dedeike: kobojunkie, you re a chronic liar. Gej never gave a timeline to power today. Stop hating and distorting facts. He also did not avoid giving answers posed to him on power. What he said clearly was that the Minister of power had given a detailed account of activities in the power sector during the ministerial platform series. So he may not want to contradict him but that he will offer a summary. He now went ahead to talk about the revival of NIPP and how he is using that to beef up generation to the national grid. He hinted that during his trip to Brasil, he was able to attract a foremost Brasilian Electricity company to come and invest in Nigeria's power sector. What don't you understand about this. Or you just want to deliberately misinform people on Nairaland?

the woman is yet to say what her real problem is...I am pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with Nigerians growth

uzomagic: You want action, you got it; power sector- NIPP, Bulk trader agreement for gas supply, Mambila and Zungeru power plants, distribution deals with General Electric, Siemens, and investments by 131?countries from around the world, Port reforms have made the process of clearing goods has become a much easier venture, In education 9 new Universities have been established to meet the increasing demand for tertiary education. In security, govt has increased funding to security agencies, given greater support and renewed impetus to the efforts to meet the Nation's security challenges.

I'm not talking about MAGIC here. We want real action!

There's still totally blackout in my area. This month alone, over 80 lives were lost on different road mishaps on Lagos/Ibadan expressway. Where's the action? Clearing of goods became easier or cheaper?
Security? How much more was given? When? Did you heard what happened in Bauchi, Anambra and Damaturu today alone?

GE, Siemens and other investors hasn't have any direct impact on the common man in the country. Pass

Kobojunkie:

I believe the very first thing we need to stop doing, as Nigerians, is LYING on BEHALF of politicians. Are you suggesting that a trip to a photo-op that many in the environmental community now deem a failure, was part of president's duties but staying back to fight the scourge blowing Nigerians to smithereens is not?

Do you know that many other countries stayed away from Brazil . . . we are talking countries dealing with their own crisis. . . nothing close to what Nigeria is dealing with. Greece and Spain of course stayed away. United States, England, Germany, stayed away, about 20 others also did. Why? because many of them were busy tackling issues such as their economy, something that seemed to be top on their priorities at this time. Nigeria's issue? Terrorism but instead, our President flies off to an Environmental summit.
KOBOJUNKIE FOOLING HIMSELF ONCE AGAIN. The summit was well attended. BEYOND discussion on environment, GEJ held talks with BRASILIAN president who assured him of reciprocating the vist to Nigeria with a high powered delegation. Bilteral ties with both countries were strengthened. AND most importantly, Brasilian Electric Company signed an MOU WITH GEJ to come and invest in our power sector.

Now, when you talk of Government grinding to a halt, I wonder if you know the reason why we have a vice president at all. Nothing stopped or diminishes Government if the President sent the VP in his stead. I mean even Yar adua, who did not somehow trust Jonathan, at least knew to send someone else in his stead (his wife on occassion) so he could stay back in Nigeria and pretend he cared for the people. Now I am holding brief for that man but he did get some things right.
LOOK AT HIM CONTRADICTING HIMSELF. on one breadth he said the govt cannot grind to a halt becos there's a VP yet he turns around to crticise GEJ for traveling. What is that thing that GEJ must do In those 3 days that SAMBO cannot do? Even YARADUA always endeavoured to attend international obligations even in his ill health. If in doubt, I refer you to read Olusegun Adeniyi's POWER, POLITICS AND DEATH.

Which Boko Haram leader? The ones the US only this week put on terrorist list abi which one again? No prominent Boko Haram leader was killed. . The man that was killed was ALLEGEDLY linked but no information provided past that that definitively ties him to the leadership of Boko Haram.
I remember back in 2009, we were told the leader of Boko Haram had been killed. To this day, no one knows what the truth really was. We know a man was killed, and his family later won a case for over 100 million for his brutal killing, and that is that. Who is to say this killing will not end the same way? Will we ever know the truth of what really happened? Not sure but if you do find out let us know however don't come lying to those of us who also read the same reports on these cases as you do in the papers.
LOOK AT HIM DISPLAYING HIS BIAS AND IGNORANCE AGAIN. Even a toddler in Nigeria knows that Hammed Baba, a Boko Haram leader who masterminded attacks on Force Headquarters, UN building, etc was killed by JTF last week.

Really? That you made this statement yourself reveals you do not have faith in the man dealing with the issues. So I pretty much don't need to add anything.
The guy obviously watched the chat, I'm sure you watched yours on Nairaland and I hve proof to that effect

There are certain situations where the president can make a public pronouncement before sending it to senate to ratify....
He just signed the uniuyo into existance...Gowon gave bakassi to camaroon....

better yet...if the senate rejects it....then the unilag name reverts....

But why is your bad belle so much for this gentle man who has become our presido?

None of those situations includes amending an existing law validly passed by the legislature of the Federal Republic of Nigeria! Renaming Unilag can ONLY be done by an act duly passed by the National Assembly amending the University of Lagos Act 62 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not by a pronouncement of GEJ.

Hope this clarifies for yourself and Ekwah, you guys can avail yourself of a Senior Secondary School textbook on Government should you guys have missed that class by chance while in school

Are you blind? Abi you no no how to read english abi wetin?

You are informed that the CCB refuses to apply FOI. Read what the constitution at least says on how this all should be handled(THIRD SCHEDULE -3) The Constitution says that information should be available to every Nigerian citizen to review, but it is not. Even with FOI, no one is able to verify that the information even really exists. And it has nothing to do with the LAW but everything to do with the presidency refusing to make this record available as the law stipulates it should be.

