upthechels1960:The main thing in these projects is fetching API data, and you can easily do that using various client calls like Axios, RTK Query, FetchAPI (for REST endpoints) and Apollo, React Query (For Graph endpoints). Other features can be added using all you've learnt, consulting blogs like Stackoverflow etc But for a start, you can code along with tutors to become comfortable with these. 1 Like |

Good day everyone. Please I'm an engineering student in the university of Abuja. I need help paying my 300 level school fees. I've exhausted all means on how to get the money. I've tried keeping myself busy doing this ASUU strike. Right now I'm learning solar panel installation and computer programming. As proof that I'm not trying to scam anyone, I'll give out my school portal login details to anyone that wants to help me so that he/she can pay the schools fees by his or herself. Thanks in advance 1 Like |

So yesterday I submitted my task to the Europe based start-up. I really struggled with the task, especially some features not working from the Redux area. But I submitted anyway. The recruiter contacted me today that they received my submission. They are reviewing it, but she told me whatever the feedback is, it would be "actionable". Meaning if they aren't satisfied, they'd give me feedback so I can complete it based on the feedback. If they are impressed enough, I'd proceed to a technical interview. The position is a junior position, and they really committed to training enough juniors for their company. Now, assuming I get the job, I would undergo a three month probation period. Afterward, a laptop and workstation upgrade would be sent to me. A mentor (a senior colleague) would be assigned to me etc This is just to give an insight on how most foreign startups welcome a new employee. But like I say, the hurdle lies in getting in. I've received a total of about 12 rejection mails so far. That's just the way it is, it's usually a game of numbers. Not necessarily merit. That's why your CV and GitHub are extremely important. They are the first impressions. A one-page CV is ideal, though mine is two-pages. A GitHub with good activity and solid projects is key too. So I believe. The first impressions would get you the interviews. Then your expertise and knowledge can take over afterwards. Not the other way around. I have a writing work to complete. Man must collect small change take hold body for now 17 Likes |

I have read through the the entire thread, must commend the OP for a good job, you're pretty engaging with your writing skill, I wouldn't be surprised to know your coding skill is as equally impeccable. To those just starting out to code and are stuck on JavaScript, you don't know JavaScript until you feel like you're a dumb Idi*t or she'd tears at how nuts the language is driving you. You should be rest assured though that one day, you'd wake up and everything would begin to make sense (this is how it happened to). Don't rush the understanding of JavaScript, let it come to you, no amount of time you set out to learn JavaScript will ever be enough, trust me. I have been writing and learning for 4 years and I can tell you, I still Google basics things. Furthermore, I just picked up React 3 weeks ago and it feels like a home run learning that library mainly due to my well grounded knowledge of JavaScript, don't rush these skills, learn them with utmost desire to acquiring the knowledge. 11 Likes |

TheManOfTheYear: I hope you don't mind my asking: When you apply for jobs, do you send your CV with a cover letter or just the CV? Currently on the job search and all I've received have been rejections Rejections that would have been better if at least one was told where it is he is lacking, to maybe scale up but unfortunately, it's always the same kind of message. 1 Like |

@Themanoftheyear na man you be. I followed through the thread and honestly agitated by the resonance of your Spirit. If a man ever will be extraordinary he must be backed up. I resonate with your story and even though I'm not a fully techy person which I had always wanted to be, I can verifiably say that most of the times in my path in life, the applied knowledge I have in tech has added flavour beyond shadows. This thread of yours sparked more instincts and livingness in me despite the odds of living in an analog country. I will press forward in relentlessly pursuing mastery and excellence in the niches that I have upheld. Lastly, I want to implore Nigerian youths to see to ways by which they can proactively, legitimately, and productively incorporate tech in their lives and modus operandi. Coding is not meant for everyone, you can aswell find a niche in the tech space and furnish it with your talent or discipline; gain a mastery of it and make a decent living off it. I challenge everyone to be their best in what they do. Any suggestion on how I can finesse my freelancing side hustle most especially in affiliate marketing, Technical writing, and graphic design will be most welcomed. See y'all at the top. 3 Likes |

Yes baby!! The US start-up contacted me that I've moved to the next stage lol. I'm proceeding to a technical interview with the CTO and the engineering team. Now I don't even know what to prepare on. This is where it gets tricky. God got us though! Obviously the test I was given in the first stage was a react test that involved me cloning a particular web app and implementing an OAuth login (most challenging aspect), and Fetching API data using Redux Toolkit. I was given 3 days to complete it. I submitted about 30 minutes to the deadline Now, I have just a few days to prepare for this interview. Let's see how it goes. 28 Likes 1 Share |
