PoliticsSex-for-mark: What Student, Monica Osagie Told OAU Panel by 6Ebisco(op): 9:46pm On Apr 24, 2018
Dr Abiola Akinyode-Afolabi, the defence counsel for Miss Monica Osagie, the alleged victim in the sex-for-marks scandal at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said on Tuesday that her client affirmed before an investigative panel that Prof. Richard Akindele deliberately failed her because she refused his sexual demand.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Osagie had appeared before the committee set up by the institution’s authorities in company with her counsel.

Osagie, a postgraduate student in the Masters of Business programme, had released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which the lecturer identified as Akindele, allegedly demanded sex for marks.

The committee, which held its session at the Pro -Chancellor’s Lodge on the campus, allowed only Osagie and her counsel into the venue.

Journalists, students and some members of the National Human Right Commission who came to witness the sitting were not allowed into the venue by security personnel of the institution who manned the entrance.

Akinyode-Afolabi, who spoke with newsmen after the closed door session which lasted for more than seven hours, said Osagie told the panel that she passed the course but was later failed by the don because of her refusal to sleep with him.

She said that Osagie narrated in details what transpired between her and the don, adding that lawyers present at the meeting were not allowed to make any contribution.

Akinyode-Afolabi, who is the Executive Director for Human Advocate Research and Documentation Centre, Abuja, said that Osagie also informed the panel that she recorded the conversation between her and the professor as evidence.

She said Osagie also informed the panel that she reported the sexual harassment by the don to some lecturers in the university, adding that no action was taken by them.

Akinyode-Afolabi said some lawyers who represented the lecturers who Osagie claimed she reported the case to also appeared before the panel.

She said that Osagie also told the panel that she did not score 33 per cent as alleged but was failed so that she could bow to the sexual demand of the don.

Akinyode-Afolabi said she was optimistic that the outcome of the panel would serve as a lesson to other lecturers who also engage in such acts.
She, however, urged the panel to ensure that justice prevailed on the issue so as to maintain the integrity of the institution.

Akinyode-Afolabi, who did not allow Osagie to talk to newsmen, said her client would always be available to give evidence whenever she was called upon.

Members of the panel did not also speak with newsmen after the meeting.

Politics2019: INEC Speaks On Creation Of 30,000 Polling Units by 6Ebisco(op): 6:18pm On Apr 22, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reacted to reports that it has created 30,000 additional polling units ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had last Friday accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, and INEC, of fresh plots to secretly ‘create 30,000 illegal polling units in compromised areas’ in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari

But a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to INEC, Rotimi Oyekanmi, on Sunday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to disregard the allegation.

Oyekanmi explained that the commission only got 3,789 requests nationwide for the creation of new polling units.

According to Oyekanmi, the commission responded by directing its Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, to thoroughly assess and provide it with information on new settlements not served or inadequately served by existing polling units.

He added that the commissioners were also to provide information on areas with natural barriers that hinder access to existing polling units; as well as areas that were distant from existing polling units.

He said in the statement, “The RECs are also to assess and provide information on areas affected by communal and other conflicts that make voting in existing polling units unsafe for voters.

“It is these reports and the information they contain that will be collated and carefully examined by the commission in order to determine what changes may be necessary in the current polling units` profile of the country.

“Therefore, the insinuation that the commission intends to create 30,000 new polling units to compromise the 2019 General Elections is false, misleading, unfounded and should be disregarded.”

PoliticsKanu’s Family, IPOB Spits Fire Over Kanu’s Whereabouts by 6Ebisco(op): 5:37pm On Apr 21, 2018
Family of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has expressed anger and worry over the conflicting reports concerning his whereabouts.

They again called on the military to tell them where their parents and son, Nnamdi are as they have not been able to see or communicate with them since the army invaded their home last year.

As a result, IPOB has threatened to embark on a mass action to force the government to produce Kanu.

Recall that soldiers invaded the house of the Kanus late last year and since then; both the IPOB leader and his parents had not been seen or heard of, fuelling speculation that they may have been detained or killed by the military. The security agencies have however consistently denied the charge.

The call yesterday by the spokesman of the family, Prince Emma Kanu follows fresh rumours making the rounds that Nnamdi Kanu and his parents are neither dead nor in detention as they had been traced to Ghana and Umuahia respectively. The rumour was confirmed to Saturday Sun on Friday by a highly placed security source.

According to Emma, “If the military knows Nnamdi Kanu and my parents’ whereabouts, they better let us know and provide them without delay. If they know where they are, they should go and bring them, it’s as simple as that. How come my parents are with us in Umuahia and we cannot see or communicate with them? It’s impossible; they know what they are doing.

“Is it not the same military that denied the invasion of our house that came out now to say my parents are in Umuahia and Nnamdi in Ghana; they should go to Umuahia and bring them, let’s see or go to Ghana and bring Nnamdi Kanu let’s see.”

The family spokesman said the way their son’s whereabouts was being gossiped about has turned Nnamdi into a ghost. “The other time, some people said they saw Nnamdi Kanu going to London through Malaysia, others have said they saw him in Germany, Ghana and Cameroon.

