Car TalkRe: Tokunbo Lexus Rx 300 Or Brand New Kia Rio 2014 by abatically(m): 7:27pm On Oct 18, 2014

Whether its a brand new kia picanto over a used BMW..

Nothing beats a BRAND NEW car..

Those that are have bought a brand new car will understand why I say so..

Check all the threads on car talk about car issues

Most of them were not bought brand new..

All cars are liabilities...
Once a car leaves the showroom, it depreciates in value.

Why would one consider a used car over a brand new one if he can afford one with four year warranty huh

Haba, make we no lie for here..

@ Op, go for the kia rio if you can afford it, and forget about car issues in the next 4 years or even more...
Guy u funny die o. It is true nothing beats a brand new car, but it also depends on the kind of car. The brand new Kia rio sold in Nigeria for 2 million has no airbags or other security features, and the build quality is laughable. I can't trust my family in that. U said it urself That once a car leaves the showroom it becomes a liability. In a year's time the brand new car rio will look older than a used 2003 Lexus rx300 plus u get to enjoy some level of luxury and reliability with the Lexus.

The Lexus has high ground clearance, far more reliable and presentable, more passenger and cargo space, off-road capability option and comes with all the security features. What can a brand new Kia rio offer u other than the fact that it is under warranty. So I guess I get to enjoy a very bland and rough ride just because of stewpid warranty. Nothing beats a brand new car, but not the case with a Kia rio. If it is hyundai sonata, kia sportage or even Kia optima then we would have a different case. Not a Kia rio.

Mancini dropped the likes of Adebayor, Bellamy, Petrov.

He dropped one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League for Joe Hart who was keeping at Birmingham.

If Mancini was the coach and he felt Uche and Martins were not the solution, he would have dropped him.

Remember, Mourinho dropped the best player for two seasons at Chelsea FC, Mata for a young Oscar.
Your head too correct. Some people just don't know Jack about football. Imagine someone was saying if ike uche played against sudan in the first leg that he would have scored. Now if ike uche played and emenike was benched and we lost, another group will say if emenike played we would have won. That is what a manager faces. I remember keshi benching emenike in the match against Congo, lots of fans were bashing him asking why he had to bench him, really keshi is being put under too many pressure.

It is very obvious lots of our players like omeruo, oboabona, Ambrose, echiejile, emenike and even onazi haven't been playing well, but let keshi drop any one of them and nigerian will scream. Let musa make one mistake nigerians will curse him and call him ab0ki. But when emenike, onazi, Ambrose, omeruo, etc make mistakes they won't see it, now who is sentimental, keshi or the fans?

A good coach needs to build his team with players he feels will play the way he wants. If keshi feels uche will not do well for his team then Let him be, he is the boss. Mourinho dropped and later sold mata who was their best player for 2 seasons. Mancini dropped shay given (one of the best shot stoppers in England) for a young joe Hart. Even Mourinho has dropped Peter cech for coutouis. Ferguson dropped Rooney in the champions league match against real Madrid. The same Ferguson let tevez go because of barbatov... That is what boses do, they bring their own policies and select the players they feel will play their way.

So what, keshi invited a player from China and everyone was like he lost his mind. I was wondering if China was from the planet mars, or didn't drogba play in China? Anyway the lad from China vindicated himself scoring a crucial goal while fans favorite emenike was being the BRAINLESS BULL that he is and selfish too.

That is true. The ignition coils for a range rover is not the same price with a Rav 4. But the coils in a Range Rover can last up to 70000 miles while a Rav 4 coil must have been changed more than 5 times before it gets to 70000 miles. Based on this comparison, are the coils not the same price?
That is not true bro. As a matter of fact the parts of luxury cars tend to fail when unexpected, and fixing them costs a whole lot. And who told u the ignition coil of a rav 4 will not last 70,000 miles? This is why people only enjoy them when bought brand new and covered by warranty. But as soon as the warranty expires they sell them off. Buying a luxury car is one thing, maintaining it is another.

