PoliticsRe: Jonathan Should Stop Naming Ethnic Groups In The North And Sw by 9ijaMan: 6:15pm On Mar 24, 2011
Since there is no tangible achievement GEJ can talk about at his campaigns, what else do you guys expect of him? If he's not promising 36 airports in the 36 states, he'll be spewing comments like an ethnic bigot.

Jimmy Boy:
Those of us who watched the debate on NN24 saw the beauty of spontaneous questions thrown at the the three contestants, we were able to see a Ribadu that will tactically deny a statement we all believe he made.

Secondly, we  all know that there is not going to be any better question that will be asked in the proposed debate of March 29, that has not been asked already during the debate on NN24. The questions touched all fundamental issues affecting the country i.e Infrastructure, Security,Health Care, Education, Niger-Delta, Power,Corruption  and most especially, questions were asked about past conducts of the three contestants. Therefore attending another debate will not add any value to both the contestants and the electorate.

So, President Jonathan   can go solo and face the nation with both questions and answers already tabled before him.

I am sorry to say this to my President, but I know he will stil goof even with the "Orijo" in front of him.

Is anybody out there willing to bet with me?
I sure will not bet with you, 'cos you are right.

Jarus:
If I were Buhari, Ribadu or Shekarau, I will show up for this debate. But I don't see their pulling out as out of order. Agreeing that only BON, government's official broadcasting medium, should be the sole organiser gives room for suspicion. How can BOn convince us that they have not given the questions to the president ahead? How can they prove to us that there has not been threat by FG to BON, its agency, that they risk losing their job they give the president tough time?
Jarus I tend to disagree with you on this one. There's nothing the other candidates will gain in attending a debate with GEJ.

Guys, this is a succinct line I copied from a post on FB.

"Their excuse for not showing up for the debates is laughable to say the least. Claiming the debate wont be watched by the masses because its not on NTA?? go out on the streets and ask any pure water seller, any danfo driver, any okada rider, any member of the president's cabinet, his aides, even he himself, ask them what football club they support, then ask them if they watch these football clubs on NTA every weekend"

I couldn't help but laugh when I read the comment.

KBrown:
Honestly, my friend mistakay, if the truth must be told, most of us who are GEJ supporters love him because of his soft and nice nature. However, I am gradually getting inclined to shift my support to the BB ticket. Sorry, to disappoint Beaf who apparently loves GEJ just like myself, or even more. It will be fool-hardy for me to continue to believe that GEJ with his soft approach can tackle the evil men that oils corruption in our land. We will be fooling ourselves if we expect the saboteurs who import generators to give in without a serious fight or if we expect those who benefit from importation of refined petroleum products to sit back and allow local refineries to work. Very unfortunately, these are the people who populate the PDP! Definitely, we would be asking for too much from our beloved GEJ if we expect him to suddenly become enemies of these hawks after the elections (as I have expressed on this forum in the past). They will work against him from within the party and eventually impeach him.
On the other hand, one can clearly see that a mention of Buhari's name alone sends jitters to the spines of the corrupt-minded. It therefore becomes a duty for me as a true lover of my country to shift my support and vote for the BB ticket. It is obvious that Nigeria as a country stand to overcome many of her problems if corruption is defeated as Buhari is wont to do. My only prayer is that being so powerful, God would not allow Buhari to become as despotic as the strong man of Libya.
I supported GEJ up to this moment because of my belief that "If he can make it, I can make it" but sorry, he is too, too soft for the kind of demons that are holding Nigeria down now. Nigeria needs a strong leader, with strong institutions to get out of the woods. I am also happy for him because he has already made it! For now, for the love of my country, Buhari seems to be the answer!  God bless my country, Nigeria.
You have indeed shown the character which we pray every single Nigerian can imbibe. You are very much welcome on board the BB train. Join us on this thread to spread the gospel:

