Analysiscorner: NewsSaturday FeaturesHorror: The case was initially reported at the F Division of the Kwara State Police Command, which is located few metres away from where Oluwatosin lived.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed that the police are on the trail of the suspect.
Investigators have visited a private university where Ogundele is said to work, but his colleagues said they had not seen nor heard from him since the day before the incident.
The police have called for any information that may help to track down the suspect as he continues to stay in hiding. Obviously, the murderer works with Landmark University, the only private university in Omu Aran. Politics › Al Turki's Phone Theft Is A Lie - Sheikh Yakubu Musa Katsina by abdussalam(op): 10:02pm On Mar 20, 2016 |
The alleged theft of a phone belonging to a famous shaikh has been refuted. cc: lalasticlala The alleged theft of a phone belonging to a famous shaikh has been refuted.
Sheikh Yakubu Musa Katsina, the Chairman of the conference organising committee and among the notable leaders of the Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'a Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), and also one of the closest people to the Executive Secretary of The Muslim World League, Sheikh, Dr. Abdallah Abdulmuhsin al-Turki, has refuted the alleged theft.
Sheikh Yakubu, while speaking to Enews described the story as unfounded and unfair, and further noted that as the chairman of the conference, he was in the best position to know if such a thing occures.
The Sheikh's phone was alledged to have been stolen while he was in the National Mosque for Friday Prayer.
Also, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, the National Chairman of JIBWIS, while refuting the story, noted that it was a lie and the Sheikh didn't notify him of that development in his capacity as the National Chairman of JIBWIS. He said, up to this moment the Executive Secretary is fine and his phone is intact.
Also, in another development, one of the visible conference organisers in person of Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Rijiyar Lemo, refuted the story. He noted that it was a member of al-Turki's entourage by the name Sheikh Shakir that misplaced his phone, and not Dr. al-Turki, as reported. He further noted that the phone was misplaced, not stolen as the person couldn't remember where he kept it.
Dr. Muhsin al-Turki visited Nigeria for the World Islamic Conference which kicked off in Abuja, Nigeria's capital. The event was declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dr. Ibrahim further expressed his dismay and disappointment on how reputable media outlets could carry such a news without seeking clarification from officials of the conference. http://enews.ng/pages/view/newspage/0/170 |
Science/Technology › How To Save Time Spent On The Social Media by abdussalam(op): 5:26pm On Mar 19, 2016 |
The social media can be time consuming just like any other activity on the internet. If care is not taken, one may spend more than half of each day posting, replying, chatting and sharing content without getting any portion of productivity from it. Staying productive on the social media is of essence for every youth.
A 2015 report on Social Media Addiction estimates that users aged between 15 and 19 spend at least 3 hours per day on average on social media platforms majorly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It also states that those in the 20 to 29 age bracket spend about two hours on the social media. Their usage of it varies.
TIME WASTED BY PEOPLE ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA
According to Go-Globe, with the way people are addicted to the social media today, we collectively spend 39,757 years of our time on Facebook alone in a day. Their infographics show the following eye opening statistics on how much time is wasted on the social media.
Earlier people use newspaper for their morning news but now 16 percent users rely on Facebook or Twitter for their morning news. 4 is the average number of social/communication apps that smartphone users have on their phone. Uploading images on Social media networking sites have become the trend nowadays; 5 million images are uploaded daily on Instagram. More than 500 million tweets are sent out per day by users. People prefer watching videos on YouTube i.e. the average visitor spends 15 minutes a day on YouTube. Of iPhone users, 28 percent check their Twitter feed before getting up in the morning. It is estimated that the average person spends nearly one-quarter of their work day browsing social media for non-work related activities. People are wasting their precious time on social media networking sites. Between 60 percent and 80 percent of people time on the internet of work has nothing to do with work.
HELP YOURSELF MANAGE YOUR TIME ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA Answering these three questions could help shaping how you manage your time on the social media.
