they are GOING because of GREED. all AFRICAN countries face this PROBLEM. they pay our DOCTORS around 200 thousand a MONTH, and that's not enough for them? GREED. Ghana knows the problem, so THEY MAKE IT difficult for their DOCTORS to run away!
it's because we subsidise education, and make it cheap to STUDY medicine very CHEAP! it's expensive to study medicine in the Western country. You have to get LOANS to study so you are locked until you pay the debt.

Yes, because Nigerian government subsidizes higher education in general. Higher education is not meant to be cheap if the cost is borne by students, even much more so when it's medicine.

So, they now have to die in poverty while few Nigerians who are in power and their supporters are developing pot bellies? You love it that way? Plus the fact that life expectancy in nosediving seriously?

So tell us what is the main reason your WIFE decided to leave?
Was the salary not enough?

It's SERIOUS WHEN doctors no dey to treat people.
GreenKalada:
People think this is a joke It's a very serious issue. My wife was among the 58 doctors who were refused travel last month, but she finally travelled 2 weeks ago to London by flight with some others provided by their employer. I'm now left with my 2 children hoping to join her soon. I feel bad for this country because what will now happen to the common man out there if all the qualified doctors leave!!

lol. naa. explain how it will be enough. especially if you live in a city like lagos. 200k a month is 2.4m a year. take home will be around 1.6m house rent takes at least 600k. school fees and child expenses takes about 400k. 2 kids. utilities take about 100k. light , water, security , Internet, phone. Healthcare for both parents will take another 100k. how much is left. it works for single people or two spouses that make about the same amount of money for them to have a semblance of life. also cuz of the type of job, they need house helps and possibly cooks if they have kids.

those in IT earn way more than that and they are ain't in high pressure life critical roles.

Can you see what's happening here?

The government of Nigeria subsidizes the training of doctors across the length and breadth of the nation.

Then when they graduate, they zoom off with their knowledge and go serve other countries.

The reason why the western world is short on doctors is because higher education is very very expensive.

The FG has refused to provide a conducive environment for everyone, so in a way, you can't blame the doctors for fleeing.

Eventually, the common man loses because if Nigeria is emptied of medical practitioners, then people like Buhari and Aisha will always go to the UK and Dubai for their medical needs.

The same doctors that ran away from Nigeria will treat them in a saner environment.

Nigeria, shame!
Government doesn't subsidize the training of doctors. I don't know where you got that from. Their tuition fees are one of the highest in the Nigerian educational system. The reason why Nigerian doctors are favored abroad is because they still have to write and pass stringent exams despite our terrible academic system and so when they come abroad they tend to do great. There was once a news here on nairaland about a doctor who used slippers to make a neck brace. Only a Nigerian doctor can improvise with such ingenuity.

i think Nigerians attending Subsidies highly needed trainings like medicine should start signing bond of working locally to 10 years or pay off the cost immediately or attended private university.........

Yes, that would be one way to address this issue,

but the FG should try and provide a conducive environment first then they wouldn't need to bind their citizens with oaths and bonds.

Not only would people stay back at home, (because like it or not, Nigeria has one of the best climate and weather conditions in the world), even citizens from other countries would hustle to come here to study and live and work.

Going to place in the front line fighting a pandemic where they will be paid on time, better infrastructure and electricity, better appreciation, better medical facilities where even the Nigerian president and family members attend.
They should have stayed back in Nigeria, where their minister said they will be better off being tailors.

this is HOW we catch you people. 1.6m is about 140k a month. 600k annual rent is about 55k a month. you are left with 100k a month after deductions. child school fees and the others is only per term, so let's say 50k a term, so that's 100k a year per child. you are left with 1.1m.

what else? utilities na nonsense you dey talk. who pays 100k a month for light? water is free. security? YOU BE king?
you see, you DOCTORS want to live like KINGS. THAT'S THE main problem. you have ENOUGH money. it's is only GREED that's behind this.

people like you always think you know. do you know how much medical education is in the Western world?

you pay 50k dollars a year for the same medical education for 4 to 5 years. that's is around 20 million naira every year!
in Nigeria, you medical fees is not more than 3 million NAIRA a year in private institutions which are even expensive.