The military will soon come out to say they saw him in Kano. It’s like my brother has now become a ghost that he should be seen everywhere. If this is so, it goes to confirm our fears that the military who took him away when they raided our home last year had killed him and his ghost is now moving about in those places.”

He said “all these are tissues of lies being propped by the military with the intention of diverting attention from people asking them where my parents and brother are.

All these are tissues of lies from the pit of hell being junked out by the military thinking that will stop the family, Biafrans and the international community from asking them where they kept Nnamdi and his parents because they (military) saw them last.

“All we are saying is that they should allow us see Nnamdi and our parents because we know they are with them; where they are dead, they should release their corpses to us for burial. I thank them so much for the information they are giving us, they should do us more favour by telling us exactly where they are so that we will go and meet them.

“The Nigerian army is known for telling lies, even when they invaded our house they lied they never did even when they were confronted with hard evidence they still lied about it. They are a set of people who lie so much and they will continue to lie.”

In the face of all these, Emma asked IPOB members not to mind the politics the military is playing with the whereabouts of their leader; asking that they should remain resolute because the actualisation of Biafra is not far.

Meanwhile, IPOB has threatened mass action over the fate of Kanu. According to its Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, “Nigerian government is beginning to discover that our leader is not an ordinary person that can be abducted without consequences.

We are waiting to exhaust all peaceful options before we mount a concerted direct action to free our leader. The only thing that might lead to a violent disintegration of Nigeria is the fate of our leader.

“Our multiple demonstrations in Jerusalem and London calling on civilised nations of the world to prevail upon this Buhari led APC regime to release our leader is resonating within diplomatic circles.

We have also formally notified the United Nations mission in Switzerland through the offices of our solicitors in London, that our leader is missing. At this point in time the United Nations is officially aware of the plight of our leader and they have promised to do something about it as a matter of urgency.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure our leader is returned to us alive and well in the shortest possible time. Nigeria is playing with fire and it will consume it if care is not taken.

IPOB is not like anything Africa has ever seen. We are unrelenting and indefatigable. At the end of this tortuous process the army will produce our leader and Biafra will be restored.

CelebritiesMy Dark-skinned Nearlly Put Me Out Of Job – Ireti Doyle by 6Ebisco(op): 5:07pm On Apr 20, 2018
Veteran actoress, Ireti Doyle, shared a post on her Instagram page where she addressed colourism, she revealed how her skin color almost made her lose her first TV commercial.

The actress spoke of how the client wanted to turn her down because she was dark-skinned, which was below the ideal complexion needed.

However, the director of the Tv commercial, Mr. Wale Fanu, used his influence to ensured she wasn’t dropped from the commercial.

Iretiola Doyle shared the story to encourage dark-skinned ladies who might feel inferior to their light-skinned counterparts.

She wrote;

”I shot my 1st tv commercial over two decades ago. It was a major deal for an upcoming actor; for the visibility and the pay check.

I nearly lost that gig for being the wrong skin colour. I didn’t match the client rep’s “ideal”.
Thankfully, the director, Mr. Wale Fanu wasn’t a push over. He told the chap to let him do his thing or take him off the project.

Fast forward 20yrs, “Melanin Poppin” has become a # and the dark skinned girl is having her day in the sun.
It might take a little while longer, but eventually it will be clear that “loud and obnoxious” is not quite the same as “bold and audacious”…And that being polite, soft spoken and demure, is not “fake”; neither is it a “weakness”. @kelechiamadiobi(AMVCA 2016)”.

PoliticsYour Incompetence Made Nigerian Youths Jobless, Not Laziness – Omokri Tells Buha by 6Ebisco(op): 7:37am On Apr 19, 2018
Spokesman to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment that Nigerian youths are lazy and uneducated.

President Buhari had on Wednesday in London during a panel discussion at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster, said that Nigerian youths are uneducated and not ready to work, waiting to get everything for free without doing anything.

Omokri reacting in a post on his social media page obtained by Orsu24news.com, said that Nigerian youths are not lazy, but the incompetence of the President is what makes the youths jobless.

He wondered why the President should blame Nigerian youths for being jobless whereas over 10 million jobs were lost under his government since 2015.

His Post Reads: “10 million jobs lost since 2015. It is not laziness that makes Nigeria’s youth jobless, it is Buhari’s incompetence that makes them jobless”.

“How many of Buhari’s children are gainfully employed? His son Yusuf is busy riding multimillion power bikes while the father insults us! It is what he ought to say about himself that he is saying about Nigeria’s youth”.

“Buhari is the one that does not want to work. What project has he initiated, started and completed in 3 years” ?

“ The only thing he knows how to do is blame and condemn! Jonathan gave youths #YouWIN. What has Buhari given youths besides sorrow, tears and blood” ?

PoliticsBuhari Is Not A Religious Bigot – Osinbajo by 6Ebisco(op): 5:28pm On Apr 17, 2018
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has dismissed claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is a religious bigot.

Osinbajo said some of the finest Christians in Nigeria currently serve in Buhari’s government

Speaking in Adamawa State yesterday, the Vice President listed Christians in Buhari’s government to include, the Secretary of Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, who is a Pastor, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita and himself.

