Are these humans at all? Why are they so wicked? Their children and relatives school and stay abroad but they wouldn't allow others to escape the hell created by their heartlessness. |

seunayantokun: Don't worry The bill is dead on arrival There is a temporary provisional license with which you use to practice for 2yrs and do your housemanship before it expires after graduation. That license Is just to show ppl that you have the right to touch patients for a time period after graduation during which you must have complete your housemanship. Maybe that license will now be increased to 5yrs due to the bill but that will now make the stress to hurriedly look for housemanship slots easy, and make the graduates focus on getting UK qualifications first.. It is that graduation letter with IELTS and not the provisional license(or the permanent license gotten after housemanship), that is needed to be submitted to examining body in the UK to start the process of writing their exams. And once you pass the exams you must register under GMC within 2yrs with evidence of housemanship. The graduation certificate, your one year housemanship evidence(which you can now do after passing plab2), your IELTS and the pass of the two exams that are the Koko requirement to prove that indeed you are a doctor that can practice in UK unsupervised. You only need evidence of your Naija full license or provisional license when you are applying for visa. Now this is what will be happening, Alot of Nigerian doctors will make it a duty and goal to leave before that 5yrs expiration just to show the legislators that they can keep their permanent license 1 Like |

Fantastic piece of legislation. Unfortunately it will not pass because Nigerians worship at the altar of migration by all means necessary. Unfortunately this is one of the only steps that can stem the tide of the decay in our heediconealth are sector. For me,step one would be to introduce student loans and then jack up the cost of studying a course like medicine. If you really want to study medicine you will pay like 3-5M per year. If your folks don't have money,Access or GTB will loan you the money which can be written off as you earn points post house job. |

Yampotatocarrot: i that case most people will not do medicine in a public university, I would rather look for 5 to 7m and put him a private university to study then he does those foreign exams and starts practice, within a year or 2 at most ,he will have made back the money i used to train him. instead of being enslaved for 5 yrs |

FreeStuffsNG: My doctor friend left Nigeria to Saudi Arabia within 3 months he wants to buy land in Lagos. He works only 4-8 hours a day. But why he was here in Lagos, the nigga be like gala seller for hold up, too much work wan kill am with an inconsistent low salary. I pray this bill stand, mark my word people will stop studying medicine in Nigeria. Better shortage go enter the ratio will be 1 doctor to 20k patient. By then the same useless federal government will be begging Benin republic to send us doctors. |

Instead of a bill to prevent medical tourism by politicians and public service workers, look at the mumu bill being sponsored |

For those claiming 'federal government subsidised training' and things like that. It's not true. Higher education in Nigeria is designed as such. You can't compare how much it takes to study Mass Communication in Nigeria with the same abroad. Education is -supposedly- subsidized for everyone going to a government university. There is no enough number of doctors in Nigeria to begin with. Our schools are not training enough because they lack the capacity to do so. Even UI doesn't have accreditation to admit up to 250 students for medicine in a year. Nigerian medical schools barely churn out a few hundred doctors yearly. So the brain drain isn't simply because they are leaving, the brains are not even there in the first place. Again, doctors are not the only ones emigrating. For every doctor, five nurses have gone. For every healthcare worker, ten non medical have gone. Shouldn't we be worried about our tech guys leaving? What about infrastructure when the engineers have finished leaving? What about our trained teachers? Or the thousands of agricultural graduates who could potentially help deal with our food supply deficits. Furthermore, why are people leaving at all. No bill can stop people from getting out. Eventually, they will abadon medicine and go do whatever in the abroad if that's what they think is necessary for their survival. Even senior doctors are leaving same as senior executive staffs of various companies. So it's about the country being a mess and people looking out for their best interests, nothing ignoble about that. This bill is repressive. It should not be defended under any guise. Sadly, medicine is one of the toughest places to work these days. This is an unnecessary distraction and heating up of the policy. 3 Likes |

Georgejeez: Sometimes, i wonder where cretaures like you emerge from! Who told you doctors are trained with taxpayers money in Nigeria, for God's sake Did you ever pass through a University in Nigeria? If so, did you ever pay school fees and other dues from your 1st to the final year? Again, if so, did you get all those money from the government? Now, do you know that medical students spend far more that whatever amounts you spent during your own schooling? Do you know that many of us whose parents are/were average had those parents borrowed and/or sold valuable properties to be able to afford their training fees? May God never give any country more than one of such creatures that reason like you. More than one of you in any country would be a disaster. 2 Likes |

The Bill is titled, “A Bill for an Act to amend the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act, Cap M379, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to mandate any Nigerian-trained medical and dental practitioner to practice in Nigeria for a minimum of five years before being granted a full license by the Council in order to make quality health services available to Nigeria; and for related matters (HB.2130)”. There is nothing about preventing them from leaving the country Why not a bill to regulate politicians recourse abroad for treatment. Before any politician is recommended for treatment abroad there must be a proof that such ailment CANNOT be treated or managed in Nigeria. Also, a bill to regulate politicians' acquisition of foreign education for their children should state that ONLY courses not done in Nigerian universities should be sought abroad by their children 3 Likes |

How about raising a bill that stipulate that no government officials/workers and their Family should go abroad for any medical treatment throughout their terms. Let's start with that and any other thing can be accepted in this country..... |
