Time to get rid of that dog.. Except you dont have small children around..
Can you guarantee that a child will not playfully step on that Dog's tail in the future... or beat it..

That Dog is a waiting time bomb. Google the rate of pitbull and rott attacks on humans in the US and you will be convinced .. the victims are usually the owners of the dogs or their children..

Get rid of that dog, I repeat ..

Dog Lovers, Please I Need Advise On My Rott's Naughty Behavior

I have a one and a half year old Rottweiler named Gift and I don't understand him anymore. We can't chastise him again when he misbehaves because he bares his teeth and growls menacingly at us if we try to spank him for being naughty. He welcomes us when we come home like any loyal, loving pet, but yesterday he shocked me. Usually as we are about to enter the house he playfully holds one foot down so we can't enter, or he jumps on you and hugs you tight so you can't move. When I got back from work yesterday I was exhausted and I didn't have energy for his play so I hugged him briefly but as I entered the house I mistakenly stepped on his right hindpaw.

He howled, left me, and lunged at me, this time to bite me. He actually narrowly missed my arm.

I was mad. I turned and yelled "Gift are you mad?" He bared his fangs and barked at me. Me sef I bared my teeth at him and ordered him to stand down. He growled, me sef I growled back. Do you know this dog kept advancing menacingly at me and barking? I quickly borrowed myself brain and locked the door. Werey dog.

I can't shoo Matilda, my chicken in his presence. He covers her with his body and warns me away. And now, the most perplexing thing is he now marking every where in the compound. My sib came visiting and before he entered the house, he quickly relieved himself outside because he was very pressed. Do you know Gift went to where the dude urinated and peed on top? It has gotten so bad now that Gift entered the house and marked different sections of the corridor and smaller dining area with pee.

Now, I don't know if this is classic Rott behavior or if he is just being indisciplined. I confess we spoilt him a bit because he is such a sweet animal when he is not misbehaving.

How do we discipline a dog that has grown wings? He is well socialised so it's not a case of too much isolation.

How about you get a veterinary Doctor to examine the dog.

BTW, How is Matilda doing now. And what are the names of your other chickens.

OP, you love the dog. I get it. I'm a dog person. But, you see Rotts in general, I believe once you've missed the opportunity of showing you are head of the pack, one day, it might kill your child. Do the right thing, put that dog down. DO NOT SELL IT. Put it down to sleep, or there might be mourning someday.

That's cannibalism, bro. I can't eat my family member.
He's not family, he's a pet.
You are human, he's an animal, an edible one at that.
We raise chicken and eat them, raise catfish and eat them, we look at the lovely eyes of a rabbit and pronounce him afternoon meal.
Is eating goat raise in your compound cannibalism?

Not to sound sexist.

But majority of women that are forming single and independent who want to raise fully grown men cannot handle dogs.

Going by the comments, I am ashamed. I have never used a stick or broom or wire on any dog living with me. Whether it is mine or that of a friend.

Even if it's a mature dog that the owner leaves in my care. Firstly, in my space, I show it where to sleep. If it shows signs of rebellion, I would stand up with a big stick in hand and walk up to the dog and stare it down whilst emphasizing where I want it to go till it backs down. In a new territory, dogs will always be subservient. I rewards good behaviour with displays of affection.

As for food, if the dog tries to jump at the food while still in my hand, the trailer of hunger don jam you be that. I will take my food away.

Be stern and firm, and reward good behaviours. If you cannot be firm with a dog then get a teddy bear instead. An animal is an animal.

Put it down if you can no longer manage it.

To train a child is a big stress, now adding a dog to it. Risking your children's life because you wan turn to Oyinbo. Na Oyinbo I know wey dey love animals like children, but Africans must copy. People are starting to own cats now sef. I pity all of you, be romancing dogs enh,be copying white people. I won't pity you when the dog harms you or your family member.