According to Osinbajo, “The truth of the matter is that in the government of today, we have some of the most erudite Christians, some of the best Christians occupying positions in government. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who is a pastor; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita and of course I, the Vice-President are all Christians.

“But it is not enough to have Christians in government like myself. It is never enough.

“If you look through the scriptures whether it was Joseph, Daniel or Esther, every person who made an impact in governance in the scripture that we see was supported by the prayers of the people of God.

“God is not moved unless we move His hands in the place of prayers. We are in a period in history when God wants to do something that is why some of us are in government.

“The opportunity must not be lost, your prayers to God will make that difference.”

PoliticsAPC Accuses Wike Of Sponsoring Gunmen To Kill Its Members In Rivers by 6Ebisco(op): 2:34pm On Apr 17, 2018
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday accused the state Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of sponsoring gunmen to attack its members in the state.

APC claimed that the gunmen have been on rampage since Wike assumed power.

The party alleged that Wike and the PDP were responsible for the “spate of killings and violence that have bedevilled Rivers State before, during and after the 2015 and subsequent elections in Rivers State.”

In a statement signed and sent to MC EBISCO by its spokesperson, Chris Finebone, the state arm of the party urged Wike to “rein in” on these gunmen and “stop endangering the lives of Rivers people.”

The statement reads, “The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, is miffed and highly disturbed that since the nomination process for a legally compromised local government council election for chairmen and councillors by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, shootings and maiming have, once again, resumed across Rivers State. It is important to mention that the charade of an election is being organised by the PDP and for the PDP even though some fringe parties claim to participate.

“It is shocking to note that mere primaries for chairmen and councillors for a supposed local council election will result in the large scale shootings, maiming and violence that are now further compounding the dangers of kidnapping, robberies and killings that Rivers people and residents are living under.

“It is important to mention that the ongoing PDP-on-PDP orgy of violence underscores our consistent position that Gov. Wike and the PDP are responsible for the spate of killings and violence that have bedevilled Rivers State before, during and after the 2015 and subsequent elections in Rivers State. These killings, whether in ONELGA or other areas of Rivers State, members of the APC have remained the target. So far, over 1000 APC souls have been lost to this PDP violence in the State from 2014 to date.

“Curiously but noteworthy is that, with the eruption of violence in the ongoing PDP council primaries in Rivers State, all doubts about those who are responsible for the electoral violence in the State have been cleared. Sadly, the violence by PDP members on fellow PDP members still carry collateral consequences on law-abiding people and residents of Rivers State including peace-loving members of the APC.

“Again, even as resort to violence takes centre stage in the ongoing PDP primaries, other electoral malfeasance are reportedly being perpetrated across the State. In Isiokpo, one Chukwudi Dimkpa has accused Gov. Wike and his henchmen of imposition of candidates. In Etche, materials were reportedly hijacked and aspirants beaten into coma. In Ibaa, individuals diverted materials. Similar cases have been reported across the State.

“The APC believes that the present electoral malfeasance by the PDP has cleared all doubts and re-affirmed that PDP and its members are responsible for all deaths, pains and agonies the people and residents of Rivers State have had to go through from 2014 to date. To the PDP, electoral misbehaviour is ingrained in their DNA hence the ease with which they unleash it even upon their own members.

“Gov. Nyesom Wike must go beyond disqualifying his gun-toting boys from contesting PDP primaries, he must rein them in and allow law-abiding citizens to have their peace across the State. It is said that you may borrow trouble but you should not lend it to your neighbour.

“More importantly, the APC calls on the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command and all other heads of security agencies in the State to do the needful to ensure that the PDP-on-PDP violence currently pervading the state is contained from spilling out into full scale war. Residents and people of Rivers State have been through too much, further pains should not be brought on innocent people by a bunch of blood-thirsty hooligans whose only pathway to electoral office is violence, killing and maiming having learnt same from their leader, Gov. Nyesom Wike.”

PoliticsI Will Support Those Working For Nigeria’s Unity, Stability – IBB by 6Ebisco(op): 6:02pm On Apr 16, 2018
General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.), former military president, on Sunday said he would support any group with a template that will ensure unity and stability of Nigeria.

Babangida spoke when he received the new Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly (NLSA) led by Tanko Yakasai.

According to the former military head of state, politics is all about togetherness and not about bitterness against any segment of the society.

While aligning himself with the group and what it stands for, the man popularly known as IBB urged the members to interact with politicians across the regions of the country, irrespective of religious inclinations or political party affiliations, because “they (politicians) know what they need.”

Babangida said: “Anything within the context of one Nigeria is noble. I will support and bless what you are doing, but be sure you are fair in your dealings with Nigerians.

“This move has answered my questions and put away my worries about the essence of one Nigeria. The Assembly will go a long way in cementing the unity of the North and indeed Nigeria.”

Yakasai, chairman of NLSA, had earlier told the former Nigerian leader that the Assembly’s mission was to promote unity among the country’s cultural and political divides in the Northern region.

He said: “This Assembly is political but non-partisan. It is political in the sense that the door is open to all Northerners, irrespective of their ethnicity, differences of religious and political belief or sectional background.

