It is up to the other football clubs in England to up the ante and compete with Man Utd.
When Jose Mourinho was running away with it between 2004 and 2006, Ferguson knew he had a helluva job to do and he upped the ante.
He built a title winning squad, challenged Jose and wrestled the title away from him. .
That is what we expect Wenger, Benitez n Hiddink to be doing. grin
Naah sometimes i'd rather side with the under-dog it makes their victory sweeter.Lol Wenger used to challenge too till he temporarily forget how to re-invent himself

Lahm will be disgraced on the night. . . .
Other teams in Europe play 2 strikers(maximum) but BARCELONA play 3 GOALSCORERS in Henry, Messi and Etoo.
The fluidity will pulverise Bayern Munich as the front 3 switch positions randomly thus giving their opponents a fucking 'mare.
Only an English side can stop Barcelona cos we defend better than any team in Europe. Bayern will drown with a goal margin not less than FOUR.
They have been neutralized before even though i doubt Bayern possess the manpower to do it but who knows Lahm just might step up all i am saying is the tie is not as one-sided as most might think

eyonigger:
A-40 and Sauron, you guys keep making false analysis about Barca, A-40 what makes u think ur Arsenal can screw Bayern over when Barca cannot as u have claimed? Sauron, It's lyk ur a Man-U fan, as for ur defense analysis, I'll rest my case until we meet an English side in the semi's, too bad we can only meet Man U in the finals, we would have shown them what a strong Barca side is even with ur 9 man defense tactics.
You guys are not all that you and i know any team with a decent forward line would pump y'all with goals as Athletico have proven.Bayern cannot last 90 minutes with us they would ejaculate prematurely like a one-minute man cheesy cheesy

hehe  cheesy  Bawo what say ye?
Joking Noah cannot possibly be as bad as Erick Dumbpier i would rather play Earl Boykins or Nate Robinson as my center than that idiot grin grin grin

JeSoul:
My brotha I knew he was getting special treatment but this season is just ridiculous  angry. Dude charges into the paint like a headless chicken and the officials automatically blow the whistle. The league must address this and I'm glad coaches and analysts are starting to speak up about it. And they must address the traveling rule too . . . dudes like Lebron have been getting away with it too much.
Its pretty frustrating and i have seen him run away with a couple of dodgy steals as well sometimes i wonder if all the refs in this league are on his payroll. As for Lebron well he does not hide his traveling does he sometimes lol he even went creative with it and called it the crab-walk cheesy cheesy

JeSoul:
Yeah they become palatable once you watch them with an exciting team such as the Suns . . . but remember their finals with Detroit few yrs ago? talk about a drag, it was prob the lowest rated finals ever  cheesy However I do like the upcomers on the team like Roger Mason. And I've liked Ginobili since he entered the league . . . his only problem is that sometimes he's inconsistent in his numbers n impact.

Anyways how una dey fare trying to hold on to that 8th spot? men, your reward will be a first Rd. exit at the hands of those Lakers  cheesy . . . unless ya'll can do to them when GS did to ya'll few yrs ago.
Hmm i am not sure it was the same finals we watched in 05 ooh!! did you miss Robert Horry's clincher in game 5 at the Palace? that was one of the most evenly contested Finals in playoff history it went all the way to game 7 and either team would have won it lol if that Final was boring what would you say about 07 Final one of the first NBA Finals game i would watch and doze off in the process most one-sided in history trust me the Spurs would not forget that Pistons series in a hurry
As for Ginobili the Spurs have no hope i mean no hope at all of challenging the Lakers if Ginobili does not get back to his flip-flopping best grin grin

My sista the 8th spot is not even promised PHX is only 3 games behind or thereabout and if we do make the playoffs then we would be lucky not to get swept by the Lakers in 4 games i don't see us doing a Golden State Warriors upset not on Kobe or Gasol's watch we have to move up those standings undecided undecided

Sometimes a little criticism doesn't hurt y'all can remember early last season when Adebayor was shyte? a little verbal abuse and he improved big-time same thing for Eboue who has started scoring goals in alarming frequency heck 3 goals in a month no be small thing when you consider the fact that prior to that time he has only managed 2 in almost 3 years as an Arsenal player these days i am not in such a hurry to call Song a mofo because he seems to have grown in confidence especially with the ball so you see sometimes players react better to criticism than back-pats lets see how Adebayor responds when he gets back

Bluediva and co. y'all should stop it!!! as infuriating as it is to know that most Chelsea fans joined after Mourinho copped them their first league title in donkey years there is no rule book that says it is not allowed to glory-hunt cheesy cheesy

As for me i wasn't always a Premiership person back in them mid and late 90's as a young'in i would rather watch the Serie A (i enjoyed Milan and Fiorentina (because of Batistuta) La Liga (Barca,Madrid Athletico and Deportivo La Coruna where always fun to watch) and of course the Bundesliga (i was a Bayern Munich and BVB Borrusia Dortmund fan and don't accuse me of glory-hunting i was in my 8's 9's and early teens)

I started with Arsenal in 2001 because i was sick of Utd winning the league year in year out and Arsenal always seemed to give them a run for their money and i also had close family friends who where down with the Gunners and as time went on i mutated from a passive fan to an active fan

When I said I wanted to meet Manure or Assanal, it was because I stand a 70% chance of qualification.

