Early life and education
Amaechi was born 27 may 1965 in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State to the family of late Elder Fidelis Amaechi and Mrs Mary Amaechi. His first and last names are Igbo meaning “God is strength or power” and “who knows tomorrow” respectively. He was raised in Diobu, a densely populated neighborhood in Port Harcourt, and had his early education at St Theresa's Primary School from 1970 to 1976. He earned his West African Senior School Certificate in 1982 after attending Government Secondary School Okolobiri.

Chibuike received a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) in English Studies and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt in 1987, where he was the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS). He completed the mandatory National Youth Service corps in 1988. He thereafter joined the Services of Pamo Clinics and Hospitals Limited owned by Peter Odili, the former Governor of Rivers State where he worked until 1992. He is married to Judith Amaechi and they have three boys.

Early political career

Amaechi cut his early teeth in politics as Secretary of the now defunct National Republican Convention in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. Between 1992 and 1994, he was Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Sir (Dr.) Peter Odili, and also a member of the Board of West Africa Glass Industry as well as Risonpalm Nigeria Limited. Dr. Peter Odili believed in him as a young man with potential in politics, and adopted him as a political son, guiding and nurturing him in politics, and consequently facilitating his election into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 1999.

This relationship between him and Odili translated into a harmonious relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in Rivers State, until when Rotimi Amaechi launched a campaign against the State Government, and verbally attacked the image of the State Governor, in an effort to succeed Peter Odili as Governor in 2007.

He was the Rivers State's Secretary of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) caretaker committee after in 1996 during the transition programme of General Sanni Abacha junta.
Speaker (Rivers State House of Assembly) 1999-2007
Further information: 4th Rivers State House of Assembly and 5th Rivers State House of Assembly

In 1999, he contested and won a seat to become a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly to represent his constituency. He was subsequently elected as the Speaker of the House of Assembly. Amaechi was elected the Chairman of Nigeria's Conference of Speakers of State Assemblies. He was reelected into the State House of Assembly in May 2003 and was also re-elected as the Speaker. In 2003 when the National Assembly moved to hijack the legislative functions of the State house of Assembly as enshrined in the constitution, he and his colleagues took the matter to Nigeria's supreme court and the court gave a judgment that the control and supervision of local government is the prerogative of the State House of Assembly.
Governorship

He contested and won the People's Democratic Party primary for Rivers State Governor in 2007. His name was substituted by the party, an action which he challenged in court. The case eventually got to the Supreme Court.

He became Governor on October 26, 2007 after the Supreme Court ruled that he was rightful candidate of the PDP and winner of the April 2007 Governorship election in Rivers State.

He was reelected for a second term of four years in April 2011.

His administration invested in infrastructure development, construction of roads and bridges, sticking to the vision of connecting all parts of the state by road. The governor was also committed to urban renewal and modernization of transportation services. His administration began building a monorail to provide mass transportation within the city of Port Harcourt.

Some power plant projects (Afam, Trans Amadi, Onne) were also built to improve power supply in the State.

Chibuike Amaechi holds the national honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). He is a Christian Catholic and a Knight of St. Johns.
2015 Presidential Election

Amaechi was appointed the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress 2015 Presidential Campaign.

2015-Till Date Ameachi was recently appointed the Honorable Minister for Transportation, Federal Republic of Nigeria

PoliticsWike Has Succeeded In Turning Port Harcourt From A Garden City To A Garbage City by 6pax(op):
Port Harcourt is officially the dirtiest city in Nigeria no thanks to Wike bad governance. He annexed Rivers State Waste management (RIWAMA) to felix Obua the PDP state chairman shocked ( who is serving as the sole Administrator of the board) ostensibly as a political compensation. I recall when Amaechi was the governor of the state a technocrat was in charge of this agency and PH and its environs was a beauty to behold.

port Harcourt right now is one hell of a smelling city because of the most incompetent, mediocre and nepotic governor in history of Rivers State

It's all politics. Most States are owing but no noise while some States like Imo owe for one month then there's protest coupled with lies. I belong to both Rivers and Imo States and must say this truth that Rivers State is owing workers while Imo State isn't. Pensioners are owed backlog of arrears in Imo State while Rivers State is owing only 3 months. Whatever you read from the media should never be trusted.
making some sense

The Best Governors of Rivers State.

1. Peter Odili. ------ Ogba

2. Amechi Rotimi. ------- Ikwere

3. Wike Ezebuwo. ---------- Ikwere

4. Omehia Celestine. ------------ Ikwere

This is my own personal rating, base on physical infrastructure and policy making/implementation
this people brought our state to where it is. and they did that all under PDP.

Please note that Amechi second tenure as governor saw least or non development in the state due to too much political fight in the state.
Amaechi performed more in his second tenure than even his first tenue (13,000 teachers, 400 doctors recruitment, construction of inner roads with sub drainage system covering DLine, Orazi, Oroworoko, Part of GRA, etc, completion of most of the modern secondary and primary schools, stadium, hospitals, Bannana plantation, songai farmer, fish farms, greater PH project etc.

Infact Amaechi, is by far the best governor that have ever ruled Rivers State

Nigerians are funny, we stand with our politicians to achieve their goals, but they abandon us immediately they achieve.

We never knows that Wike is owing Salary when he was facing tribunal in court, I believe Rivers people don't want to voice out then, and now that he is at peace he never send them.

The same thing happened in Bayelsa state, no news about owing of salary till after Governorship election.

It is no news that the Rivers State governor who is currently owing thousands of teachers in Rivers over six months salary despite the huge borrowing in the tune of N100b has literally abandoned the workers in this season of great economic hardship.

below are some snapshots in the nairaland's job portal of some of the teachers lamenting about the untold hardship the over delayed salaries is causing them

wink2015:
The great vision of former governor Donald Duke is at play. Where is the one done by Former Governor James Onanefe Ibori of Delta state and his successor, Governor Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan?

Ibori and Uduaghan was just eating money. Warri and the entire Delta state is as dry as dry corn. Efcc will soon be after Uduaghan

I like the way President Buhari is identifying with the developmental strides of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state. Some months back he was at the state to commission a highway that leads from cross river state down to northern nigeria. This is commendable.
calabar monorail started 2006 (over 10yrs and spans three administration)
Distance covered less than 1km and just a track specifically for tourism

Rivers monorail started 2011 (5yrs), double track for mass transit
distance covered so far slightly over 2.5km
And wike abandoned the project because of politics angry

Talking about elimgbu. When i say that wike is a curse i mean it and without any apologies. Wike contracted incompetent fools to construct open gutter Road at elimgbu but directed them to channel the water from elimgbu to inner residential estates within rumuodara all because he wants to commission the road by May 29.
Contractors dug open gutter thinking it will drain off East West Road but after construction they realised that East West Road was on higher ground. Wike cursed contractors only surveyed the job after construction. As am writing this, residents of these areas are heaping curses upon curses upon wike. Their area was never this bad before this curse of a governor came on board.
Residents can't move out, shops and businesses crossed, school children swimming to school etc all because of wikes incompetence.