“Although the idea to form this body has come when our country is approaching general elections, the formation of the organisation has nothing to do with the elections. We are aiming at something far beyond this year’s electioneering.”

Yakasai further pointed out that the Assembly shall also not be an affiliate of any particular political party, ethnically-based group or religious body.

Politics2019 Presidency: Primate Ayodele Reveals What Buhari’s Second Term Will Do To Ni by 6Ebisco(op): 10:29am On Apr 16, 2018
Primate Babatunde Ayodele, founder and head of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke Afa, Lagos has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term will cause Nigeria 40 years setback.

Addressing journalists in Lagos, the prophet said Buhari’s second coming will lead to Nigeria’s collapse.

He said, “President Buhari’s declaration to contest for a second term in office is a waste of time. God is not with Buhari any longer to rule Nigeria. He should vacate the presidency.

“His followers may be telling him a lot of things, but Buhari’s second term in office will cause Nigeria another 40 years’ setback. I am not his enemy but I am talking as a prophet.

“They may take it or leave it. I have no apologies. Nigeria will collapse under him. They are deceiving him. In fact, the international community will fight against him.

“Buhari is just going to waste Nigeria’s resources if voted in again. The bloodshed will continue. I said it earlier this year that Jacob Zuma will face crisis in South Africa. Is it not happening now,” he warned.

PoliticsBabangida Warns Buhari Over Boko Haram by 6Ebisco(op): 9:00am On Apr 16, 2018
Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retd), has told the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to also use psychological and unconventional methods in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East.

Babangida gave this advice during an exclusive interview with Ladi Akeredolu-Ale on Channels Television.

IBB pointed out that it would be a mistake to use regular war tactics against the insurgents.

“What we tend to forget is that the insurgents have also got tacticians or people who think for them, and once they do that, then you have a problem.

“You have to find a way of countering that information they dish out,” he said.

Babangida added that government should embark on sensitisation campaigns in a bid to “dish out a lot of not so good information about the other people (terrorists) so that the populace will have confidence that no matter what happens, the military is there to protect them.”

“I killed my father because he did not allow me marry my boyfriend, Nasiru Musa. We have been dating for two years. My dad has beaten me several times, to stop me from marrying Nasiru. Around 3.00am on March 11, my mother told me while we were sleeping outside, to go into my father’s room where he was sleeping. She said that I should take his cutlass and kill him. I ran to where my father always keeps his cutlass and went to his room. I cut him on the neck with the cutlass while my mother held his leg. After killing him, I ran away to the house of my friend, Regina. The incident was reported to the police at Bwari Police Division. Nasiru did not know that I wanted to kill my father. He was shocked when he heard that I killed my father.”

I didn’t know that Emani was planning to kill her father. I was not aware. I was shocked when I heard that Emani killed her father. I went on condolence visit to the family and even assisted in searching for her, before she was arrested. PoliticsGovernment Alleges Sudden Withdrawal Of Military by 6Ebisco(op): 9:26am On Apr 15, 2018
The Taraba Government on Saturday expressed shock over alleged sudden withdrawal of military contingent deployed to enforce peace and security in southern part of the state.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Gov Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu, the government lamented what they described as “unceremonious withdrawal of soldies from the operations.

“The surprise is that no reason was given for the withdrawal and the government was not aware.

“At the moment the reason for the withdrawal of the soldiers is not known to us,” the statement added.

Also the Chairman of Donga Local Government Council, Mr Nashuka Ipeyen told newsmen, in an interview, that soldiers deployed to troubled spots in the local government started pulling out around 1:00am on Saturday.

Ipeyen explained that on receipt of the information he quickly contacted the Commanding Officer, 93 Battalion Ada Barack Takum, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Gambari who said he ordered the withdrawal of the soldiers.

“I complained to him over the withdrawal of soldiers because we received information that some villages were going to be attacked, but he told me he would not risk the lives of his soldiers.

“The Commanding Officer insisted that he was withdrawing the soldiers until the state government write an undertaking that it will take responsibility if any of the soldiers is attacked or killed.

“I don’t know why the state government would have to do that for the soldiers when the attackers are killing civilianson daily.

“However, I have made arrangement with the commissioner of police who has since deployed three trucks of mobile police personnel to provide security for the people,” he said.

In a swift reaction, the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 23 brigade Yola, Maj. Kamarudeen Adegoke, denied the allegation saying no soldier was withdrawn from the local government.

“All our men are still stationed at their various duty posts.

“I don’t know where the state government has gotten its information that troops have been withdrawn, but what I can confirm to you is that our men are fully on ground,” he said.

PoliticsPastor Bakare Speaks On Chibok Girls, Leah Sharibu by 6Ebisco(op): 9:20pm On Apr 14, 2018
Senior Pastor, Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has called on the Federal Government to secure the immediate release of Chibok schoolgirls and the remaining Dapchi girl, Leah Sharibu, from Boko Haram.

Bakare stated this while speaking during the Bring Back Our Girls Lecture on Saturday in Abuja.

He lamented that the Dapchi episode happened four years after the Chibok incident and one year to general elections.