If I earn 150,000 naira monthly, I'd rather buy a brand new hyundai santa fe than a used bmw x6. I'm not comparing both cars, we all know the bmw is the far better car. But for the following reasons

1. Brand new car, under warranty which means for the next 2 years I don't have to visit the garage.

2. A powerful 290HP v6 , AWD, reverse camera, 3rd row seat , Bluetooth, usb/iPod integration, xenon headlights, etc. I know the bmw has more options but the santa fe is not a slouch either and its enough for a medium income earner.

I know maintenance is the key, but u can't take the bmw x6 to a local mechanic, they will mess with it. Take it to a reputable garage and they will cut ur neck. I know a lot of friends that have abandoned their range rover sports because of high maintenance and cost of parts.

My point is, unless I am well loaded, I see no reason buying a used luxury car when there are otber capable options that will be pocket friendly.

Why sack keshi and employ amodu? It's still back to square one as people will start screaming amodu must go very very soon. Keshi should have been left to finish the job if they know they dont have a world class coach to appoint. Moreover keshi should have been sacked earlier if they wanted to sack him. Why wait until he won his first qualifier and it looked like the team is on the right track to qualify.

PULL OVER

Mr. UK, sorry, akinladejo, please answer the following questions:
*Are the streets of Lagos well laid out as that of London?
*Do we have hawkers competing with vehicles on London road?
*Can you compare the road worthiness of Lagos vehicles with those in London?
*Can you compare the educational status of London drivers with those in Nigeria?
*Can you compare the traffic lighting system in London with those in Nigeria?
Ayatullah:
*Are the streets of Lagos well laid out as that of London?
Don't be surprised that lots of streets in the UK are actually narrower than many streets in Lagos, yet people drive with high level of sanity.

Ayatullah:
*Do we have hawkers competing with vehicles on London road?
This is a lame excuse. It is not on every roads in Lagos we have hawkers, but still drivers see their horns as a toy and honk it unnecessarily. Some even honk their horn to rhyme with the music they are listening to in their car stereo.

Ayatullah:
*Can you compare the road worthiness of Lagos vehicles with those in London?
Road worthiness of vehicles have nothing to do with unnecessary use of horns. How do u explain being in a slow moving traffic and the car behind u is honking aggressively at u when he knows u have no where to go to, maybe he expects u to jump over the traffic or disappear from the road so he can go through. Let's say u manage to get out of his way, what about the car in front of u and the car in front of the car in front of u? Does that have anything to do with car's road worthiness or just share stupidity.

Ayatullah:
*Can you compare the educational status of London drivers with those in Nigeria?
Isn't this the reason for the HORN FREE DAY? To create awareness for road users on the proper way to use their horns. Or do u expect the Government to send every driver to school to learn driving ethics? We start from somewhere and when people like u cannot adhere to a simple thing as horn free day, then how can u learn other driving ethics? Later u will say Nigeria is bad. And in case u don't know, there are lots of educated and intelligent drivers in Nigeria.

Ayatullah:
*Can you compare the traffic lighting system in London with those in Nigeria?
Another lame excuse. Did London become the county it is overnight? It took years of hardwork not just from the Government but also from the citizens. Traffic lighting system has little to do with the rate we use horns in Nigeria. Does using horns in a slow moving traffic have anything to do with traffic light? And how does playing tune with horn have anything to do with traffic light? Its high time we citizens do the right thing, little by little we will get there. We can't just fold our hands and say 'CAN U COMPARE NIGERIA TO UK? ,

Left for me I would suggest government set out one day every month or every 2 months as horn free day just like sanitation day.

Last bullet: Mikel obi, though very slow bit he is the most quality player we have in our midfield. He is more composed and intelligent than any of our midfielder, he just needs to hustle up a bit more. The rest are just kick and follow footballers focusing more on brutality and strength and less on intelligence.

The Santa fe is higher than cr-v, ix35 and rav 4. It can be compared with the highlander or pilot, but not a match for the bmw x6. But for someone that has a big family or carries a lot of luggage, the hyundai has the upper hand , or he should just get the bmw x5 as they are both bigger than the x6 which is a crossover coupe.