If I was playing Barca with a tactical coach I would be more at ease but Klinsi with his Gung ho style might not cut it.

You cant beat Barca at their game. Klinsi should realise he has to take the ball off the floor. Barca is weak aerially and on counters not by outplaying them on the floor. Give Barca the ball but be ready to work hard and counter them really fast.

Unfortunately one of the best guys in aerial battles Klose would miss the game that makes it very difficult for us but not impossible.
If I were Bayerns coach I would co to Nou camp with

                                   RENSING

    ODDO       DEMICHELIS       LUCIO        LAHM

      ALTINTOP/BOROWSKI  VAN BOMMEL   ZE ROBERTO

             SCHWEINSTEIGER             RIBERY

                                     LUCATONI

The best left side in European football meets the best right side. Classic!!!!!!!!
You have little to fret about still!! few teams have taken the game to Barca this season but the teams that did got joy. .The only sore point is your defense and your keeper is equally as average as Barca's if not worse but if Lahm can pocket Messi and your defense line avoids folding under any Barca pressure then y'all would be fine besides you people seem to know how to play Spanish sides.

PS: You don't stand a chance against this current Arsenal team y'all would be chopped and screwed

Seriously angry. It's a shame to the league. That play yesterday on Stucky was a foul, and if it had been reversed with Wade taking the shot he woulda gotten the foul. To add insult on top he was outta bounds when he caught the rebound. I hope Stern does something about how officiating is biased in favor of the stars mostly Wade.
Now you see how we got mugged back in 06 undecided undecided angry angry

Why now? The Spurs are consummate professionals & Duncan n co have a handful of rings to their credit. The only thing we all have against them is that they are boring to watch. Though Parker and Ginobili do keep things intresting a bit.
Duncan might be boring but i don't think the rest of the Spurs are they play efficient basketball and thats what counts the Spurs are boring is a myth i once believed but not anymore after watching their playoff series with the Suns and the Mavs

If u did, u would know it was Fulham that were on the ropes for a long spell in the 2nd half despite the fact that United were a man down.
Had United scored 3 goals in the 2nd half, Roy Hodgson wouldn't have complained.
United are starting to crack?? I heard the same thing when United lost to Chelsea at the Bridge last season and Chelsea tied United on points.
Ferdinand kicked a female steward, Evra punched a Chelsea steward and the whole world caved in. . .The crazy media also said United were starting to crack. . . . .The last time we cracked, we won the UCL and the PREM in a space of 1 week. grin cheesy
On the contrary i suspect you followed that game via Al-Jazeera y'all only had a glimmer of hope in the 2nd half because of Fulham's mediocre strikers! Johnson and Zamora where shyte all through 90 mins they where absolute gar-barge especially Zamora he had at least 3 chances to bury y'all scumbags in the first half and he blew it besides why not check the stats and find out how many shots on goal you could manage in the first half? just 1!! y'all where rattled from start to finish i doubt you can convince yourself that that was a true Utd performance

This season was different from last season first and foremost y'all where not on a wild quintuple goose chase and you didn't get sodomized in Fort Knox Lost by Liverpool only to lose in a more scandalous margin to Fulham whatever happened to the bouncing back theory Man U never loses back to back games? well like i said before the signs where there you guys just refused to see it
We still have a game in hand. . . . . . . .
Today's game was United's 51st game this season. . . . .Chelsea's 45th and Liverpool's 44th.
That United are still competing in all fronts is a testament to their STERLING QUALITY.

Rafa Benitez?? U are having a laugh, mate!!!
I believe if Benitez continues to progress through the Champions League and stay within touching distance of the league, it will be the first time in his Liverpool managerial career where he's not been able to afford to take his eye off one of those competitions, right??
Does he possess the experience to last that distance?? Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, No!!!