“The Nigerian government must do all that is necessary to bring the Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu back and alive”, he said.

“Not just because their parents and Nigerians cannot wait to see them back, but also because of what they now represent to the Nigerian nation. Leah Sharibu has become a symbol of the Nigerian constitution.

“Our hearts go out to parents and prayers go out to her wherever she is at the moment. And we affirm in the spirit of hope that very soon, we will see her safely returned to us.

“The fact that the Dapchi episode happened four years after the Chibok incident and one year to elections just as it was in the Chibok case is evidence of an alarming national malady.

“There is something wrong if a nation is bitten twice, yet never shy with respect to the safety and security of its girl-child.

“There is something undeniably wrong when its girl-child repeatedly becomes the bargaining instrument in negotiation deals between the government and terrorists.”

PoliticsWhy I Asked Nigerians To Stone Buhari – Momoh by 6Ebisco(op): 2:46pm On Apr 14, 2018
A former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh has explained why he asked Nigerians to stone the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government if he failed to perform.

Momoh had during the build up to the 2015 general elections called on Nigerians to stone the APC government if they don’t leave up to expectations.

Speaking with The Sun, the former minister said Nigerians were already stoning the president despite his monumental achievements.

He said, “We are in a democracy. As Minister of Information, I gave Nigerians information; one, to satisfy your need for information; secondly, to give you the information to do what you like to do with it.

“So, people who are saying that APC has done nothing have a right through the information they have to achieve the aims they want, but that does not reduce from the fact that objectively, APC has done something.

“Whatever happens, I said stone us if we don’t perform, but some people are stoning us, not that we didn’t perform, but because they are in opposition and cannot appreciate that we are preforming. In the area of security, nobody would say that we have not tried.

“Nobody will say that the challenges we have in the Northeast, Middle Belt, South-south, Southeast, Southwest and even in the Northwest, are not being attended to. In the area of agriculture, nobody can say that we have not attended to eating what we grow, and growing what we want to eat. We came out of recession. There are a lot of things we have done.”

NYSCNYSC: Corps Members To Be Posted To Farms – Coordinator by 6Ebisco(op): 8:29am On Apr 13, 2018
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, says it will include farming and crop production as part of the one year primary assignment for corps members from the next service year.

The NYSC FCT Coordinator, Bello Ballama said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that the move was to help address corps members’ rejection by some employers, through the engagement of more corps members in all aspects of farming and crop production.

The coordinator said that the move was also aimed at boosting the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, Programme.

Ballam said the scheme was therefore putting all its farms in good condition in readiness for corps members to commence its use.

“Corps members will be involved in all aspects of farming and crop production.

“This will not only support skills acquisition of NYSC but also governments plan of boosting agricultural production to improve self-reliance and achieve national growth and development.

“From this 2018 Batch ‘A’ Stream I set of corps members who are commencing orientation on April 19, we are going to look into all the farm formations and centres to be able to post corps members there.

“We have farms in the FCT and many other states of the country; the present leadership of the scheme is poised to ensuring the revival of all NYSC facilities including the farms.

“The NYSC is faced with the challenge of engaging the increasing number of corps members mobilised every year.

“We therefore, have to take proactive steps towards achieving our mandate and supporting the federal government’s plans for youth development,” he said.

He said that the scheme was still faced with the challenge of corps members being rejected by organisations they were posted to carry out their one year primary assignment.

The coordinator said that in spite of discussion the scheme had with corps employers not to reject corps members, the NYSC was still faced with the problem every year.

He said that some corps employers do not provide accommodation and transportation to corps members who are left to suffer harsh
living conditions.

“We have held a workshop with corps employers and have interacted with them and we look forward to a better relationship and working environment for corps members in the next year,“ he said.

NAN reports that some of the farms owned and run by the scheme are located in Benue, Plateau, FCT among other states.

PoliticsCourt Frees 2 Boko Haram Suspects by 6Ebisco(op): 12:28pm On Apr 12, 2018
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday discharged two suspects who had been arraigned for alleged ties with Boko Haram insurgency.

The suspects were discharged due to lack of diligent prosecution by the government.

While discharging the defendants, Justice Binta Nyako said that Ibrahim Ahmed had been in detention since 2013, while Sani Argungu had been detained since 2012 without the case proceeding to trial.

The judge blamed it on the failure of the government to call any of its witnesses adding that the defendants could be re-arraigned whenever the prosecution was able to get its witnesses to attend court.

“The defendants have been in custody with no trial because the prosecution cannot bring its witnesses to court. So, I discharge the defendants and the suit is hereby struck out,” she said.

She added that the defendants, although discharged, would be monitored and warned them not to associate with any person of questionable character.

Ibrahim, in his statement, confessed that he was a security guard at the government house in Sokoto.

He was arraigned for allegedly giving passage to Boko Haram members.

PoliticsBuhari Extends VAIDS Deadline To June 30 by 6Ebisco(op): 4:54pm On Apr 11, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) to June 30, 2018.

His spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a statement on Wednesday, said the extension after the original March 31 date followed the appeals of professional bodies and individual taxpayers.

“However, no further extension of time will be approved after June 30”, the statement said.