How can you come here to say he did something that by law you should be able to see, but you can't and so cannot verify if it even exists? How? Stop pretending you win when you fight on behalf of politicians. Stand for the law no matter who is affected! That is common sense!
why are you always making a public show of your naivety? That the constitution provides that such information should be available for public access does not translate to publi declaration of assets. The law is explicit on the fact that such declaration should be made before swearing in an oath form prescribed by the CCB, it didn't say go to channels or AIT or NTA to make a public declaration of such assets.

I saw when somebody challenged you to furnish evidence of when Fashola or any of your ACN principals declared his assets. You tactically dodged the answer and rather dwelt more on his reference to you as "ACN..HEN". The truth is that you don't know any better. If you were knowledgeable enough on this issue, you would hve told him that Fashola and others including President GEJ and his vice indeed declared their assets in the oath form prescribed and it's deposited with the CCB. It behaves on any Nigerian who desires to see the content to take diligent steps to approach CCB for access to information contained in such form.

Thankfully, GEJ has signed the long awaited FOI act which guarantees you access to such information. Make use of it and stop blabbing

The mere pronouncement of renaming doesn't in any way translate to actual renaming of the institution. It's a mere pronouncement similar to the way we hve been talking about FOI since 2003 till President Gej signed it into law last year. I don't know why we are overfogging this issue even after the President had forwarded an amendment bill to the senate to that effect. It would also interest you to know that Unilag is not the only institution involved, the amendment bill includes that of University of Agriculture Umudike to Micheal Okpara University after almost 12 years that President Obasanjo renamed the institution. Even President Gej revealed today that he just recently signed the Act establishing UNIUYO to law.

kobojunkie, just admit that you were more interested in spreading falsehood on Nairaland than paying attention to the presidents speech during the chat.

The question was, Mr. President why didn't you declare your assets publicly. the president now responded that he always had issues with declaring his assets publicly because it was beyond what the law says. He says the one he declared publicly as VP wasn't so long before he took over as acting president. Stop spreading your ignorance further. Ask anybody you know in authority, Assets declaration forms must be filled before any swearing in ceremony is performed. It's a precondition that must be fulfilled.

Why do you think the opposition in the House has kept quiet over it? Ordinarily, failure to declare assets is an impeachable offence because it violates the constitution so the ACN or CPC in the National Assembly would hve headed for Gej's neck if he had breached it. But that's not the case. GEJ declared his assets in the frm but it is his principle not to make it public and it's extra constitutional to do so

Stop pretending you win when you fight on behalf of politicians. Stand for the law no matter who is affected! That is common sense!

Nigerians are there own worst problems. The Constitution stipulates that before you are sworn in, you have to declare your assets.
One of the many liars on here, who lied earlier that Jonathan already declared his asset, when confronted with the president's own words admitting he did not declare his assets, decides he can fool his own self by claiming the President is allowed by law to SKIP OUT on declaring his asset before he is sworn in because he has done it before. What moronic silliness is that?

The law stipulates it be done before beginning duties, that means, you do it(no matter how many times you have done it before) before you being sworn-in. Of course people can get re-elected, and each term is considered a brand new term requiring a swearing-in ceremony before duties begin, hence a new declaration of asset. If Jonathan Goodluck gets re-elected come 2015, will he then declare that since he was sworn-in back in 2011 for his first term, there would be no reason for him to be sworn-in again for him to begin his second term in office?
Why would anyone in Nigeria wake up to pretend he should deceive a fellow Nigerian on behalf of a politician who does not even give a darn?

All they are talking about is How He speaks....How He hasn't pronounced words....and by the way, why is it that we have degenerated so low as a Nation to be abusing our President online. We may have political differences but to build our Nation is our common business as Nigerians. Quit attacking the man's person, criticise issues and suggest on this forum what YOU think is possible otherwise change your dial and go watch football.

In a country, where 99% are blind. In a country where 99% can not make intelligent arguement devoid of sentiments and emotions. In a country where the arguements of about 99% can not withstand intellectual and logical scrutiny, the one-eyed man will continue to be the king. Nigeria will continue to be a joke as long as we continue to allow misfits to continue to rule. Is the end to these in sight? definitely not. At least not with the tacit support of some proudly ignorant folks here who are mostly paid to support mediocrity. Yes it is said that "he that settles for lowered standards celebrates mediocrity". That is the situation of Nigeria today. Some support mediocrity because of lack of knowledge. Others support it because of the financial gains the reap from such unholy support. The media chat today, was not dissappointing to me after the last disgraceful media chat where the president was shamelessly defending oil thieves. Let me say that no amount of preaching, sermonizing or inaction can change any nation, Nigeria in particular. Yes Jonathan was right to order investigations but the crucial part of the issue is ensuring that no crime goes unpunished. At least that is how decent countries operate. Nigeria, to my estimation has the highest number of financial fraudstars in both the private and public circus at least as we read in the papers everyday yet non (at least the big ones) are going to jail. None since 1999. This country will never move forward until we set up an enquiry to look into how all monies appropriated since 1999 till date at all levels-local to federal, were used and all those found to have stolen the money made to pay back and sent to jail. Anything short of that will amount to continued celebration of incompetence and mediocrity. You can see that this is a tall task for our incompetent leaders and their supporters most of whom are paid to attack anyone that opposes Jonathan's methods. Let me also say that I have come to this conclusion that the biggest mistake we ever made as a nation was allowing the whiteman leave on October 1, 1960. Had they continued to stay, say till 1990, Nigeria would have continued to maintain the giant of Africa status. I took this conclusion after waiting patiently to see things change since 1999. I will also love to be proved wrong that a black man especially the Nigerian type can lead intelligently in the mist of largely ignorant, mischievous and docile citizenry. Paid agents over to you