Be honest with yourself, did the opposition bring up this excuse from GEJ before now, they just brought this up to public notice now that they are refusing to attend this debate--- no one knew they were so accommodating to GEJ, bringing up this excuse now is lame.
I do not think it's your right to start trying to understand when and how the opposition comes to make available to the public all the backroom negotiations that took place in order for the NN24 debate to take place. What you and your likes should be doing is how move into the damage control mode to salvage whatever is is left of GEJ's face!
PoliticsRe: Buhari, Ribadu, Shekarau Pull Out Of BON Debate by 9ijaMan: 1:25pm On Mar 24, 2011
Sky Blue:
I beg to disagree. It would take more than this occurence to set a standard and such is a weak argument. In most instances what will allow the president to continue flagrant abuse of power is a docile populace. This is about winning an election which the opposition doesn't seem prepared to accomplish. This is not a boyfriend girlfriend quarrel, it is an election. You can claim that Jonathan abused power and you will get no disgreements from me. Ok, he abused power, what next? We are approaching the end of March. Elections are in April! And the opposition is going to boycott what would probably be the most widely aired debate visible to a larger section of the boting public because they want to make a point? What point? That they can't deal with Jonathan in a debate because he might know the questions before hand? Are they that dumb? Is it so difficult to take on Jonathan even with possible expo? Sure we can all cry unfair, but they would be doing themselves more damage by staying away. I for one have heard more than enough banter from the "opposition" about how they can be better. Time to put theory into practise or spare us please. To do that, you have to win an election, to do that, you have to convince people registered to vote to vote for you.

It is sad and desperately pathetic enough that in a country with so much human capital we are still left with the major choice of selecting between an ex military dictator who appears sincere but seems a tad clueless, the loud mouth ex EFCC chairman whose major selling point during debate was that he is "young" and has had to recant on a lot of corruption allegations he made during his ineefective tenure, and of course the PHD holder who appears anything but, shackled to a corrupt party and surrounded by corrupt individuals. I really wish ACN had fielded Adeola and Buhari had fielded a different VP. Let us not make it worse by making it so easy for PDp to sweep the coming elections.
You've made your point. However what you fail to understand is that those Nigerians who will really be interested in the so called debate have already had their minds made for them after the first debate. If this debate were to have been the first one, then the issues you raise would be very valid. As a matter of fact, these 3 candidates have a lot more to gain by boy-cutting this D'Banj Kokolete styled debate when compared to making themselves available.

Your assertion that this debate would probably be the most widely aired debate is certainly not valid as well, at least the absence of these 3 candidates will surely take the shine out of such a debate. Millions of Nigerians saw the NN24 debate live. I saw it on the web even though I'm almost 8000km away from 9ja, and the same applies to many more at home and abroad. The debate is still available to date online and anyone who cares to listen to any of the candidates still has the opportunity to see them air their views on how to go about solving some of the problems plaguing our national development.

I personally would have been more disappointed in these candidates if they didn't come out to jointly make the announcement. What you failed to understand is that GEJ refused to attend the NN24 debate even after he fixed the date to suit his plans. I guess we should all await BON to come out to inform us that all the candidates agreed to attend this second debate.
PoliticsRe: El-dee Decries the Manipulative Use of his Name By GEJ Campaign Team by 9ijaMan: 12:19am On Mar 24, 2011
Pharoh:
Let me explain what has just happened in this scenario if you don't understand.

Lets take the Anglican church for example, they have different doctrines directed from the headquarters. Whatever decision is made means that the whole Anglican church agrees to it and they do not need have to consult the other divisions. They could say let us start an education fund for church members and it is just like a band wagon effect and every one agrees. But when they allowed gay bishops from the headquarters, the african subdivision came out that we do not support this and would like to break away.

This is the situation on ground, dbanj was the leader of the our team organization and they have been doing concerts and reaching out to youth to register and vote. They agreed to some guidelines which if followed they do not need to consult any member  before using their image or name on behalf of the organization. They said they won't endorse any politician because their aim is to drum up the awareness for people to register and vote for their choice candidates.

Dbanj as the leader of this organization decides to change the direction of the ourteam movement. He goes on to organize one of those their concerts but now endorses goodluck which is against their principles. He goes ahead to use the names and pictures of the members as usual. Eldee comes out and says that he was not consulted before the change of direction and he is not a party to this new direction.  It is against his own principles or the ideas of the movement so dbanj is the culprit here and not goodluck campaign team.

Goodluck and co are attending a concert being organized by dbanj and who is responsible for mobilizing the artist to perform on that day. It is not goodluck or his campaign team that selected those artist but dbanj. This is the point i am making to you that you should focus on dbanj who included eldee's name without consultation.

Many companies outsource their manufacturing activities to Chinese companies but they are not the ones responsible for the child labour or inhuman conditions used by these companies to make these products.
Do you guys always have to use lies to buttress your points? When was D'Banj ordained as the leader of the group? Anyways you are just as knuckleheaded as your benefactor.