Drove from ifako ijaye through ogba to alausa then back to ogba and I can say I am quite impressed by what I saw. Driving has never been less stressful. There are still some mad men honking their horn (maybe due to reflex action or just stupidity), but it was drastically minimal compared to every other day. I didn't hear a single horn from ogba to alausa and back, except a mad man trying to prevent me from changing lanes when the car in front of me got broken. He honked his horn very aggressively but still don't stop me from switching lanes. That is the kind of people the government is trying to enlighten . if we are all patient, we can no I miss the unnecessary use of horns just like it is done in advanced countries.

The problem we have in this country is the fear of trying new things in every aspect. A lot of people have been screaming it is not possible to have a horn free day even when they haven't tried it out yet. I challenge anyone to go out, try it and see if it is not possible. Yes I mighpollutiousing it but with time u will definitely get used to not using ur horns unnecessarily. Rome was not built in a day, it didn't take eternity either.

I even asked a few people, even some sharp drivers are complying. One bus driver told me he though it was impossible this morning but by afternoon he was already enjoying the horn free day and that driving has been easier compared to before. I think government should make this once every month, and very soon other states will join. Lets join hands and make this country a great nation.

Last bullet: Horn free day doesn't mean horns should Not be used at all, it is only an awareness to reduce the use of horns and noise pollution. When necessary we have to make use of our horn. It is just like someone fasting, if he falls sick he has to eat something to stay healthy regardless of the fast.

Im not talking about using it indiscriminately but when necessary, they are a lot of mad people on the road you know.

As you are driving 2day Sir, when a situation that needs you to make use your horn comes up, don't use.

Even in some people deserted villages, u will have to blow your horn for chickens and goats, talkless of a city.

I still stand on my words
It is impossible for the whole population not to blare their horns.
U still don't get it. The campaign is to reduce the rate we use horns unnecessarily, not to totally erradicate the use of horns. Horns are installed in cars for a reason. Today is horn free day, I am not using my horns. But if a car in front of me is reversing and I notice he is about to hit me, I will use my horn to caution him. That doesn't mean I am breaking the rules.

Very true. I remembered when Lagos state made the law that people should not throw waste out of their cars. A lot of people laughed at it and said it is not possible. Has it been totally eradicated? NO, but it has been effective. Today people still throw rubbish out of their cars but it has been drastically reduced. Today people watch to see if there are law enforcement agents before doing it. So that means it is working. U can't even try it in some parts of Lagos. I still remember when we throw wastes in pits, but today with the introduction of lawma and waste bills, that has become a thing of the past. Gradually we will get there. Eko o no baje

You can't even move from egbeda to ikeja without using ur horn even though on a normal day it's not meant to take you up to 20mins.
First of all, the traffic in NYC is more alarming than in Lagos. Even Los Angeles, Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and gouzhou China has worse traffics and yet people abide by the rules. Zhengzhou city has over 220 million registered cars. I have driven in Lagos for weeks without using my horn, so YES it is very very possible.

The thing is people use their horns for no reason. Let me ask u, what do u gain from honking ur horn at the person in front of u in a slow moving traffic when it is obvious that person has no where to go to. Do u expect him to jump or disappear from the road so u can pass. Even if he manages to 'disappear', the person in front of him and the person in front of the person in front of him Will not.

My guy it is very safe. They are not trying to say the horn should not be used at all, but it should only be used when absolutely necessary, that is the moral. People in Nigeria use their horns as if it is a toy, unnecessarily. The world would be a better place when people start driving with their mind open and not by honking their horns every second. U hear people blazing horns in traffic, at hospitals, in schools and estates. This is an enlightenment to let people know it is possible to drive without the horn, I do it several times.

We keep saying Nigeria is bad, yet when we go to other countries we abide by their rules. I have driven for 3 months outside Nigeria without using my horn and I can tell u it was so peaceful . So why can't we do the same thing in our own country.

Yes it is possible. Actually the moral is not to stop people from using their horns completely...
