While house helps are a necessity sometimes, they don't have to be live-in. Send her away and hire a middle aged woman who has working hours everyday or a number of times a week. Whatever is left of the chores you and your wife should be able to manage that. That's the most sensible thing to do IMO.
No point bearing up under constant temptation. There's only so much a man can bear before breaking. As for your friend, I think you should you should ditch him. He doesn't have your interest at heart.
