Similar thing happened to Egypt who held Israel bound for over 400 years. They did not want to let them go, they even gave a decree that all male babies be thrown into the Jordan. When Jehovah punished them with plagues and their army with death in the Red Sea, was God punishing an innocent generation with the sins of the ancestors or for their own sins by following the wicked ways of their fathers, even doing worse?
