Flash d ROM, magisk if u want to root
Boot to system
Boooommmmmm.

This contact saving issue...

I save contacts to my second SIM only but sometimes the contacts save on sim 1 and sometimes they don't save at all, I'll go back to resave them to sim 2 and same thing will still happen again. It's not as if my sim 2 is full sef, I have only 140 contacts on it.
What i don't understand is why anyone is bothering with saving on a sim card. Save your contacts to your Google or mi account; headache averted

And... I'm back so soon.

So i have the eu rom for mi 9 which i got from sourceforge.

I've seen a couple of tutorials about how to flash it but I'm hoping to learn from the dozens of personal experiences here so i don't walk into a pit.

Is it as simple as charging the device to 80%, booting to recovery, wiping the device, flashing the rom plus cahe wiping and sipping a cup of tea.

Will the zip file not already be removed when i wipe the device before flashing?

If you installed the magisk zip, you don't need flash anything else. You have root. And the second question, there's no problem at all.
Okay. Thanks.

I'll be back for more tips when I inevitably wander into custom rom land

Recovery partition it is.
The recovery thing didn't work so i installed magisk and orangefox has stuck.

More questions:

Is the phone now rooted with magisk installed or do i need to flash the magisk zip to root it, like i read somewhere?

Hope there's no problem updating the magisk? I ask cos i also saw somewhere that xiaomi devices work on some versions and not on others.

Thanks for all the help smiley

Choosing a Custom recovery over stock/inbuilt recovery, bye bye to MIUI OTA updates. Bootloop (soft brickland cheesy) with or without loss of data may happen.
Na to download full Miui Rom whenever there's OTA update and flash with the custom recovery

I'm just inching my way forward through this whole modding swamp.

Maybe I'll check out another rom sef and leave ota for now. We'll see

Apparently, you'll need to flash magisk the first time you boot to orangefox. That way, the custom recovery won't leave.

You can also follow mathefaro's suggestions, works too.

For the persist.img, just open your fastboot rom, navigate to images and copy persist.img from the images folder to your SD card.

Boot to custom recovery, navigate to where you saved the persist.img, select it and select the persist partition and swipe to flash.

This will solve all issues with sensors, camera and any other issues.
I already flashed the persist.img. Thanks. Sensors are working now. I hope the intermittent freezing and rebooting also stops

For the magisk method, i hope there's nothing complicated there.

After flashing the recovery from your PC, boot immediately into the recovery and flash the recovery from your phone as well.
Thanks. So i tried to use this method and i got up to the point where i selected the recovery.img file but before swiping i needed to select a partition. I thought the recovery partition was the right option but i didn't want to guess into brickland so i decided to ask

You won't suffer any data loss.

Just use this command:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and press enter.

Once done successfully, remove the phone and hold down your power button and volume up button same time. Once the phone goes off and on, release the power button while holding the volume up button.

If it boots to custom recovery, release the volume button. That's how. Meanwhile, be sure you are flashing the main custom recovery for your device.
I was about to celebrate about how I just installed orangefox and i needed to know how to install the persist.img file.

I just tried to boot into recovery again and it's back to stock recovery. It worked a few moments, dunno what happened

You'll have to flash persist.img via custom recovery then.
Thanks for your help so far.

Am i on the right path to installing the custom recovery with these instructions?

For the part where it says to go into recovery mode, i presume that means I enter the "fastboot Reboot" line, press enter, then go to recovery. Is this correct?

Finally, will i likely suffer data loss during the process?

Only solution, flash persist.img.

Persist.img can be located in your fastboot ROM. Extract it and flash.

It can be flashed in two ways (do step 2 first):

1. Via custom recovery (I know you don't have it anymore since you already flashed a fastboot ROM).

2. Copy the persist.img to your adb folder. Open adb fastboot and type these commands>

fastboot devices (press enter)

fastboot flash persist persist.img (press enter)

If it flashes successfully, you issue will be solved. If it doesn't, you'll have to first flash a custom recovery and then boot to it to flash the persist.img
At the end of this, I would have become a super hacker person.
Thanks.

BTW, the flashing of the custom rom ended with an error message. The third one in the image. I wonder why that happened and if it is related

From one problem to another.
Now most of the sensors are not working; light, accelerometer, gyroscope.
Someone said something about flashing a persist.img file but i don't know what that is and I don't want to accidentally kill my phone because of sensors.
Any help?

New question: is there a way i can check which lte band my sim is currently using.
The reason i ask is that glo seems to be performing poorly on mi 9 compared to what it was like on the p30.
It's significant enough that i can't listen to an online radio while driving without constant buffering whereas the p30 performed smoothly on the same sim.

So I'm wondering if the mi 9 is preferentially using band 3 (which i would expect this kind of poor quality from), despite supporting both band 3 and 28.

Yes, I've verified that the phone is indeed global version, via the official xiaomi page

Which phone?
Mi account removed by d previous owner?
A fastboot Rom will do but don't re lock d bootloader while flashing it

Check page 201 to see how to flash a fastboot ROM
It's a mi 9 and I've signed in with my own mi account.
Do I need to remove that before attempting to flash the rom?

Okay, heading to page 201 now smiley

Hello all.
Pls i need to remove custom rom from a MI device.

I didn't install it myself and i don't want to break the thing.

I just want to go back to the official rom and undo any magisk magic that they've put on the device

Is it hypocrisy if you say you're the president of law and order but you've broken more laws as a president than most citizens? Shall I go on?

How about deception?
Do i really need to bring out a calculator to add up all the times orangeman has deceived people. But maybe you should inject bleach to treat covid19 since he obviously got that one right.