The time you used for disturbing your brain with yeye dog behaviour, you can invest it in your children, by monitoring their behaviour, read child psychology books. If I should ask most of you, what psyche stage is your child, you probably don't know.
At every childs stage, there are things to do for each child to bringforth some behaviors or erase some behaviors. Most bad temperaments starts from early childhood, as well as some adults behaviors that are as a result of some things as early as when the child is a year's old. Men just want to be naturally useless and give all the parenting role to mothers.
Buy psychology books and read about your child, I'm tired of seeing stingy adults, people that can't be contended, sluts, heart breakers, criminals, it all starts from the HOME and early childhood. Don't be a useless parent and later start blaming witches and wizards if your child start misbehaving, or blaming it on TEENHOOD. Children nowadays could start smoking, thanks to exposure to sites like Nairaland if not well monitored, they can start thinking their gays, lesbians etc. Some Agbaya on NL is busy promoting smoking, protect your child from such people through good monitoring, discipline and training.

Rottweiler is among the top 10 most dangerous breeds. It also sits on top of the list.

Almost half of death caused by dog attacks in the US are reported to be caused by them.

You had your work cut out from the day you bought it. I am sure its not too late but I think you should be very careful, especially about not letting it get hungry. They say, "there is no bad dog, just bad owners". All dogs have teeth and can bite! The training and breed mix is what keeps them from indiscriminate biting.

Someone I know was mauled by his 3 dogs last year because they were left hungry more than the usual. The 3 dogs attacked him like they planned to do it.

A Caucasian for example is one dog I wil not keep. These breeds are so temperamental but Nigerians especially don't do due diligence in keeping them, so they are mostly aggressive.

The day my dog(s) growl and challenge me, is his/her last day on earth.
You can growl and get punished of course. But never challenge me.
Am the one feeding you.

Once you growl mistakenly at me, straight to the cage. No food and water, till am satisfied.

Any dog that challenges its master will eventually fight/bite/kill its master.

Sometime ago, when I was still very young, and one of our dogs challenged a familiar face, biting him in the process despite shouts calling him to order.

My uncle just sentenced the dog to death.
We all cried, but no room for appeal. My cousin carried the dog to the gallows (Calabar kitchen). That was its end.

I have a self willed Rott too. A year and a month now..... I started displaying dominance right from he was younger.. I got him at 3months. I flogged the day light out of him when he behaved bad. I see dogs as kids and you beat kids in Africa to shape em.. If done properly, they won't lash at you.

My rott recovered from parvo virus a week ago and his aggression seemed to grow. I was trying to give him his pill and I just heard growling from him... Next thing that happened was a beat down.. Oga calmed down and opened his mouth like a good dog.

I think you haven't been very disciplined with him right from when he was young.. No spare the rod.. Tie him down and flog the bonkers out of him next time her grows or tries to bite you. Let him know its a reaction to that aggression towards you. My dog knows that if I let someone into the house and he's still being aggressive, na to chain am

There's a thin line between beating a dog and abusing

Dog training is about strategies and not gender. You must not bring sexism into everything. Many dog schools here in North America are run by women so what's your point? You guys always look for every chance to reduce the female folks to nothingness.

I tell people when u let a dog become part of your household, always make them get used to a leach(neck rope) ...they are animals and are unpredictable and tieing their neck is way to tame them down,,my dog should be a year old now

When ever I hold his neck she happily gives me her neck to put it on , because I always give her a treat for dat ,even after flogging her ,I still give her a treat ,

I find it difficulty to understand when People tell me my dog will bite me when ever I put rope on his neck ,
Some dog user can't even bath their dog , because of he will bite me ,,,a dog is like train a child and when he is old he will not depart

I take my dog for a walk when it's raining ,so that wen ever they are lost ,they don't get scared of walking down home in the rain ,
I have met lots of dog that go and hid wen it's raining

I swear.. Same thing. I have a year old Rottweiler too and he's super trained. I got to know he was super obedient when the vet came for the first time four days to inject and drip him cos he had parvo virus..... Even when my dog got stronger.... He'd maintain that position all day until he's done with three drips. He never even attacked the vet doctor. The doc was even surprised at his level of obedience and was even praising us.

Every time we played, I never let him top. He knows he's the beta in the house and oh.. He's an indoor dog. If he needs to poo, he brings his belt to anyone so we'd take him out.

I was trying to force feed his drug to him last week, something he didn't like and heard baba growl.. Gbas gbos, four mighty slaps, baba complied.

It's all about their formative years sha. Khal no dare Lass at anyone at home... He knows what's gon happen next. Lol
