All proposals are equally subject to acceptance and rejection... That's why it's called a 'Proposal' (look up the word)!

It would have been an entirely different matter if an agreement was reached by both parties to actually get married prior to dating, in which case a proposal would not have been necessary. You don't propose marriage to someone who has already agreed to marry you.
