Hello Nairalanders

Am going for which is under Engineering college in my school. But

My GP didn't meet up to my course requirement and because of this, it was stated on my i20 letter that In my first year i will be required to complete a pre requisites course work.
It's also stated on my i20 that am majoring on general Engineering instead of computer Engineering or computer science.

* would this be a problem for me during interview. if so what should I do??

*And how do I explain to the vo about my choice of course. (Although am filling computer Engineering on my ds160)

I also started filling my ds160 and the require that I provide travelling date which am not yet sure of and also am required to provide where I will be staying while am in the US.

@Lagosismyhome
@Bigfrancis
@TheAmerican

And other gurus pls help a brother.

i will appreciate your responds and contributions. thanks.
@Perquisite- I can remember the same thing happened to me because I applied with HND, My I-20 also had General Engineering while i was going for Civil Engineering, All you had to do is explain to the VO they wrote general Engineering because you have to take perquisite in your first semester before you can start your computer engineering program the second semester.

@Travel Date - Everyone answered the same question when filing DS160, just put a date before the date on your I-20 resumption date.

@Address - Fill in the same school address you have on your I-20.

Hope This helps.

Thanks bro. I checked but most of their deadlines are this month and my search is actually restricted to the state of Illinois.
Bros there is no point rushing anywhere, you are obviously not prepared yet. Just calm down and settle for 2019. study well, take standardize exam to better you chance and make more inquiry about whatever you don't understand.

Tell him to translate it in English and if possible notarize it. That way there will be no super story from the embassy during your interview.

I have submitted bro. Thanks.
Avoid story and heart break! Fill another DS160 application and make sure everything is correct. Then go to your Visa appointment page and change the DS160 number on it. its so simple.... Please don't go to the embassy with the ds160 that does not have your picture oooo.... You dont want to waste your time and loose money at the same time.

Pls which schools can you recommend for someone based on the following
1. No standardized test required
2. Low application fees
3. 50%-above admission chances

Your responses will be much appreciated
Bros wait fess...... Are you really into this or you just want them say... the last time I checked, man best friend was google grin. Just use google and research different schools, that way you will learn a lot about different school and you can just come here for clarity and good questions.

dont really understand your question, but if want you meant is "if 3 months old statement of account is good?" Yes as long as it is not older than 6 months. I remember my statement of account was 4 months old when i did mine then, though the VO did not ask for it sha.

Please i need help
How can one order his documents or file to know the reason why he was denied entry
Don't think I understand you and if i do, I don't think there is anything like that. Check within yourself and recall how your interview went to find out what can be the cause.

NOTE: Sometimes there is no cause, its just the VO's gut, so give it another shot and prepare more in a better way that can convince yourself. Best of luck

I didn't want to say anything but it seems like you're "Mr know all" and it makes me want to believe that you really haven't been there as you claim.

This is the definition of transcript:
An inventory of the courses taken and the grades earned of a student alleged throughout a course. {Uncle please what do you have on a WAEC/NECO certificate? A picture? Bros that is also an inventory. 99% of people who has passed through this process only submitted their WAEC/NECO results but it is listed on every schools website as a transcript. Even some schools will give you a link to list of high school transcript acceptable from different countries, go there and check}

How does this correlate with WAEC/NECO. Even we here in Nigeria know that transcripts is a list of courses you've done throughout your secondary/university education.{Now i know WAEC result is a list of grades and not course, sorry bros}

Just take it easy and learn regardless of who's speaking. If you still have doubts about what I told you, Google scholarships for undergraduate students in the US, tell me the requirements and explain what the high school GPA {Your Nigerian High School does not use the GPA scale, it is your grades in WAEC that they use to calculate your GPA} is to me, then tell me how it is calculated by the school.

#peace
Naughtyvirgin:
Bless up fam...i just didnt want to argue with him since he seems like one who is ready to lookk for a partner to play in the mud with..we are all here to learn i believe. {Yes we are all here to learn and also pass what we know to others and thats y we have folks here that has been here for years helping others}
LagosismyHome:
i recall when my sister was processing her admission for "undergrad" about 4 years ago.........a lot of schools inaddition to WAEC/NECO still request for transcript which is your secondary school result . i think they grade both and weigh both to determine your strength , especially if you are targeting any time of funding
{Yes I support your point Sis, In some exceptional cases and scholarship cases, some school will ask for additional transcript like you said but initially what they usually require is your WAEC/NECO}

I think the main problem here is English. American English does not use the word result so much in academics, instead they use Transcript or Grades. And i believe this sometimes throw people off and i am still a learner in this too. Many times I have asked for Cutleries in a restaurant and no one knows what am talking about until I say Silverware.

Sorry Brothers if i sound mean or know it all, but am just giving my 2cents

Baba @ Dtus i hail sir. Please kindly assist me on how to go about this. (08169189508). Thanks.
LagosismyHome:
This has happened in the past and it was fine ... your ds160 should match your i20 dates . So in this case 3 years however

If you are ask how long is your program then you say 2 years but then explain what you stated above .... this is not unique to you so VO should be aware and I have seen this posted within the last 2 years a couple of times
Additionally, for clarification you can print a copy of the email sent to you by the school. and show to the VO incase you are asked about it. Most importantly, the date you will be filling on your DS160 must match that of your I-20.....

