To say that these rites are emulations of Hindu religious practices couldn't be farther from the truth! The circulation around a place for seven times in worship is not necessarily an action of idol worshipping or paganistic. A similar action was taken by Joshua in the bible... Joshua 6: 12-17 "Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the Lord. 13 The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the Lord and blowing the trumpets. With regard to the white garment for worship by Muslims, it only symbolizes purity and uniformity. Mind you, there are white garment churches. Are these churches a division of Hindu religion or are they emulating the Hindus?? Finally, the crescent is only a symbol in Islam, nothing more. We don't even attach importance to it the way christians do with the cross; they hang it around their necks and draw imaginary crosses upon themselves. Claiming that the Shiva's Crescent is the same as Islam's is a less than smart lie. The Hindu's shiva only has a crescent as one of his many attributes, including the third eye on his forehead, the trishula weapon, the snake Vasuki around his neck and so on. The crescent of Islam is the only symbol. It has a star in it, while the Shiva's crescent has a different symbol within. Pictures 1 & 2 below are samples of Islamic Crescent while 3 and 4 are the Shiva's. They are NOT the same! Hence, the Hadith about the death penalty is not about apostasy in the strict sense of "no longer believing in Islam" per se. Rather, it is about what can be considered in modern terms political treason. Contemporary Muslim scholar Abdallah bin Bayyah previously commented on a problem in how modern Muslims approach scriptural sources where they "misunderstand the text, ignore the context, and thus misapply the ruling". It should be pointed out that the support for this penalty is not about a change in belief as much as it is about a change in political allegiances.
