okay , thanks everybody ... actually my fear is not about who get the highest pay or properties if there's a divorce. The money usually doesnt matter at some point as in the case of bill gate and jeff besos . I don't ever pray for a divorce. But it seems there could only be a thought of divorce if there was a court marriage. I've read stories of couples fight that could have been settled if they had waited for few days, but one party couldn't control the anger and went straight to court and that would be the beginning of the end of the marriage, but if there wasn't a court marriage, even if it takes 1 year for them to realize their mistakes, they could still come back together and continue being husband and wife.

You are right in that court marriage increases the thoughts of divorce in a woman's mind.

Don't do court wedding. Explain to her real love doesn't need to be legally proven and that it's a large administrative overhead

Firstly, Na only court marriage embassy dey accept. So since you want to relocate after marriage. You must do court wedding.

Unless, you people do trad & church in Nigeria. Then relocate as individuals but it live a couple there.

I countered ur comment because its not completely correct....it has nothing to do with gender..... civil partnership with no certificates are recognized at the embassy.... my cousin showed proof of continous relationship with pictures, bank statement of money credited to each other, whats app chats....

I even told u to go to travel section and see for yourself...but instead...u made it about ur gender.... nairaland gender war doesnt have to come into every dialogue

But only a govt issued marriage certificate (court marriage) is recognized at embassy?
Otherwise get a church certificate

The rules what apply to a court marriage, do not categorically apply to a church wedding.

I don't have the liberty of time to comprehensively explain the glaring differences at this very moment, but do yourself the favor of reading up on these things before putting your views out in public.

I'm about 2years old in my marriage and it was through a court process, which I decided upon after months of careful considerations. Are you married? Because most of the retards who comment on marriage threads on nairaland are single people with uninformed opinions.

If you're going to relocate abroad, you MUST do court marriage at a Federal Registry.

That's the most accepted proof of marriage for embassies.

Unless you are a Catholic or Anglican , you must do court marriage if you plan to relocate as couple abroad. You must show proof of marriage to the embassy. You fiancee wanting it or not does not matter!

Secondly, you can sign a prenup with her, stating she will not collect any thing from you If or when you might divorce in the nearest future.

Also it won't stop exorbitant child support that will be calculated based on ur networth.


If u really wanna have no hit in case divorce happens, then stay in Naija and have no investment abroad

Am happy for you, and thank God you have a woman who loves you and you both love each however a biblical verse says true love cast away fears"!! that's not to say you should not listen to your instinct men of this age and time have been turned simps and outwit and outsmart by our female gender all the name of feminists right, if i may advice you rather than take your wife to court for marriage put her in a family way, see women cares so much about having a child as surety in any marriage or relationship compared to going to a court or registry to seal their marriage vows, go to Lagos High Court and see for yourself the rate of high celebrity divorces and those who aren't celebrities the high rate of divorce is unimaginable and highly unprecedented but having a child by any woman to any man in this age and time is a 2 sure BABA IJEBU lotto to seal their relationship.

Your wife will be much happier having your baby now than going to court take it from me as your new year gift.

even if you dont do court marriage they can still hold you with common law or trad/ church marriage abroad especially if kids are involved This topic makes no sense

whether traditionally or whatever, she has the right and can take you to court at any given time. For your mind, you actually thought it’s only a court marriage that can be dissolved in court cheesy