How much time do you spend on the social media? How frequently do you visit your social media account? What do you usually do on the social media? As a youth, it is imperative that you utilize your time on Facebook, twitter and other social media platforms to productive ends. Make every moment on the social media productive. Make every moment count.
HOW TO SAVE TIME SPENT ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA DEDICATE PARTICULAR TIME TO THE SOCIAL MEDIA
It is expected of you that by now, you should have a personal timetable. Dedicate a particular period of the day or week for social media usage. Visiting the social media shouldn’t even be of top priority in your to-do list except if your activities there are toward productive ends. Make sure you are not being unjust to yourself by spending the whole day on any social media platform.
USE MULTI-LEVEL SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS There are some tools that could help you save time spent on the social media by affording you the benefit of posting on multiple platforms at a time. Such tools include; tweetdeck, hootsuite and uber social make you connect and post on as many social media account and platforms as possible. Some social media networks are also ‘inter-connectable’. You can connect your twitter account with Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin so that when you post on one, it would appear on the others too almost immediately. The tools save you not only time but stress of duplicating efforts. Try them out!
Turn off Social Media Notification
That beep that distracts you from being stable with your schedule is better turned off than on.
UNINSTALL SOCIAL MEDIA APPS
If you simply can’t resist the urge to use the social media especially on your phone, it’s time you uninstall those distractive apps. Don’t let those weapons of mass destruction fashioned against you prosper.
KEEP AWAY YOUR PHONE WHILE STUDYING/WORKING
To keep up with getting things done, keep away your phone while studying or working. As much as you may want to multitask, focus on one thing at a time. It helps a lot.

Career › 7 Tips To Make You Stay Productive Each Day by abdussalam(op): 9:21am On Dec 26, 2015 |
“Seize the day” isn’t just an advice to be wished away. It is a creed to be held. Every person should forge out efforts towards maximizing every second of each day.
You surely wish that you had more than the 24 hours in day to help to achieve that aspiration of yours. Each day is a opportunity to stand out. No slacking. Dedicating your time productively is necessary. How do you help yourself to be productive? Here are some tips to help you stay productive every day.
WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Write those things you want to achieve today, next five years or longer. They may be small, minor, big or major. They all matter. The You of tomorrow should be proud of the You of today. Each day you look into your ‘goal jotter’, you invigorate the desire to progress. An unwritten goal remains wishful thinking. It can’t easily be tracked. You may forget some part. That may lose you a sense of direction. Remember that you grow with your goals. So, be sure to review, revise and adjust them as often as necessary.
UTILIZE MODERN TECHNOLOGY
There are loads of technological tools today that boost can boost your productivity. Technology simplifies your life. Various apps are there on PC and mobile devices to jot your plans and design your schedules. With Skype, you can cut limits to travelling for the purpose of physical contact. With Trello, you can complete multiple tasks simultaneously. With Google Drive and Drop Box, you don’t have to carry external drives around as your files would be stored virtually and can be easily shared among team members. Acclimatize yourself with these and other technological tools for productivity.
DELEGATE TASKS
You can’t do everything even if you see the need to. Assign duties to subordinates and peers. You may monitor their progress in action. You’ve worked on building a formidable team. Members of your team should be efficient to stand in for you. Trust them and you’ll achieve more than you could have imagined.
BE GRATEFUL
Gratitude is cool. Be grateful to God. Be grateful to your associates. Be grateful to everyone. It doesn’t matter how awful things look. Gratitude brings about better things. From the scriptures, we learn that the grateful one earns increment in sustenance. Gratitude earns individuals compassion from others too. Saying ‘Thank You!’ to others wouldn’t take anything from you. It would produce commitment to success. Be grateful and stay productive!
PRAY
Prayer combined with dedication to productivity is equally nice. Pray to God to grant you the opportunity of experiencing the goodness of each day as you wake. He listens to the faithful caller when they call on Him. He accepts their request and blesses their efforts thereafter. Prayer boosts productivity.
