The guy must be drinking king's oil. For me to cook such small pot of stew, if all other things remain same, I will buy meat 1500 and half bottle of kings oil N500. Thereby u saving 5000 naira

Wow,una dey enjoy for Lagos. Things are still cheap in Lagos, compared to South EAST. This food stuffs you bought for 8,500 in Lagos is worth over 15k here in the EAST.

We are really suffering here in the East. Buhari and UN should come to our aid. An average man can no longer afford to eat in the East. Price of everything has gone beyound the reach of the comon man in the East.

The media is not reporting the rate at which we are suffering here.

I think you are right done how . SE is far the richest zone in Nigeria and their purchasing power is almost double elsewhere. That's why other Nigerians cnt survive in SE because of poor standard of living in their regions. Typical example is here in the US, something you can buy for $100 goes a partly $60 pr $70 in Mississippi, ohio or Alabama. That means an average SE can survive any where but average Nigeria can't survive in SE.

Good evening, Nairalanders.

I hope you people are doing great.
So, I decided to go to a Lagos market, buy ingredients for stew and make a pot of stew.

This is what I could buy with over 8k.

Meat = 3k
Veg oil= 4k (King's oil - 2 litres)
Tomato and pepper = 600
Maggi = 100
Onions= 100
Tomato paste = 500 (5 sachets)
Curry leaves = 100

Total = #8400

I want to use this opportunity to appeal to Mr. Seun to incorporate into Nairaland bots that will track keywords used for online begging and block them.

Since some people have decided to foist on everyone bad leaders whom we clearly know have no plans for the country. Let's suffer together if they win but begging on Nairaland should be banned.

What's the connection between what you boughs and those who beg or ask for help? I pray that you should never be in a tight corner that will push you to ask for money online. I know some of them are scammers while there are those with genuine needs.

It's not compulsory you help anyone. But don't discourage those who do. There is blessing in giving. And those who ask for financial support are not necessarily lazy. Only those who have been through this rough road will understand what I am saying.

You exaggerated the cost of preparing a meal by buying 4k oil when N500 oil would have been enough. The total cost of buying the stew ingredients should have been 5k.
even 5k is astronomical in a country where many states can't pay 30k minimum wage.

If you understand the dynamics of shopping and market pricing system, then you would know that its better to buy things like oil, Rice, Beans, Garri/semo in bulk. These items constitute a major strain in cash when shopping. Imagine if oil was off that list, op would have spent about half the price only.
