Aboki is not an insult here in the North, it's people who don't understand Hausa living outside the North that will think it's an insult or derogatory....aboki means friend, aboki na means my friend, abokanai means friends.

Just like the word Mallam, some southerners will think calling a northerner Mallam is derogatory.
