My Igbo brothers and sisters, please ignore the urge to attack different groups. It serves no purpose, because everyone has their own mind. The best thing you can do is attack a person personally. Those who hide behind a group identity should not be worth your time. |

Aigbofa: Sorry, but Nigeria is holding my people back and I will continue to believe that. We have been able to achieve much, but it is still not good enough. That is why I support the Ndi Igbo having their own nation. I have no problem with any other groups and I give respect to those who are different from me. Maybe you can learn from my philosophy. 1 Like |

babapupa: Fortunately Aba has more industries than Ogun State. The Aba shoe industry alone remains Nigeria's largest industrial cluster. I had to come in to address your unnecessary envy.We need to acknowledge an achiever wherever he comes from as long as he is our fellow human. What our (Igbo) fathers accomplished is commendable and should not cause you sleepless nights. |

babapupa: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gawd, una wan Kill me with Laughter!!!! I did my Youth service in Ogun state. Are you talking of Abeokuta or Idi roko? Where are you talking about in Ogun state? LOL! Which other states in the western region gat the Super factories that are bigger than all the factories in Igbo land. Well, you have not answered why Yorubas and Hausas remained backwards despite winning the war and dominating leadership. |

babapupa: Kai, people can lie, Pls can you name the factories in Ogun let me name those in Anambra and Aba. And common sense will tell that the reason why factories are cited in Ogun is because of its close proximity to lagos. Are those factories owned by yoruba people alone? |
Re: Don't The Igbos Deserve A Round Of Applause? by ektbear: 8:04am On Jan 11, 2011 |
Aigbofa, other Yoruba here, there is no point in discussing like this. Who cares, really? The main thing is to learn from the good things that others have done and use it for self improvement. I want to see Yoruba leave home more frequently, for example. Venture out of Lagos and the SW more frequently. Abuja is a very rich land. I'm encouraged to see that lots of Yoruba have realized this, but I want to see more of us siezing the abundant opportunities there. Things like that. Back and forth discussions like this aren't useful unless we learn something from it. |

ekt_bear: I think we are kindred spirits. You are cut from the same cloth with our mindset. I want what is best for the Igbo race and you want what is best for the Yoruba race. There is no shame in that. I actually support that. But how long can you demonize someone until people start looking inward? Look at what Hitler did with the Jews, which he used as a scapegoat. That can only go so far. |

THE FULL POTENTIAL of the IGBO is yet to b achieved! The Nigeian political climate is so corrupt and tribalised for an average Igbo. ( no doubt efulefus like Ojo mmaduekwe and lots has joined in the sharing and devouring of the crumbs - that is not Igbo culture or trait at all. It's Taboo and sacrilege in IGBOland to betray a trust) Despite the Igbo achievements , they don't have the mega rich like Yorubas n hausas, which wud need a government political connection and aid. 1.In the 80s the gov made dangote the sole importer of rice and other cookeries by stiffing out competitors like vawswani brother. 2. In the 2000 , obj gave Adenuga a licience even after he had failed to win d bidding for any of the 3 licences that was for sale.( gov had to twit the process by inventing a new licience - 2nd carrier, that part of the reason NITEL is nt sold till today) Now checks Igbo turn. In 2005, IBETO was importing 12 ships of raw cement just like dangote does to his bagging company in ptown, at that same time OBJ was introducing his cement-baggers-must own a local cement company policy.he set the date to and end of a month but gave the importer ok to clear there already stock on the high sea. IBETO quickly bought over nkalagu cement co and was refurblishing it, so as it stood at that time he was even more qualified to import cement than dangote. But wat happened at the end of that said month his licience was withdrawn. Why? OBJ said he still importing when he hasn't completed the purchase of the cement co. But he was nt, there were no knew importation but only what was slowly sailing thru the high sea. Despite pleads OBJ refused. OBJ was willing to have the cement bagging co close down, 2. over 300 worker lose their job, 3. his stock -over 8 ships as 4 had been cleared , to b destroyed or auctioned off. 4. The man had stroke OBJ didn't care. 5. This was some bank loan which needed servicing- yet obj didn't bulge, despite cement prizes skyrocketing. What was his real crime - being an IGBO. What a shame. Anybody remember SLOK airlines? 1 Like |

Aigbofa: No we won't be like Gambia and Gabon. Unlike other African countries and ethnicities that have gone to war Igbos have taken there rightful place in non political scheme of things. No African country can beat that. |

I think Eku or dapo-bear is an intelligent guy and I always take his contributions serious. He is the true representation of the class of Yoruba I have mingled with.Same goes with Ndu chucks and alj harem for the north.Constructive contributions with one or two leg pulling is ok. |
Re: Don't The Igbos Deserve A Round Of Applause? by Justcash(m): 8:18am On Jan 11, 2011 |
Well, On my part, I am not attacking any ethnic group. Afterall, at the moment we are all Nigerians. I only wish that the Leaders of the Hausa and Yoruba regions had developed their regions better with the power they had after the civil war. All these regrets and questions would have been totally unnecessary. Imagine if Lagos, Kano, Ogun, Sokoto, Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Ondo, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau etc were beautiful and presentable mega cities, with un-interrupted power supply, good roads, good transport systems etc due to the investment of the Northern and Western dominated government after the war, the Eastern region would develop easily too and the reason for killing them in millions to make them stay would have been justified. Anyway, there is no need crying over spilt milk, just that I never thought of the Poster's question. It indeed needs to be answered. |

Akhenaten: How long can ibos continue to demonize Yorubas before we start to look inward? Let's face it, everything that ails the ibo man is the fault of Yorubas. If you don't believe me, go through all the old threads on Nairaland. |

Ola edo: I dint mean it to be an insult. It just implies that the Western and Northern leaders left their regions backwards despite the power they had. One would have expected something different, considering the level of tribalism at that time. |

@Akhenaten: Your latter point is a good one, there is some danger in creating a scapegoat. But I don't really have much of a choice if so many Yoruba people here are going to rest on past laurels and ignore economic data that is available online and widely available for anyone to read Pisses me off that they are content to rest on their laurels and pretending as if everything is OK. Things are not OK at all. And if some people will need to be frightened into realizing this, so be it. Sputnik did a lot of good for the Americans. Perhaps the Yoruba need the same thing. Sometimes fear can be a good thing, if harnessed appropriately. It is certainly better than foolish complacency. |

I know because I have lived and done business for more than 3 years in both states. I know what I am saying. You can only mention Lagos, and yet Lagos cannot be said to have more factories than the whole of South East. |

Re: Don't The Igbos Deserve A Round Of Applause? by Akhenaten: 8:32am On Jan 11, 2011 |
ekt_bear: And who are the scapegoat that you have in mind to awaken the mighty Yoruba race? Fear is good, when it is channeled into productive means. Fear of Nazi Germany propelled the U.S. to create a large military complex that would be able to defeat the Nazis and Imperial Japan. However, fear can also consume a nation. Just look at what occurred in Yugoslavia amongst the Serbs, Muslims and Croats. |