The President added that a new date was also given, based on the conviction of the Ministry of Finance that the overall objective to increase compliance will be attained, and additional revenue will accrue.

A fresh Executive Order will be made to give legal backing to the new timeline.

According to President Buhari, “For a nation of people who are competitive and driven, it is not a pride that we are the lowest performer in tax to GDP, not just in Africa, but in the world.

“Nigeria’s growth needs are such that every Nigerian must do his duty to his nation, to his neighbour, and to himself.

“Hiding monies overseas, evading taxes by manipulation, and other unwholesome practices, have never developed a country, and for Nigeria to attain her true potential, these must stop.”

The President urged Nigerian companies and individuals to join government in the rebuilding mission, “and do the right thing by taking this window of extension to regularize.”

He added that the right thing may not be convenient or comfortable, “but in the long run, we will all have a nation we can be proud of.”

President Buhari further urged tax authorities to use the extension window to perfect plans to prosecute those who fail to regularize their tax status.

EducationSex For Marks: OAU Lecturers Demand Probe Of Professor by 6Ebisco(op): 9:02am On Apr 11, 2018
The Chairman, Congress of University Academics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr Niyi Sumonu, has spoken on the case involving a a professor at the university, Richard Akindele, accused of requesting for sex from a female student in order to raise her scores.

Professor Akindele was on Monday fingered in sex allegations after leaked conversation between him and the student emerged online.

In the said phone conversation, the professor could be heard asking the student to have sex with him five times to upgrade her scored from 33 to a pass mark.

Reacting, Sumonu asked the university to investigate the matter.

He said, “If it is established that this is true, the person, who perpetrated that does not belong to the academic environment. We are supposed to mould the lives of the students – males and females.”

Also Reacting , the immediate past Deputy Coordinator of NANS in the South West, Mr. Saheed Afolabi, called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

He said, “This is becoming too rampant these days and I want the management of the OAU to investigate this. Although we are still making efforts to know the female student, this should not be swept under the carpet.”

The Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, had earlier stated that the university would set up a committee to ascertain the veracity of the telephone conversation as the matter was a serious one.

Olanrewaju was quoted as saying“We have listened to the audio and we cannot conclude on it now because this is the age of ICT; anything can happen. The university has a way of dealing with such.

“First and foremost, we will set up a committee to determine the veracity or otherwise of the conversation to establish authenticity of the characters involved. If those involved happen to be our lecturer and student as it is portrayed, the university has a machinery of dealing with such.

“Let me make it clear, OAU has zero tolerance for sexual intimidation, sexual harassment and sexual coercion. So, we will not accept it from staff to students; from the workers; from superiors to subordinates and even from students to students.”

CrimePolice Speaks On Dreaded Badoo Cult by 6Ebisco(op): 12:47pm On Apr 10, 2018
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Monday said the activities of the dreaded Badoo cult, as well as militancy, especially along the riverine communities, have been degraded.

Speaking at the inaugural edition of the Lagos State Security Summit held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Imohimi said it was also gratifying to report that in view of the massive assistance extended to security forces by the State Government through consistent donation and funding of security equipment, crime rate was now on consistent decline in the State.

Imohimi, who gave an overview of crime statistics in the State, said from 2014 till date, a total of 1315 armed robbery attacks, 359 cult-related cases and 392 kidnapping cases were recorded, with several arrests made and prosecutions ongoing.

He also said the policy had greatly helped in putting a stop to activities of dreaded cult groups such as Badoo, with all their shrines demolished, while from January till date, no attack had been recorded from the militants.

He said: “In comparison, when I became Commissioner of Police, Lagos State in September last year, I introduced my own policing plan powered by the strategy and philosophy of community policing and community safety partnership.

“Policing like we all know is more about strategy and technology but there are other factors that come to play such as logistics and all that but when there is a clear-cut strategy backed with the right technology, then the war against crime would be won.

“Based on the partnership with the community and other security outfits within our communities, we have been able to bring the activities of Badoo cult group to an end and also discovered suspected notorious shrines in Ikorodu and environs used for suspected ritual killings and other form of crimes. These shrines have all been demolished.”

The CP said to a large extent, the police command, under his watch, had leveraged on the existing goodwill with the State Government and the public to keep the State safe.

“Since my assumption of office, we have leveraged on the robust goodwill existing between the police and the government on one hand and members of the public on the other hand to record some modest achievements that have not only consolidated on the achievements of my predecessor and also ensured that the Command keep the flag flying.”

He recalled that a total of 15 town hall meetings were organised for him to meet with members of various communities and in all the meetings, the issue of trust consistently featured.

In response, he said a citizens complaint call centre was set up where people could lodge petition on issues bordering on professional misconduct of police officers, and that such had helped to rekindle confidence of the public in the police.

PoliticsPresidency Denies Buhari’s Approval Of $1bn For Military Equipment by 6Ebisco(op): 8:37pm On Apr 09, 2018
Ita Enang, the senior special assistant to the President on national assembly matters on Monday said that Buhari has not approved the release of $1 billion from the excess crude account.

He said the approval given to the federal government by the national economic council was undergoing the “normal legislative process” before the national assembly.

