RoyalUc: What are you on about? We are free men who has refused Fulani slavery in Nigeria. You and your ilks on the other hand are slaves who see your chains as jewelleries. You don't even know you are slaves and hence you can't even be helped. No one expect slaves to fight for freedom. If they are capable of fighting for freedom, they wouldn't be slaves to start with, they will be rebels! Nigeria has three class of citizens. The slaves who are comfortable with Nigeria and don't even recognize their slavery status. The rebels who have been waging rebellion since like forever for freedom. And the rulers who promote one Nigeria by shooting the rebels. The joke is on a slave who considers himself better of than rebels. 1 Like |

Ariani: If I understand you properly, the one fighting for freedom is the slave that doesn't want to remain a slave, right? Since you are the one fighting for freedom, you are the slaves! We are free. We live in our land freely. We are not holding any tribe - far away or near - responsible for our state. When we fight, we fight for our rights for our fair share as sons and not crying to others for help for freedom |

Re: Itsekiris And Igbo Slaves by RoyalUc(m): 12:13pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
Ariani: "...Two things made the Igbo more susceptible to slave-raiding than other ethnicities. The first was the Osu caste system, which made many Igbos sell their own kith and kin to others. The second thing is that the Igbos never united under one king, neither were they willing to submit themselves unquestionably to one person. That made it possible for other smaller ethnicities who had united under one king to raid Igbo villages...Let me even annoy you some more, many of the people in modern-day Onitsha are of Bini origin. In fact, the elite and titleholders of Onitsha have very close consanguinity to the Binis." Reno |
Re: Itsekiris And Igbo Slaves by Ariani: 12:54pm On Jul 23, 2021 |
RoyalUc: There is no link between Bini wall building and the rantings above. The above is Reno veering off rails as usual. Lol! Which Bini people raided Igbo villages? Do we share boundaries with Bini people? Slave trade in Igboland had nothing to do with Osu cast. Infact Osus escaped slave trade because they were untouchable having been dedicated to the deities. It made many non Osus jealous even. Igbo slaves were sold at the bight of Biafra, now bight of Bonny, and has nothing to do with Bini people. The active people in Igbo slave trade were the Aro and their Ohafia,Abam and Edda mercenaries. They were all Igbo groups. People sold slaves to them who were mainly criminals or stubborn children, and they took them to Bonny or Calabar to sell. It had nothing to do with Bini. Bini is inconsequential in Igbo history. Some Igbos like Onitsha, Enuani and Oguta people who lived in Bini but ran back home when Bini tried to sell them off as slaves or offer them as human sacrifices to their fetish gods, were well welcomed back home where they got security. 3 Likes |

Nwanyiogwashi: You’re very stupid. Igbo clans can never measure up to the numerous empires that were present in yoruba land. All you have to do is look into history and you will see for a fact that Igbos were slaves to pretty much all of the coastal tribes in Africa because igbo communities never centralised under a king. That’s why the British had issues conquering igboland too until they destroyed the arochukwu cave. 1 Like |

Nwanyiogwashi:I have not been following this issue... Trust me to dig up historical fact. Itshekiris have been recorded to be Slaves themselves in Sierra Leone. I will upload a document where how the slaves who finally landed in Sierra Leone got there. Itshekriri didn't enslave nothing. |

iSlayer:The former name Escravos ( Ugborodo) is part of Itsekiriland which was founded over 500 years ago by Ilaje-Yorubas from oil-rich Ugbo kingdom in the nearby Ondo State, while Forcados is the eastern-most boundary of Ijawland according to the books written by historians and the iconic Isaac Adaka-Boro before he passed. The Aros sold the Ibo tribes of the interior to the Ijaw middle-men of Bonny, Nembe, Brass, and more, who then resold them to the European and American slave dealers in the late 1700s to the early 1800s. I read this years back from available sl.ave ship records and history books. When Jaja was sold into slavery, (Jaja's father was a well-known sl.ave trader too in Amaigbo now in Imo State) he was marched off on foot and by canoe to Bonny Island which was a notorious Ijaw sl.ave hub. The Ijaws had many Ibo sl.aves as well for domestic labour such as Jaja who was a boy slave in Bonny before fleeing (in a war with his better armed Bonny rivals in 1870 as a freed "Ijawnised" man) to a part of Ibibioland called Ikot Abasi (that area of Ikot Abasi is now called Opobo). Opobo is originally Ibibioland. So Ibo captives from the areas East of the River Niger definitely were passed off or resold to slave dealers of other ethnicities whose lands had direct access to the sea like the Ijaws, Itsekiris, Efiks, Ibibio. Interestingly, Hausas, Kanuris and Nupe captives from the dubious Fulani jihads were also sold via Yorubaland (Lagos Island, Ajase or Porto Novo, greater Badagry region) and Whydah in Benin Republic. They were captured in the Northern interior then resold to other slave dealers from other ethnicities till they got to Yorubaland, etc. Cc: Jerseyboy, Nwanyiogwashiukwu 1 Like 1 Share |
