Russia is broke! They were prepared to sell oil at a $35 discount price per barrel, based on the pre-invasion price (which was lower than today's price) to India and collect payment in Rupees. It's that bad.

Russia accounts for 1.8% of the World economy while the EU alone accounts for at least 20%. The border closure would hit Russia hard.

What you need to understand is that these countries hate Russian blackmail and manipulation. In 2014, because Poland supported sanctions against Russia for seizing Crimea, Russia banned the importation of apples from Poland. This hit Polish farmers hard.