PLAN EACH DAY AN EVENING AHEAD
It may be too late planning a day after it had started. Planning ahead is a wonderful idea. The evening gives you the avenue to evaluate today and plan for the following day. Unaccomplished tasked can be readily transferred to the day after. Write out your schedule. Allot time to each task by hour or minutes as you may wish. Monitor your progress. Stay productive all day.

Similarly, the motto of the Order of the Garter, the UK’s third most prestigious honor, is written in Old or Middle French, and it is Honi soit qui mal y pense, which translates in English as "shame on him who thinks evil of it." Although the motto is unrecognizable to most modern French speakers because the language has evolved tremendously since the motto was invented, it has remained unchanged.
Read fact number 1 to know why these French-language mottos emerged in England.
6. English did not originate in England; it originated in Germany from a people called Angles who were so called because they lived in a part of West German seaside that formed an angle. The inhabitants of this angular West German seaside decided to invade an island known as Britain where people spoke a cluster of languages called Gaelic or Celt. Other names by which the languages are known are Erse or Goidelic.
The West German invaders from the angular coastline who mixed with, and sometimes drove away, the autochthonous Celts decided to call their language “Aenglisch” and to rename the island of Britain “Aengland” (later England) in honor of “Angles,” their place of origin in West Germany. Although some words in the original Celtic languages made their way to “Aenglisch,” which later became “English,” their influence has been marginal at best. That is why Scottish, Welsh, and other Celtic languages in the UK are not intelligible to English speakers.
7. With approximately 1,025,109.8 distinct words—and growing more rapidly than anyone can capture— English has the most vocabulary of any language in the recorded history of humankind. This claim has been dismissed as nonsensical by some linguists because of the difficulty, some say impossibility, of comparing the vocabularies of different languages. Do suffixes and prefixes count as words, for instance? What about inflections of words for tense and number? Do the inflections count as distinct words? Dialects? Which dialects are privileged? Only standard ones? All? Do loanwords count? Or should the counting be limited to basic, native vocabulary?
As you can see, it’s a really messy claim to say English has the most vocabulary of any language in the world, but people who make this claim often rely on the fact that English has several layers of vocabularies.
First, as a Germanic language, it has several vocabularies in common with German and Dutch. Then it has a few from Celtic languages. After the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of French words entered the English language. A few years later, Latin became the language of scholarship in Europe, and contributed even more words to the English language. Greek and Arabic contributed still more words in science, medicine, astronomy, and even everyday speech. With the founding of the United States of America and large-scale British colonization across the world, thousands more words made their way to the language. With this astonishing medley of lexical influences, it is hard not to have a large pool of words.
8. I got this from a website called Quora, an online discussion community. It says “STARTLING” “is the only 9-letter word in the English language where you can remove one letter at a time and still create a word.
Startling: Very surprising Starting: Beginning Staring: to look fixedly String: material consisting of threads of cotton, or other material twisted to form a thin length. Sting: a small sharp-pointed organ at the end of the abdomen of bees, wasps, ants, and scorpions Sing: make musical sound Sin: an immoral act In: Enclosed I: Singular pronoun”
9. English is the only language in the world that every international airline pilot must speak irrespective of their national and linguistic origins. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in 2008, made it compulsory for every pilot on an international flight to speak English. “This is because several aircraft can be on the same radio frequency and it is vital that pilots know what is going on around them,” according to the UK Telegraph of March 5, 2008. The ICAO also says pilots who are native English speakers should curb “the use of idioms, colloquialisms and other jargon” during communication so that non-native speakers can understand them without difficulty.
10. There are more English speakers in Nigeria than there are in the UK, the birthplace of the language. Source: http://www.farooqkperogi.com/2015/10/10-mind-blowing-facts-about-english.html?m=1Cc: Fulaman198, odumchi, bigfrancis21, lalasticlala |
Culture › 10 Mind-blowing Facts About English That May Shock You by abdussalam(op): 10:18am On Oct 12, 2015 |
Everyone knows English is an eccentric language with unpredictable rules and curious, illogical exceptions to its rules. But below are 10 trivial facts about the language you probably didn’t know before.
