", Ekpoma.
Many campuses in Ekpoma, Abraka and Asaba were established during his tenure. However, with the
creation of Delta State by the administration of Gen.
Babangida, the University became two Universities,
namely Delta State University, Abraka and Ambrose
Alli
University, Ekpoma, posthumously named after him.
Ambrose Alli was a member of the constituent
assembly that drafted the 1978 Nigeria constitution.
He
joined the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and ran
successfully as UPN candidate in the Bendel State
governorship election of 1979. He brought massive
development to Bendel in different sectors, from the
establishment of numerous post-primary schools and
tertiary institutions, and massive construction of
roads
and housing. His main thrust as governor was to
increase educational opportunities. He established
over
600 new secondary schools, and abolished secondary
school fees. Apart from the establishment of the
University, he also established various colleges of
Education in Ekiadolor near Benin City, Agbor, Warri,
Ozoro and Agbor, and three Polytechnics, with a
college
of agriculture and fishery proposed for Agenebode. He
also established four teachers training colleges to
supply staff to the new schools, as well as several
other
higher educational institutions. In 1981 he laid the
foundation of the Bendel State University, which is
now
named the Ambrose Alli University , Ekpoma . Other
reforms included abolishing charges for services and
drugs at state-owned hospitals and eliminating the
flat-
rate tax. [1] His administration carried out massive
construction of roads to open up the rural areas. [2] In
the housing sector he built low cost housing estates in
Ugbowo, Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, and Bendel Estates
in
Warri. As Governor, he always wore sandals, joking
that
he was so busy working in Government House that he
never had time to buy shoes for himself. [3]
Later career
When Ambrose Alli left office in 1983, he retired to his
family house. [2] After the military government of
Major-
General Muhammadu Buhari took power, he was
sentenced to 100 years in prison by a military tribunal
for allegedly misappropriating N983,000 in funds for a
road project. He was later freed when the Esama of
Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion , paid a fine to the
government. [4]
Death
Shortly after being released from prison, Ambrose
Folorunsho Alli died on his 60th birthday on 22
September 1989, at the Lagos University Teaching
Hospital in Lagos . An annual Distinguished
Leadership
Lecture was later established in his honour.

Was the tribunal that convicted him have any legitimacy in the first instance? Did they come to power using legitimate means?

You re correct. But if he was persecuted that means his family can make claims since Buhari is now in a democratic regime and I know he will realize he abused power that time.

Prosecution is persecution in Nigeria, all the time. If I have lied, ask PDP thieves on trial

In Alli's case he was tried under a Decree enacted in 1984 by Buhari for an offence committed allegedly in 1983.
The NBA boycotted the trial on the grounds that it was unconstitutional and so he had no legal representation.
There is no comparison between that and trial today.

He should have been tried by the regular courts

Bigot Buhari equally locked VP Ekwueme in kirikiri prison and placed President Shagari under house arrest. Feeding his brother at home.

The Tribunal found out Ekwueme was poorer than he was before he was VP.

Well, Ekwueme does not need your pardon as he had pardoned you for your bigotry before his demise.

Useless pardon by a tyrant religious and ethnic bigot

Confused man.

Your family doesnt believe your father was guilty yet you are thanking Buahri for the pardon.

If you accept the fraudulent pardon then you have accepted your to be guilty as charged.

I expect the family to rejecty the pardon as it has no effect.

A lot of Nigerians are their own problem, too much eye service for financial gain.

The same tribal bigot that convicted him falsely, has now pardon him.

Wicked soul
Alli built a university at Ekpoma his hometown.

With a satellite campus at Abraka that is now
Delta State university. It has educated tens of thousands since.

Oshiomhole built a quasi private university for the elite in his village. Calling it Edo University to bamboozle zombies.

Alli did not build palatial mansions at Ekpoma like Oshiomhole built at Iyamho. Yet some arseholes will tell us the 2nd Republic politicians were more corrupt.

No money was ever found in Allli's account. The most was the allegation that the company doing Ekiadolor to Ovia Road paid UPN some campaign money.

Alli coming from Academia didn't know the corrupt ways of career politicians and civil servants. He fell a victim.

Buhari's ethic bigotry did the rest.

Sentenced hundred years imprisonment for misappropriating N983,000.

If today's politicians are to be judged on the same ground a sentence of life imprisonment won't be enough to expiate their crimes.