As Chelsea fans can attest, it's one thing to be within touching distance of the two biggest trophies available to your club, and quite another (something dependant on huge fortune, which isn't a thing you can account for no matter your supposed levels of tactical genius) to push through and clinch both.
A seasoned observer would tell you only Chelsea and prolly Arsenal to some extent can nick the title away from Man Utd.
Liverpool lacked the belief. . . .Even if they go on top, they will def'ly press the self-destruct button again and fall 7 points behind by May. grin
A game in hand does not count till you win it! I thought you knew

All i know is a Liverpool win today would put y'all under serious pressure and would blow a once foregone title race open again.Chikena grin grin

Well Barcelona was the toughest opponent I could have possibly had no doubt. Everyone likes things easy including Dayokanu Thats why I have been screamin for Assanal and bootycall Man utd the easy options. but guess I have to do it the hard way. Beating Barcelona demands tactical awareness and I doubt Klinsmann has that.
If it was Hitzfeld It would have been easier for us but Klinsmann that wants to be the Brazil of 1982 with his attacking football.

There is a way to catch Barca and that is dead balls unfortunately Klose would be out. All free kicks and corner kicks should be made to count (Portugal vs Germany) Our Aerial prowesswould be one Big thing for us to utilise
Why do you sound so scared? y'all can beat Barca if you take the game to them and y'all have the players in Ribery and Schweini besides Toni is still there and who knows Podolski might come good you also have a 12th man in your team in the Barca goalie Victor Valdes

Nice thread though and i commend your initiative. Those when men were boys and Nigerian clubs cum soccer league had substance. The reason for this is not far-fetched,when you have the core of your national team plying their trade in thier home land,of course your league can not but be a beauty to behold. Not just in the eye of the beer holder.

Andrew Uwe,Owolabi,Segun Odegbami,Christian Chukwu et al all gave us nostalgic moments we will not forget in a hurry.Even in the late 80's and early 90's,things were not this bad.I could remember vividly the fierce rivalry between Super Stores and Flying Antelope.Collins Ebitimi(Barbwire) vs Charles Anazodo.A match slated for 4pm naija time @ the national stadium in Surulere and you couldn't get entrances anymore as early as 1pm. :oOh how i miss the notorious popular side at the national stadium,Surulere.Where everyone is a pundit cum analyst.

BCC Lion and Enyimba gave us somethings to be proud of by winning laurels in the later part of the 90's and 2000's but then what has happened now?

All players MUST ply their trade overseas even players in mauritius will get better media coverage before they can be looked at.talk about the second slave trade tongue
Nigeria was still good back in them days now! Who rescued Liverpool in CL final 05? Was it Gerrard, Smicer, Hamman or who exactly? Don't tell me you swallowed the "Roy of the Rovers" story line hook line and sinker. Where was Gerrard in the first half when Kaka was urinating on Liverpool's midfield? It was only when Hamman came on the pitch that Gerrard grew some balls. Was Gerrard the only person that scored in that match?

You have just provided justification of your label as an axiomatically inclined idiot. Since you swallow the widely held axioms that Makelele and Essien do all of Lampard's work, pray tell, what are Mascherano and Alonso's business on the pitch?

Gerrard plays further forward than Lampard. He is playing just behind Torres. He certainly is not worried about defensive responsibility as much. Still Lampard is outscoring him, out-assisting him, out-whatever you wanna call it. If Lamps passes are all sideways, why is he also out-assisting Gerrard?

Gerrrard produces in big games? True! When have you heard that Lamps doesn't produce in big games? CL final last year was not a big game? The only difference between the two scenarios is Dudek saved his penalties and Cech didn't. Gerrard is just a product of the English hype. You can rank him with Bobby Moore, Gazza and the rest of them when it comes to hype.

Defensively sef, the stats would astound you. Go and tell any Chelsea fan that Lamps does not track back, I am sure you will get a curt response.
Take this personal? You must be new on Nairaland  grin grin

Bros football is a game of two halves expecting one team to dominate the entire 90 mins is rather naive i am not sure i saw Kaka in that stadium in the 2nd half
He scored the goal that brought them from the dead and it was his driving run that led to the 3rd goal for the equalizer the way Gerrard inspires that Liverpool team cannot be quantified with flimsy stats

And you are a babylonian bloodclot a biased one at that and i owe you no apologies for labeling you such  grin grin only a deranged alcoholic would compare workhorses like Essien and defensive midfield impresarios like Makelele to inconsistent and injury prone Alonso or Mascherano who is not yet the finished article

They are both central midfielders and Gerrard roams more often so please don't tell me Lampard tracks back half as often as Gerrard lets not even talk about Stevie G's versatility here

I would like to see the links to some of these your stats especially the defensive ones

Gazza was not hyped unless you don't know your footie he just lacked discipline thats what killed his career