Once again I was almost shedding tears after reading the beautiful piece on Buhari's performance when he led PTF. How many leaders do we have in this country who possess half of Buhari's integrity. I managed to hold back my tears of joy for Buhari's achievements, but could not help to be sad that we have men in government whose sole aim to day is to loot the nation dry. The future of Nigeria has been practically mortgaged by the GEJ led PDP government.

Nigerians, let's for once get it right and move the nation back on track by voting out the PDP looters in government.

BTW these GEJ cronies are deceptively cutting short GEJ's tenure as Bayelsa state governor. GEJ became Bayelsa governor on the 9th of December 2005 and left office on the 28th of May 2007, and was sworn in as VP on the 29th of May 2007. GEJ was governor for almost 18 months.
By the end of May 2011, GEJ would also have been ruling Nigeria for 16 months, yet there's nothing tangible to show for it.

This same way majority of Buhari supporters (those in the crowds) are clamouring for Buhari for the simple fact that tribally speaking, he is one of them!! If it were for intergrity, they surely wouldn't celebrate a Southerner with even more integrity than Buhari. Truth is ethnicity and religion are the strongest factors in Nigerian politics and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Even in the USA, race is a still a strong factor in politcis and the economy. That doesn't say I support it though, it is just plain backward!!
And who are these majority of Buhari supporters are you referring to? Are the crowds who attended his rallies in Port-Harcourt, Ibadan and Owerri all northerners too? If tribalism were to have been the case, how come GEJ was also able to pull some crowd in the north? The are regions which has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that their choice has nothing to do with merit and/or achievements are the South-South and the South East regions. I just can't phantom why the likes of you find it easy to ascribe any move by the northerners to tribalism and religious bigotry, but fail to admit that such acts are even worse off in the SE and SS regions.

Beaf:
Lets agree you are a dunce and leave it at that. We have done this solar energy discussion numerous times on NL and in detail. That was before dunces like you whose "good morning" is a littany of swear words turned up.

Pick up your stones and follow Buhari in his lost cause of being the always present sham presidential candidate, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 (will be there 2015, 2019, 2023, probably as a ghost from 2027 onwards). grin
I've always told you that your folks should have simply set ablaze the hard earned cash they spent on your education, 'cos it's ever more obvious that you wasted the years spent on getting educated. Now I understand clearly why Buhari said we need to establish technical school, for surely such places are meant for hammerheads like you. Unfortunately your poor folks have been fooled by you to still assume they have a child who's seen the four walls of a higher institution.

If the contest on NL were to be about curses and abuses, you probably will not lag behind as some have alluded already. Unfortunately, the issue of power is far beyond what a twonk like you can ever comprehend.

For emphasis, the cost of solar power generation on a large scale in Nigeria will dwarf the cost of producing the same amount of energy using fossil fuels and/or hydro energy. Anyways, how do I blame you? If a PhD wielding president is unable to explain the meaning of a simple term such as job security, how can Beaf have a clue about energy generation.

Is the South African 5000MW on stream now?
South Africa currently has almost 40,000MW (40GW) on stream now and plans are on ground to double it to 80GW by 2025. That's what you call planning. South Africa's population if at best a third of Nigeria's, but the land mass coverage of RSA is just about 25% larger than Nigeria, yet they have almost 10 times power generation capability when compared to Nigeria.

No need to resort to insults my dear sir.

Efisher's post is still up for reference.
1,000MW (Megawatts) = 1GW
3,300MW (Megawatts) = 3.3GW

and 3.3GW is what efisher referenced to be 800 times the power generation of Nigeria. He did not say 3,300GW.
Kindly note that the United States generates around 4,400GW of electricity. Only a tiny amount of that is from wind power.
Thank you o my brother. I was about to correct this misconception when I saw your post.
Nigeria, according to the GEJ led government should be having about 4,000MW (MW = Mega Watt) at the moment. This is the same as saying 4.0GW (GW = Giga Watt).

1 GW = 1000MW
So 3.3GW added to energy output in China is less than 4000MW which Nigeria has at the moment.

Beaf:
No, you are looking at conventional means that work in temperate lands. Solar energy is by far the cheapest form of electricity for a place like Nigeria, but with the right technology.
However, lets leave the argument for another thread, where we can list every method, their costs and merits / demerits. This thread is packed with partisan boneheads that can't tell night from day.
Beaf, just chatap ya mouth. What you don't know you ought to be quiet about. Just STFU. Where did you get such a convoluted idea from? Spend some time on the internet to research about Solar Energy and compare it with the burning of fossil fuels and hydro power plants. Do not ignorantly make stup!d statements on areas way above your knowledge level.