1. Although “English” is derived from “England” and is, in fact, the demonym for someone from England, it is not the official language of England or of the UK. There are at least three reasons why English isn’t England’s official language.
One, historically, that is, since about 1066, the English monarchy didn’t speak English; they spoke French, specifically Norman French, that is, a dialect of French spoken by the people of Normandy in northwestern France who conquered England in the 11th century. After the conquest, the conquerors made their language the language of the courts, of government, and of social mobility.
So for several years, the social and cultural elite in England spoke French. Only the uneducated and underprivileged spoke English. English was called the “vernacular” or the “vulgar tongue.” It was the language of the unwashed masses, and was thought to be unfit for literary and other high-minded expressions. That was why the first English translation of the Bible was called “the Vulgate.” Vulgate is derived from “vulgar,” which is Latin for “the common people,” and is now commonly used as an adjectival synonym for coarse, uncouth, crude, unwashed, etc.
The second reason English isn’t England’s official language is that English is spoken as a first language by more than 95 percent of the population, which makes its officialization superfluous. Third, England has no autonomous government; it is a division of the United Kingdom. Although it has traditionally ruled over other divisions of the Union such as Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, it would be counter-productive if England insists that other non-English divisions of the Union adopt English as their official language, especially in light of the resurgence of Welsh, Scottish, and Irish linguistic nationalisms in the past few decades.
2. Although the United States of America is home to the world’s largest population of native English speakers (up to two-thirds of the world’s native English speakers live in the US), English isn’t an official language of the country.
That doesn’t mean, of course, that there have been no attempts in the past to codify English as the official language; it’s just that several advocates have argued that imposing English as the official language will violate the First Amendment of the American constitution, which states, among other things, that government cannot make any law that will hinder the expression of any citizen’s freedom of speech.
But the most important reason why English isn’t America’s official language is that, like in the UK, it is pointless since almost everyone speaks the language. Plus, it is the passport to upward social mobility and integration in the society, so you ignore it at your own risk.
It’s important to note that even though English isn’t America’s official language at the national level, at least 29 of the country’s 50 states have declared it as their official language.
3. Other native-English-speaking countries where English isn’t an official language are Australia and New Zealand.
4. The only countries in which English is an official language are the countries that were once colonized by Britain. Although Rwanda and Eritrea weren’t colonized by Britain, they have also adopted English as an official language. If you add these two countries to the list of former British colonies, including Nigeria, that have adopted English as an official language, you will have 56 countries in which English is an official language.
5. The motto of the English and British royalty isn’t written in English. It’s written in French, and it’s "Dieu et mon Droit," which means "God and my Right." It’s credited with being the origin of the divine right of kings.

Ever since the announcement of Abba Kyari as the new Chief of Staff to the President was made, we've seen some folks of the google age confusing him with other personalities with similar name. Some bloggers aren't helping matters either. They're the main propagators of the confusion. In case you don't know, there are three different people answering that name in the public space in Nigeria. It's not unusual that such occur especially in Northern Nigeria. I know three different people by the name Yusuf Ali for example. You'll recall the mistaken identity situation that heralded the announcement of the manifest of the ill-fated Dana Air crash in 2012. People had already started paying condolence visits to the residence of the Yusuf, an Ilorin-Born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). We also have a Yusuf Ali as an Editor with The Nation Newspaper. Neither of them was on the flight. It's definitely another Yusuf Ali. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Kyari's identity is getting people confused. The Three Abba Kyaris One is a retired Brigadier in the Nigerian Military Two is a top ranking serving officer of the Nigerian Police Force in Lagos Three is a seasoned administrator with over 30years experience in the private sector. Their Profiles Brigadier Abba Kyari Abba Kyari (born 1938) is a retired Nigerian Army Brigadier who served as Governor of the now defunct North-Central State, Nigeria after it was formed from the Northern Region during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon.