I just want to drop this here to inspire a few people, never give up on your dreams, provided they are genuine and you know what youre doing. Whilst this forum is good, i think a lot of standards here is not really the true situation when it comes to visa and all that.

So i had my visa approved yesterday 7/5/2018 after getting denied barely 2 weeks ago 23/4/2018. i will post both transcipts below

vo: (kept typing, looked at the docs for a while, passed back mine to me first, then kept looking at my dads and typing) is this your dads personal account or business account (told her its personal) whats your dads name (told her) continued typing then passed it back to me, continued typing, then she looked up and said the magic words,) gave me the white paper and told me ild recieve a text and all

All in all, i still believe prayer is the key, my interview lasted close to 4 minutes, plenty talk, i just tried to break it down small here. be confident, be fluent, and be firm. but pray pray pray like its all that matters, and be prepared too. shallom!
As much as I would have love to congratulate you boss, but telling us the name of your school and city will do you no harm instead you bleeped them out. The essence of putting your testimony here is for people to learn and at the same time get information and idea of schools to apply to and know the process.

Who knows, by you posting the name of your school, you might network with someone who is already in the school or who also just got admission to the school. That's what this forum is for. If everyone came here and bleeped out helpful information like you did, where will u be today? Giving back is giving back and not this way.

Congratulations still anyway.

Wrong info.
There's a difference between an high school transcript (grades from ss1 - ss3) and WAEC/NECO result. Don't mislead if you ain't conversant with the right info.

My 2 cents
Bros wait fess... don't castrate me if you don't know me, I know you are the boss here but small boys like us still have small info. I have been there, done that. No school is interested in your long first term to third term ss1-ss3 results, you are not the only applicant uncle. Your WAEC/NECO is your only official high school transcript. If thats how you did yours, kudos for wasting your time, you only played yourself.

Hello guys, please i need help with my situation and i feel i can get informed piece(s) of advice from here.

I applied to a couple of schools in the US and a school in South Africa to study MPH last year. This year january i was given admission to the school in South Africa to study MSc Epidemiology, but not MPH because it is offered as a part-time programme in the school. So i enrolled for it because i thought a bird at hand is better than none.

I have just been offered admission to my choice school in the US to study MPH(my choice program) for this fall, but my dilemma now is, can i appear for F1 visa interview here in South-Africa or i must return to Nigeria for the interview? And will the fact that i have a valid study visa for a masters program on my passport affect my chance?

Please your informed but candid advice is needed...thank you all for the brotherly care on here.
Well you can actually go for your visa interview anywhere provided you are a resident of that country, but my best advise for you is to jejely come back to Nigeria for your interview.

I believe the reason you stated above about your desire to study MPH and a little other reason to support your claim will be enough. And most importantly be confident with yourself.

Hello guys please i have something bothering me so I need your advices. I believe the U. S visa thread is a big family from which I can seek advice whenever I need it.
I started my application to the U.S hoping I'd get a scholarship or something. I've been working on it since last year but I've not gotten any. It's most possibly because my WAEC and high school transcript is too average.
I'm about to risk it and go to the U. S. My plans are one of these
1) Transfer to a community college after getting to the U. S
2) Get a scholarship for my 2nd year if possible but I wonder as i'll get through the first year as the tuition and board is $16k per year.
My Budget is about 2 million.
I don't want to have any regrets so I need your advice. Should I take the risk of traveling given the circumstances.
I don't even know if there's a community college that meets my budget. I searched and I saw some but I don't know if there are high hidden costs. I need advice from experts.
Wait fess, do you have a degree here in Nigeria and when did you finished high school?

I understand your point but 6 weeks course with your kids is screaming you are running away to the VO. This is what i can advise. Secure your own visa first, then you can apply for visiting for your kids after you must have gotten your visa.

Moreover, I don't know when your course is starting oo but i know visa appointment in Lagos has been fully book all the way till August and Abuja is quickly filling up as well.

Hello folks

Please I'd like to seek your opinion.
Got admission to last month and a tuition deposit of $500 is to be paid after 30 days of admission decision. Contemplating to pay or not as I just received I-20 last week.

Any advise?
Thinking $500 is too much to throw at something not yet guaranteed.
Chidinho10:
Some schools demand for enrollment deposits. It's normal for some programs. Speak with your admission officer for a waiver. Tell them about your financial constraints and how paying the fee will affect your traveling. If they agree, fine! If they don't, you'll have to pay it else they will terminate your admission.

That's how it works
Wait fess..... I believe the $500 is a token from your normal school fees and its just a guarantee on their side to reserve you a spot.

You can email the school and explain to them about how visa works and that you are not sure of the visa outcome yet, hence paying the fee will be a risk.

Ask if they have a refund policy in case you are not able to secure a visa, otherwise let them give you a waiver.
