Hi Senior parents in the house, My family and I are planning to land in Canada towards the end of May. I’m currently pregnant and will be 30 weeks pregnant by the time we land. Our plan is to land in Burnaby, BC given that my brother stays there and himself and his wife have offered to house us during our initial months especially given my current state. From my research, the Medical Service Plan (MSP) for BC doesn’t become active until you have spent 3 months in the province. The advice given by BC government is for newly-landed immigrants to register for private insurance that can cover them during the 3 month waiting period. However, private insurance doesn’t seem to cover childbirth. I will most likely go into labour before the lapse of the 3 months and because I’ve had a prior C-section, I am likely to have a C-section again. The out-of-pocket cost for C-section is around CAD12k which is a lot and unlikely to be refunded by the time my MSP becomes active. I’d appreciate any advice I can get from those who have had babies in their first few months of landing. What do you think is my best bet? 1 Like |

Antyxx: I was in your shoes. The RFV email expressly states that your passport should have a minimum validity of 6 months for you to submit it for PR visa and COPR. What I did was to renew and I paid through the nose for express and even traveled to Abuja. It took a total of 4 days and then I submitted both old and new passport (used a rubber band to join them). If you go through this thread, you’d see some people have dropped passport plugs that process within a day (Yola and places in the North). If you have fears that your renewal will take a while, just use the web form link in your RFV email to ask for a longer time to allow for passport renewal. |

tomfoolery: Congratulations bro! Next steps are for you to send your package to the VFS of your choice. The basic things to send in a single package are: * international passport (you, spouse & kids) * 2 copies of passport photo (one stamped with studio’s logo and signature and date at the back. You also need to write your full name and DOB on the stamped copy. The second copy should be left blank). These photos are to be in the dimensions specified in Appendix 1 on your RFV email * Completed height and eye colour chart (Appendix 2) * Printed copy of your RFV email * 1 CVAC form completed by the primary applicant. This is consent form for the VAC and you can just Google Canadian CVAC form and fill it as the primary applicant * If there’s been a change in your family composition, you may want to fill IMM008 as well You can send these to any VFS of your choice. If you choose Lagos, you can just walk in between 8am to 10am on any weekday and present the proof of biometrics if you did biometrics in Lagos. If you have a kid that didn’t do biometrics, you’d have to pay 9k plus for each child. It seems Lagos currently sends their stuff to Accra and it takes about 4 weeks at the moment. PS: For Lagos, make photocopies of all the docs in your package just in case. If you want to send your package to Kenya or the new Yaoundé (Cameroon) which have faster turnaround times, you’d have to pay for dispatch but you can send it through Lagos. You’ll pay N18k for each person included in your application. They charge dispatch per intl. passport not as a single package. The 18k is for Kenya, Cameroon’s dispatch fees may differ slightly. Turnaround time for Kenya is about two weeks while Cameroon has been responding within days to a week. These are the ones I enquired about. I’ll be going to Lagos VFS tomorrow to send my package. ABUTHAOBAN: Why not read that page 1 first and then if there are still questions you’re confused about, you can then ask specific questions. The whole process is lengthy for anyone to start typing here and it would take up space. If you don’t like reading, you can maybe start with YouTube videos from CanadaDream and similar channels. They have videos that talk about step by step process. 1 Like |

dipset01: They definitely don’t need the history since 2015. A 6 month statement is sufficient so you don’t overwhelm the evaluating officer. You can support it with an LOE if there are big inflows. |

dipset01: My bank reference letter (POF) was also from Stanbic Asset Mgt. I didn’t put statement with my own but it doesn’t hurt to include it. In my case, what I did was to include an LOE showing a table of sources of funds with supporting attachments. So my point is go ahead and use Stanbic AM but include an LOE stating that the financial institution doesn’t show average balance on their reference letter and so you’ve attached your statement of deposit as an addendum to aid the officer’s assessment. 2 Likes |

AmNuhRegular: Why naw? The same way I screenshot from NL, you can also read past posts and screenshot whatever you find relevant. It’s mostly things like how to call IRCC from Nigeria, how to check your VO through Singapore, what to include when sending your passport to Accra and such things. I’m not sure those screenshots would be useful to you. Everything you need is either already here on easily accessible through Google research. 2 Likes |

ohem: CRS score was 496 if I remember correctly. No special pathway; just the regular EE - FSWP. I maxed out my IELTS, maxed out experience points, got “two or more degrees” due to ACCA, included my husband’s ECA and IELTS and have brothers who are citizens. My IELTS score was 8.5 across LRW and then 7.5 in speaking. All the best in your journey; I pray they resume favourable draws soon. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