Abba Kyari was born in 1938. He attended Borno Middle School and Barewa College, Zaria. In 1959 he enlisted in the Nigerian Army as an Officer Cadet. He attended the 12th Regular Officers’ Training School, Teshia, Ghana (March 1959 - September 1959) and then the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, England (October 1959 - March 1960). He held various appointments in the army, including Platoon Commander and then Transport Offices in the 1 Brigade Transport Company, Second-in-Command and then Commander in the Nigerian Army Artillery, commander of 1 Brigade, Kaduna and Commanding Officer 5th Battalion, Nigerian Army, Kano.
During the outbreak of violence against the Igbo people in Northern and Central Nigeria in 1966, Abba Kyari assisted Igbo soldiers in escaping from Kaduna, including Major Samuel Ogbemudia, who later was appointed Governor of Mid-West State in September 1967 following the state's liberation from secessionist Biafran forces. General Yakubu Gowon appointed Colonel Kyari Governor of North-Central State in July 1967. As governor, he commissioned a master plan for the Kaduna metropolis, but in practice the plan was not followed by his successors. He was not tolerant of the free press. For example, in April 1975 he strongly attacked the New Nigerian for publishing a picture of officers attending a conference that mainly showed junior officers. Towards the end of Gowon's administration, Kyari was a cautious advocate of return to civilian rule.
Kyari led the Northern delegates to the 1994 National Constitutional Conference, and was appointed Chairman of the National Defence Committee of the conference. After retiring, he was appointed to the board of directors of First Bank of Nigeria, Standard Alliance Insurance and Merchant Bank of Commerce. He became Chairman of Gamah Flour Mills and of Alif Engineering and Construction.

Business › 11 Money Saving Tips You Wished You Knew by abdussalam(op): 3:53pm On Aug 25, 2015 |
I have met people who had spent their money before they got it. They always have a lot to spend on that at the end of the day, they end up borrowing money from others before they earn it. Have you ever considered the art of money saving? As a budding productive youth, you need to cultivate the habit of saving for the raining day. Here are some effective ways to save money.
MAKE MORE MONEY
This is very essential if what you earn is not sufficient to cater for your needs. Do yourself some favour by seeking alternative means of generating income. It could mean taking out time from your busy schedule to do some ‘petty things’ that you can ordinarily do and get paid for that. Some people are well skilled in areas other than the one they choose as their profession. What’s your own? Is it baking, home teaching, programming, writing or event management? Take up some other enterprise to make more money and save more!
DON’T SPEND ON ALL YOU NEED
Human needs are insatiable. There is no need wanting to meet all your needs since you can’t possibly achieve that. Have a list of what you need and prioritise on what is essential. If you can’t afford some products, look out for alternatives – that’s if you really need them. One essential way to get money saved is to establish a saving discipline such that you ‘save’ an amount equal to whatever is spent on nonsensical indulgences. Another is to keep a ‘thirty day list’ which ensures you delay spending on those things you think you need. Wait till thirty days after to consider whether those things are really needed before spending on them.
HAVE A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT
With a plan of what you want to do, you’ll have a guide on what to do. A budget takes into account what you want to spend on as well as what you earn. It would guide you to spend if adhered to. You know your income and can decipher when not to exceed your spending limits. Basically have a list when going on shopping and stick strictly to it. Don’t allow much flexibility on your budget in order not to affect your chances of saving.
GIVE UP EXPENSIVE HABITS
Some people spend money to impress others and be seen as well off. If you are one of such, it would be difficult to save. You know that you ordinarily can’t afford those jewellery, clothing or food. Don’t you? That is why you are still finding it difficult to have something to keep. Give up on spending beyond what your pocket can carry and you’ll find that money staying in your pocket instead of burning up and floating away.
GIVE OUT OF THE LITTLE
You might be wondering how giving out of your money makes you save them. I can assure you that giving out to charity is in some way an investment. By so doing, you’re adding value to other people’s lives. In some other way, God would open doors of opportunities for you elsewhere. Parsimony is not what made the rich men rich but their commitment to help others. Give out alms and you’ll be good for it!