Recall that the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, had on Wednesday disclosed the release of $1 billion for procurement of security equipment to fight insecurity in the country after a three-hour meeting Buhari had with service chiefs and heads of other security agencies.

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, also said those criticising Buhari’s approval of $1 billion for security fund “are playing politics with the lives of Nigerians”.

However, Enang has issued a statement denying President Buhari’s approval of the fund. It read:

“In response to several issues raised about Security Fund sourced for at source from Excess Crude account to combat Security challenges in the country and the several misreadings attending same, may l state as follows:

“That the said sum has not and cannot be approved for spending by Mr. President.

“That in accordance with best practices, Mr. President, having received approval of sum from National Economic Council made up of all the Governors, now had a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, among others to collate the need of each of the Services and the money available for appropriation

“That Mr. President and the meeting having collated the need of each Service and the amount involved may now present same to the Federal Executive Council for detailed Consideration, or in exercise of Presidential powers may communicate same to the National Assembly for appropriation.

“That this may be done as usual upon Mr. President Consulting prior with the Leadership of the National Assembly through the whole body of principal officers or the presiding officers of each chambers only, before originating the communication to the National Assembly

“That as at now, the process of approving the money for use is inchoate and still undergoing Executive standard operating procedure before laying same before the National Assembly for appropriation.

“That the processes now being worked on is to fast-track this procedures so that it may be forwarded to the National Assembly while it is still considering the 2018 Appropriation Bill (Budget) for incorporation as Mr. President’s supplementary request under the 2018 Budget, or if completed, after the 2018 Budget, it may be forwarded as supplementary Appropriation Bill

“That succinctly stated, Mr. President has not approved the sum for any release of this procurement or application howsoever

“In any case, before any Sum is released from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, there must be

A. Appropriation Act

B. Vote of Charge

C. Warrant which is legally predicated on appropriation authorization Sub-head under the Act

“That the Executive is conscious of the provisions of the Section 80 (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution which states:

“No moneys shall be withdrawn from any public fund of the Federation, other than the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation, unless the issue of those moneys has been authorized by an Act of the National Assembly.

“No moneys shall be withdrawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund or any other public fund of the Federation, except in the manner prescribed by the National Assembly.

“We are also conscious of the provision of Sections 4 and 5 of the 2017 Appropriation Act (relating to Excess crude Account) and would not take any action in breach thereof.

“Just as the Legislature in processing legislation starts with conceptualizing, drafting, scrutiny of the draft, gazzetting, First reading, 2nd reading, committal to appropriate committee, public hearing, consideration of the Report by Committee of the whole or supply, passage and 3rd reading in plenary, so also does the Executive have and maintain standard operating procedure, or due process or due diligence in all actions. And at this stage, the matter is ongoing these processes.

“Therefore, the matter of the Security fund is still undergoing standard processes for laying before the National Assembly for appropriation.

“In summary, ladies and gentlemen, the said Sum can only be spent upon, and in the manner as shall be approved by the National Assembly, and Assented to in Appropriation Act or supplementary Appropriation Act.”

PoliticsGovernor Ugwuanyi An Efficient Manager Of Resources – Enugu Lawmaker, Chinedu Nw by 6Ebisco(op): 11:37am On Apr 09, 2018
A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedu Christian Nwamba, weekend, gave kudos to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the State over “his transparency and due process” in governance.

Nwamba is representing the people of Nsukka East constituency and is the Chairman of the House committee on Public Accounts and anti-corruption.

The lawaker, who is also the South-East coordinator, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth Alliance, spoke to journalists during a town hall meeting he organized for his constituents.

The town hall meeting was attended by a former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Dr. Dan Shere, a former Chairman of the PDP in the State, Engr. Vita Abba, Prof. Damian Opata of the University of Nigeria, government officials, Party leaders, among others.

The lawmaker said unlike some governors who spent public fund with impunity, Governor Ugwuanyi had continued to make due process the hallmark of his administration.

According to him, such attitude towards public finance made it possible for the Governor to record giant strides barely three years in office.

He urged all those on voting age to ensure that they took obtained their permanent voters’ card, which he said was the only to vote back a good leader like the Governor.

He said, “The Governor has done well beyond the expectations of many people considering the meagre resources that have come into the State within this period.

“The way he manages the resources is something other governors should emulate. For instance, this is the first time projects are going on simultaneously in all the communities in Enugu State; I’m not talking about wards but communities.

“This is possible because of his prudency and due process in management of resources. He does not spend any fund without getting approval from the House of Assembly, unlike some governors who think they can do whatever they like. So, we have in Governor Ugwuanyi, an efficient management of resources.

“Few days ago, I was a witness when he empowered over 500 residents of this State after one year of free training in skill acquisition. It is in following after this footsteps that I have also decided to empower 40 persons from my constituency to enable them start life.”

When asked to comment on news in the media that he was interested in running for the position of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Nwamba said, “I am not old, I am still very young; I am ready to serve my people in whatever capacity they ask me to.

“However, I have never told anybody that I am running for the position of House of Reps or any other position for that matter, but I believe because of my performance that is why they are saying it.