guyct: I had LRWS 8.5, 8.5, 8.5 and 7.5. My husband had LRWS of 8, 7.5, 7.5, and 8. We both used British Council portal (which you have access to after registration) to study. We had super busy jobs at the time (Big 4) so if I’m being honest, we didn’t study much but prioritized learning exam techniques. We both did ECA with WES. We have similar educational qualifications but with different bodies (ACCA vs. ICAN) so I had “2 or more degrees” while he had bachelor’s equivalent. 1 Like |

guyct: Use the CRS tool to simulate your scores, it will give you an idea of what you need to focus on. I don’t think the order in which you take IELTS and do WES matters much. Both you and your wife should register for IELTS and both do your WES. Your wife’s credentials will be rated as “2 or more degrees” and you’ll get the score for Masters. Aim for the highest possible scores on IELTS (check the CRS tool to see which scores give you the highest band). You have a chance in FSWP but you may want to read up on PNP or do French to boost your score. Yes, your BIL’s scores will count for you. Most of the answers you need are on Page 1 1 Like |

PPR finally came in today 🙏😅🥳 I don’t know how to behave. I ran downstairs to show my husband and we were jumping quietly together so as not to wake our toddler. Timeline below: IELTS exam: 20th August 2022 EE profile created: 12th September 2022 ITA received: 26th October 2022 Submission & AOR: 25th December 2022 Spouse’ BIL: 11th January 2023 Biometrics passed: 20th January 2023 Web form raised: 8th February 2023 Ready for visa email: 9th March 2023 No updates on the application tracker; eligibility and background check are still shown as “Not started” till now. Don’t be worried if you don’t get ghost updates or any similar clues we often track. By the way, my international passport will expire on 5th September this year. Should I submit it like that for COPR processing or try to renew first? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? I also would appreciate advice on what visa office to send our package to. Thank you to everyone who has helped and encouraged me in this journey. Some of you have made such helpful posts that I have screenshots on my japa folder. God bless you all @Bilingualism @Graciouswords @Debie with the many e’s @asetake ati beebe lo 30 Likes |

ednut1: Boss, some truly don’t know. I knew I had seen 8777 or something like that on Nairaland but didn’t put it to heart in the correct order. I was just targeting scoring as high as I could. The difference between me and this guy is that I then checked the calculator to confirm when my result was released instead of asking for something I could easily confirm from research. If he was bragging though, let it pass; it’s not easy 😅 2 Likes |

Acquiredollars: To enter the pool, no you don’t need SSCE at all. You’re not required to upload any documents at the point of entering the pool. However, you need your highest education qualification to do a WES evaluation. So even for this, SSCE is not required unless it happens to be your highest education level. If you have a B.Sc. degree or something higher, then you don’t need SSCE at all. Read page 1. 2 Likes |

kunleos: I’m in financial advisory and a chartered accountant (CA) but I think your issue stems from misinterpretation and misinformation. Please see below an excerpt from your NOC code: “Auditors require education, training and recognition as indicated for chartered professional accountants, chartered accountants (CPA, CA), chartered professional accountants, certified general accountants (CPA, CGA) or chartered professional accountants, certified management accountants (CPA, CMA) and…” Going by the above, you’re allowed to use the NOC code as an auditor and you definitely qualify to use it since again I’m assuming you’re a CA (ACCA or ICAN) if you’re in an audit firm. Please always read requirements yourself on this journey and listen less to hearsay. Many auditors have gone before you from Nigeria with no issues. |

The wait after submitting your PR application is not easy oo. Any time my personal email beeps, my heart goes “gbim gbim” only to see some marketing email from Konga or something. My mind keeps replaying my application details and I keep hoping I made no mistakes. It’s like I’ll temporarily delete Gmail from my phone so I only check it on PC. 2 Likes |

Jhigan: I don’t know anything about PNP so maybe others who went that route can help. But please give IELTS a try yourself so you boost her score. She’ll add you as “accompanying spouse” and you not having a degree or test of language will reduce her score. You self taught yourself IT so I believe you’re a driven person. Give IELTS your best ehn. |

Profgordons: This is really sound advice. I hope he sees it. I’d only add that they should pursue PR in hand first, do soft landing and then go to the UK to get that bridging experience. This is what my brother-in-law is currently doing. This man’s wife is even in a somewhat better position since she’s just starting her career and hasn’t specialized. My BIL was a specialist in Nigeria (pediatrics) but upon getting to the UK, his specialty is disregarded and he had to start over as a GP in the hospital’s pediatric department. 6 Likes |