TRAVEL LESS
Travelling can be fun but can also be expensive. It wouldn’t be a bad idea you travel only when necessary. Apart from money, time is also gone. The time spent travelling could affect your money making prospects. Cut the cost of frequent travelling to meet friends and families by using alternative mediums such mobile phones, courier services or internet chats to reach out to them. Reducing leisure travelling to once in year too wouldn’t be bad an idea.
HAVE SHORT TERM SAVING GOALS
Look at your earnings and consider setting a goal for yourself to save a proportion of that daily, weekly or monthly. If your goal is to save N2000 weekly, you could possibly achieve saving a lot on a long run rather than when you set a saving goal of N350,000 annually. People save more successfully when they keep the short-term goal in sight.
RENT OUT UNUSED ASSETS
Do you have some appliance there that is not in use? Consider renting it out to those who need it and get some money for that asset you’ve got. Rental service is a money making/saving venture if done rightly.
REPAIR RATHER THAN DESTROY
When some appliance get damaged, it is cheaper to repair than destroy them. Make the wise decision of meeting an honest and moderate technician to handle such service for you. When it becomes obvious that such appliance is non-repairable, buying another durable one wouldn’t be a bad idea.
INVEST IN VENTURES
It is not just about keeping money in your safe or bank account that makes you a wise safer. Think about ventures that you can invest in and make profit from. This could mean buying shares, joining mutual benefits corporations or opening a store with money from your savings. At the end, you and other business partners share the profit or loss accrued. Get things in place to make sure you’re investing in lawful ventures. Be wise to invest!
LOOK FOR A CHEAPER PLACE TO LIVE
The standards of living in various parts of the country vary. It would be better to move to areas where the standard of living is cheaper and affordable. In any need for you to see sights in high brow neighbourhoods, you could do so once in a while. Take a serious look about moving to a less expensive area – if you can find work there, then a move can definitely put you in better financial shape.
FINALLY…
Money is not everything. Yet, some would beg to disagree. You don’t have to make money from every venture you engage in. If your impact is felt, money would surely come. It could be with your knowledge or skill you use to provide charitable service to humanity that would lead to you being spotted and rewarded by who knows. Add value unto others. It saves you a lot of money!

Jobs/Vacancies › Why The Purported Nigeria Police E-recruitment Website May Be Fake by abdussalam(op): 1:00pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
Earlier today, a friend sent me a web address purportedly meant for the Nigeria Police Force Recruitment. I wasn't surprised to see that. Afterall, since the announcement of possible recruitment of tens of thousands of citizens into the police force was made on Wednesday, some fraudulent Nigerians had flooded the streets of Lagos with job adverts about that asking people to call certain numbers. Lagosians would understand what I mean here better.
Let's focus now on the main issue here, the 'recruitment website'. The official website of the Nigerian Police Force is https://www.npf.gov.ng/ while the one being circulated is www.nigeriapolice.org/recruitment/
The creator of that facade did a 'good' assignment of linking back to the official website of the police force. That may convince some people to think they are genuine. Don't be deceived! There has been no official advert beyond the news report that followed President Buhari's meeting with officials of the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission.
All government-run/owned websites I know of have the .gov.ng appendage but not that purported 'recruitment website'. You may run a Google search on the said website and find it top of your search results. That doesn't give credibility to it. I ran a domain check on the two sites to lend credence to this position of mine on whois.net. The is no data about nigeriapolice.org but there is on npf.gov.ng.
Another redflag is that there's no list of positions nor job description on the said page. I'd previously assisted some colleagues through their Nigerian military registration online and could remember seeing respective positions and job descriptions there. That's not the same in this instance.
Whenever the Nigeria Police Force decides to recruit officers and men into their workforce, they will advertise appropriately using their official website. Fraudsters are out there. Masu gudu su Gudu! Correct me if I'm wrong!
