Roland17: Not making excuses for the bums but do you blame them entirely? Their leaders are worse and are the reasons why the Army and by extension the entire military is in such mess! Rather than being on the front line, their leaders are busy accumulating unexplained wealth and properties in the midst of penury suffered by the soldiers. Since lower cadre soldier lack the ability to loot not because of the lack of will but a lack of reach, they can only show/impose relevance by doing stupid things. There is absolutely no accountability in the military, if there was, there would be no reason why we should be fighting Boko Haram for nearly 2 decades. I understand what you mean but when you see how they treat defenseless civilians that bear no threat at all to them whatsoever it's hard to respect or have any sense of empathy towards them. There's no reason our Army should not be accorded the respect and admiration that other uniformed men attract in other parts of the world |

Boris is not yet intubated, but is close to being so, and they are keeping ventilators close by.

I don’t think we have ever been in this situation before in our entire history as a country. I don’t think we have ever been in a situation where we lack ventilators in the country. afrodoc2 & Unlimited22 can shed more light on that.
This is not even about defending the govt, shouldn’t the govt be making efforts to get ventilators anywhere they can get? Is it until we have a spike in cases before they start looking for ventilators? Again you're missing the whole point. Lack of ventilators are just symptoms to the real issue. We have not even been hit by anything. This is not a crisis yet but that's either due to sluggish testing or just pure dumb luck because we do not even know the degree to which this virus has spread Begging for free ventilators cannot be classed as making effort my guy. The current reality is that we don’t have up to 500 ventilators in the whole country, maybe we should wait till people starts dieing before we start looking for where to get ventilators. You people always find a way to defend every reactive and terrible lack of planning and resource management by this administration You can choose to ask but don't expect not to be dragged by the wrapper for your previous indiscretions. Why is this so hard to understand? People did not start dying today due to lack of ventilators or other essential health equipment, so I don't know if you expect us to start doing cartwheels just because we begged an individual to help us with ventilators, ventilators that 50 other countries are likely vying for |

It’s not like the $27bn loan was just considered today. When that loan package was drawn up, there was no covid-19 pandemic.
Go and read up the history of the loan. The initial loan FG sought approval for was $30bn from the Saraki led senate and only $7.3bn was approved from the loan. The rest were just reintroduced last year ending for consideration by the new senate. It's not about conflating anything. Like I said we are merely fortunate this disease has not spread badly enough to make our healthcare system look even worse than it is now. afrodoc2: Even if they import the ventilators who will operate them? How many healthcare workers based in Nigeria have expert experience in using them?
Practically every doctors’ strike over the years has been met with opposition by the general public and even here on NL.
Doctors complained about not being properly trained, equipped, or remunerated for years but the narrative that the people loved to believe was that of the lazy and greedy Nigerian doctor.
Now we have neither the equipment nor the staff to respond if this pandemic sweeps us like it has done in Europe and America. I can bet you if they dash us these ventilators some will still get resold. That's how wicked and fiendish our leaders are. It was that joker Charles Anazodo that was on Twitter the other day dragging doctors for going on strike while the Corona was about to start. This was the same ninja crying because Tiwa Savage didn't greet him the other day. afrodoc2: The ship on why Nigeria has so few ventilators has sailed. Do you guys realize we don’t even have enough doctors in Nigeria?
Like Dayo stated, all these are long term problems that were created by 60yrs of mismanagement and can’t be solved in 2 weeks.
What we should be focusing on now is what can be done to improve the situation RIGHT NOW, rather than lamenting or complaining about lack of facilities and equipment. This is where we get it wrong. Our not asking why is why we are always in this mess. We had Doctors being threatened with sack despite being owed months of salary. It's not about 60 years of mismanagement being solved in two weeks, it's that a country that wanted to borrow $500m for NTA less than 3 weeks ago is online begging for free ventilators. Whatever happens there is zero incentive for Tesla to give us ventilators ahead of responsible countries with more pressing needs for them |

raumdeuter: The Philippines is probably able to do this because they have a database of their citizen and how to identify them, Nigeria in 60yrs cannot say what our population is and we don't even have a national database to know or have unique identifier
The rice we were eating till like last year was it not from Phillipines that we import them, How many of the food they eat in Philippines is imported
What were we doing when Phillipines was building all these? When they say prepare for rainy days, these are examples of rainy days.
Airlines the largest user of fuel has lost almost 70% of their traffic, Oil is what we live and die on in Nigeria for the past 40yrs. When everyone was preparing for rainy days, Nigeria was chopping theirs for the past 60yrs. Imagine no functional railway, poor roads, bad education, bad health sector bad everything
Do you now expect we will have the results of Phillipines when we never put the preparations of Philippines into it?
If you a Xtian you remember the story of Joseph and Pharaoh where they prepared for famine for 7yrs. We never prepared for 1 day without food Nigeria is the weirdest country known to man. I have never seen a country collate so much data on its citizens but doesn't have any clue on how to centralize them quite like Nigeria Only Nigeria; International Passport Voter's card BVN National ID card (Multiple failed schemes) NIN Driver's License TIN Sim Registration When are our leaders ever going to find a way to harness this information for anything useful. |

In the end, na "Dem Dem" go still fix am for their house.
Upon all the billions and donations, it's like we have nothing [/color] Leadership is extremely irresponsible in this country. The nagging question should be why do we have so few ventilators to begin with? but all over social media I'm seeing people making faulty comparisons as if our own efforts at fighting the virus is at their scale at all.
