Presidency: Tinubu, others should allow South East take its turn – Edwin Clark

ELDER Statesman and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Senator Edwin Clark, said, weekend, that it was uncalled-for and hypocritical for Northern politicians to argue that there was no rotation of power between North and South, as President Muhammdu Buhari presently serving his second term if office, rode to power in 2015 based on the arrangement.

Clark, also the leader of the South-South geo-political zone and Chair, Board of Trustees, BOT, Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, also shot down the presidential ambition of All Progressives Congress, APC, leader from the South-West zone, Alhaji Bola Tinubu, saying, it was the turn of the South-East zone to produce the next president in 2023.

Reacting to the recent comments of former National Security Adviser, Mamman Daura, on some national issues, he said the agreement to rotate Presidency between North and South was reached at the 2014 National Conference attended by over 490 Delegates representing various aspects of the Nigerian public, including professional bodies, trade unions, market women, the physically challenged and the youths. And the essence was to give a sense of belonging to all.

His words: “It is for this reason that some of us are recommending that the South-Eastern part of Nigeria should be allowed to produce the President of the country. It is the turn of Southern Nigeria to produce a President.

“The likes of Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the Southwest zone, a zone which has ruled this country at three different times with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo ruling as Military Head of State and as a democratically elected President, and Chief Ernest Shonekan as Interim National President, should allow the Southeast, which was also part of the three principal regions of Nigeria headed by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe as first President of Nigeria from 1963-1966, the Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Premier of Northern Nigeria, and that of Western Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as heads of the regional governments.”

Tinubu is not a threat to anyone...

If Awolowo who was a Christian and loved by all yorubas could not get it despite his two attempts, is it Tinubu whom some of his people are cursing on the street will actualize such dream ?

Again,It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of niddle than for a Muslim southerner to rule this country under this structure, the same is applicable to northern christians.. They are politically disadvantaged, it's a very sad reality we must swallow.
As for Abiola's case concerning issue of religion, Nigerians were so desperate for democracy to the extent that they were ready to accept anyone as long as democracy will be praticed. Nigerians didn't care about religion unlike what is obtainable today where average Nigerian on the street is so concious of his faith due to religious crisis that has happened in the past and the present as well..

Well said, sir.

But in politics, there must be negotiations and alignments.

At the end of the day, the 'smartest' will carry the day.

How can Tinubu be a threat to a whole Tribe? No wonder they shout his name everyday.

Since 1960, every tribe has been contesting every election without restrictions. It is an open field .

South Easterners should not be scared in contesting against the South Westerners.

*Awolowo lost or was rigged out of two elections
*Abiola won 1993 election even when Ibos voted for Northern candidate because of Ibo vice
*Olusegun Obasanjo won 1999 primaries against Alex Ekwueme, won 2003 general election against Buhari and his Ibo vice

Why are Ibos scared of contesting against Tinubu?

Igbos are not scared to contest against anyone.. What's is good for Adamma is also good for Funke. The two major political parties should zone their tickets to Igbo land like it was done to yorubas in 1999..

This link I sent below has contradicted your opinion about Igbos interest in 2023..

Igbos in Apc are warning up as well

Please don’t cry more than the bereaved sir and leave Asiwaju out of this.

Can somebody in VERY SIMPLE ENGLISH, explain to me how Tinubu, an INDIVIDUAL, is stopping AN ENTIRE ZONE from achieving their aspirations?

Remember, Tinubu is a private citizen holding no elective or appointed position, just like Clerk.

If anything, I think Clerk just insulted the South East.

But your kinsmen are all over the media space saying it is North or Nothing in 2023.

If you think I’m lying create a poll and ask your fellow Ibos to vote whether they want to contest for presidency in 2023 In PDP against the SW in APC OR will declare their full support for a Northerner.

It's SE or North grin

Nobody has time for your ramblings.

Simple question.

Instead of rallying around an uneducated coup-plotter, Why didn't you yarribas present a yarriba candidate to contest against Jonathan?

You should ask why did all of us supported Jonathan in 2011 grin

Please stop all these nonsense.

There has to be a conspiracy going on. If not, why would a thinking being believe that Tinubu is a threat to anybody.

This is the most exhausting thought process I've ever seen people hold.

Gosh!!!

I think Tinubu should allow SE lead the presidency under one condition.

They should present Joe Igbokwe as the consensus candidate of the Ibos.
