A friend gave me the task of getting a Tokumbo Corolla for him and I have been on it for few weeks now. In this assignment I've come to realize that Corolla is now more expensive than the following vehicles:

Toyota Camry
Toyota Highlander
Acura MDX
Nissan Pathfinder

It's just crazy!!! How can I pay over 3 million naira for a 2003 Corolla? How? I've told him I won't continue in the quest unless he makes another choice.

But why are people so in love with Corolla? I know that the car is strong and reliable, but it's definitely not the only strong and reliable car out there. When we were still in school, whether you scored 70% or 100%, it is "A". So if Toyota Corolla is good at 100%, there are still others that are good at 90%; both are good.

In place of Corolla, we still have Honda Civic, Mazda3, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Nissan Sentra, Camry, accord etc. They may not be as good as Corolla, but they are definitely not too bad. My opinion

I wonder what people see in that car. I don't like it a bit. My wife wanted it too in 2019 but I got her a Toyota Rav4 instead. For me,it is the size;too small in my opinion.

I drive everyday, when I handled the car, definitely I was responsible for its maintenance. The corrolla is overhype, people just assume it's cheap maintenance equate low fuel consumption

Same reason why Transsion always scam them every year with overpriced devices,

Transsion came into Nigeria with the most affordable prices and Nigerians patronised en masse,

Now you talking . That 2003 model can never pass 2.2mill. even the 2009 model I got above 3mil na because of how clean and full option it is . The interior is like heaven in a car

here in benin city the Camry 2.4 is another very popular car please Car gurus i would like tovknow if by any means it's a good alternative to this corolla because for me the corolla is now becoming unreasonably expensive even though i have always been a fan of this corolla. You are son right chief. I use an Elantra and I prefer it to a Corolla over and over. It's just too over hyped. People fear what they don't know and believe parts of other car brands are scarce but it's not.

Mercedes c180 (c-class) is way better than this over-hyped corolla. Security wise, maintenance cost, availability of parts and reliability is on another level. Ask any good mercedes mech engineer of how strong and reliable this car is and certainly you will be convinced.

I always advise people to always make proper enquiry before buying a particular car. I once made a costly mistake but thank God I got it right this time.

it is not because of parts or mechanics,Honda parts are also everywhere and a Toyota mechanic is also a Honda or Nissan tech,Honda also have good resale value,the driving factor is simple economics of supply and demand

I use 3k fuel from Abuja to Edo state last week on a corolla. No car competes with corolla when it comes to economy.

I am telling you. The rate at which this car is been stolen daily is unrivalled by any other car . A situation whereby if you font have a fence at home, your car isn't safe. You can't park by the road side for some minutes. Your mirror, door handles etc will be gone.

If you park out side on the street till day break, the corolla will be naked by the morning. All its vital "organs" are harvested already.

You are absolutely right. A lot of Nigerians don’t think this through. A 2003-2007 Corolla ranges between $2500-$4000 depending on a lot of factors (mileage, neatness, year). Adding tax, paying tow truck and freight (all these in usd @ a mad rate). Customs duty all these already add up to a lot of monies. All a Nigerian wants is just get me a Toyota corrolla and they would say it’s too expensive. I once asked a friend how those selling cars sell and make profits. He said, most dealers go for accident cars that will be repaired when it gets home.

As he entered the premises, men of the underworld came in pointed gun at him, he was slapped heavily and thrown out of the car, the wife who opened the gate was on the floor crying. They just reversed and zoomed off with the corolla.

Whereas, his neighbors are using far more expensive vehicles and thieve has not followed them home for a day.

Pls what's the consumption rate of fuel for a 2012 toyota camry? On a half tank, I drove from Gwagwalada to Kubwa outskirts and back and the fuel was as good as finished. Full AC o! Is this ok?

I own a Peugeot 307 and I tell for a fact that corrola doesn't come close to it. In terms of fuel economy, availability of spare parts, the 307 is top much. Nigerians are just wired to Corolla because of how they abuse vehicle. Every car is good. Maintenance is key to enjoying a car. I even laugh more when people compare Toyota to Peugeot 406. Have you asked yourself why they use 406 as pilot 1 for long distance journey? Enough of this Corolla madness.