“My interest for now is to deliver on the mandate given to me by our people; when the times comes, if there is vacancy in that position and they call on me, I will answer them.

“I will abide by the decision of the leader of the party, His Excellency the Governor and the party. Our party is family and I am a core party man. The party will discuss these issues when the time comes, and if the party says there is vacancy and that I’m the person to go, I will not disappoint them.

“You don’t just stand and say that you are contesting for anything. The decision of the party remains supreme. The party made me what I am, and based on that I remain a core party man.”

PoliticsBuhari Govt Has Not Sacked Any Worker Since 2015 – Lai Mohammed by 6Ebisco(op): 7:24am On Apr 05, 2018
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said despite the challenges facing the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration since coming to office in May 2015, the government has not retrenched a single worker.

The Minister also said it released the names of alleged looters in the country not because it was in a panic mode but because the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged it to do so.

He told Independent Newspaper: “We were challenged to do so. Don’t forget that on their own, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said that they apologised to Nigerians for the way they ran Nigeria aground and we said, yes apology is accepted, but please return the funds. I think one of them challenged us to name those who had stolen money”.

“I think gradually it is becoming fashionable when you remind PDP that they brought us to this sorry path, they will say stop talking about what we did, please continue with your own. But we cannot move. It is important that Nigerians remember how we got here and the same people who have made no atonement say that they want to come back to power in 2019.

“So, it is important for us to remind them. Let me tell you, this government is not in any panic mood. We are so proud of our achievements that in less than three years I can stand up and say this is what we have achieved in the area of security; this is what we have achieved in the economy, in the area of ease of doing business.

“There is no area we have not made our mark. We lifted Nigeria from number 165 in the ease of doing business to 145. It is not a mean feat! And we exited recession at a time when the price of crude was low; we were in recession when we implemented the diversification of the economy.”

“It is on record that despite all these challenges we have not retrenched one person. So, why should we be afraid? Why should we panic? I don’t see any reason why we should panic; I think it is the imagination of people that the government is panicky. No!” He said.

PoliticsPDP Reps Tackle Buhari, APC by 6Ebisco(op): 9:06am On Apr 03, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, caucus at the House of Representatives has tackled the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government over the “worsening sufferings” of Nigerians.

The caucus noted that more Nigerians were hungry due to lack of food, while many others were unemployed or under-employed.

This was contained in a statement in Abuja on Monday night where the PDP reps stated that the APC government won election in 2015, using propaganda as a weapon of “deception.”

Their statement was signed on behalf of the caucus by the Minority Leader, Leo Ogor.

The statement said, “Over and over, it has been proven that the current APC government in Nigeria beats all preceding administrations, including the colonial ones, in the sinister art of deceitful lies and propaganda.

“With fiendish mercilessness, the APC’s 2015 campaign milked the unfortunate abduction of the Chibok girls for every available ounce of propaganda and disinformation against the preceding administration.

“Its campaign rhetoric and official hoopla from the lying minister had included rescuing of the Chibok girls and achieving total defeat of the Boko Haram insurgents.

“Today, the APC government nurses palpable fear over any scrutiny of its errors in Dapchi or its unusual generosity towards Boko Haram, which it promised to defeat but now almost sees as a partner with which to share deep and befuddling confidence.

“Although, the APC government is known not to be a listening one, last Thursday, the Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation , Mr. Bill Gates, emphatically stated that the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan was not reflective of the people’s needs.

“It is an open secret that under the APC, Nigerians have fared worse on the misery index; those who were rich before are no longer investing, the poor are becoming poorer while almost 30 million Nigerians are either unemployed or under -employed.

“According to Bill Gates, the APC government’s concentration on physical infrastructure to the detriment of human capital development exposes the undesirable inadequacies in the health and education sectors.”

Celebrities30 BILLION BABY: Davido Lets His Daughter Hailey Play With Dollar Bills by 6Ebisco(op): 12:58pm On Mar 31, 2018
Nigerian star singer, Davido is currently in abroad visiting and spending time with his daughter, Hailey.

The proud dad of two girls, shared a Snapchat video which showed Hailey playing with hundred dollar bills.

Meanwhile, Davido was alongside Small Doctor, accused of song theft..

The manager of King Sunny Ade, Clement Ige has accused the duo of using the Sunny Ade’s lyrics without seeking permission.

Ige speaking at Goldberg’s ‘Ariya Repete’ Roundtable discourse in Abeokuta, stated that this generation of artists are proud.

He said; “They use English language to speak Yoruba. Like the young man who sang ‘makole marale.’ How do you build house before buying a land?” he asked. Many of them don’t give credit to the original composer of the song they adopt. They just sing it without seeking permission. That’s a copyright infringement. It’s not done in developed societies.

“Till today, Small Doctor didn’t get our permission before and after singing ‘ijó tí m’ojó l’àná, tí wọn n’pariwo, oni nkọ, ola nkọ.’ And many of them are guilty of this.

“That Davido that used Sunny’s lyrics in his song didn’t even get it right and that’s because he didn’t ask for permission. If he did, we would have corrected him. What is ‘Kuluso ewe, agbagba ewe?’
