tomfoolery: Yes, I landed safely and I’m adjusting well. My husband got $2k from his bank (FCMB) through the PTA route. We supplemented this by buying CAD from the black market. My brother helped me with this one but I can ask him what the black market process is. We also still had quite a lot of NGN when we landed and will be looking to convert this soon. Have you tried PTA? 1 Like |

Acquiredollars: The hospital should write her a work reference stating her designation, role, how long she’s been working, number of hours, and compensation. They should clearly write there that her monthly salary has been remitted to her in cash for the duration of her employment. I think this is covered succinctly on Page 1. |

Mackie1: Ohh really. I think FCMB still has a $4k limit. It seems a number of banks are gradually reducing their limits though but CBN portal still allows you to input $4k. Thankfully, we have return tickets so fingers crossed that we get approved. You should definitely take advantage of the $2k if you can. I bought CAD this week from some black market dealers in Canada (Nigerians) and I bought in two batches at N560 and N562. I was just hissing like Naira is so useless. |

ednut1: Oh, I probably wasn’t clear. The CBN portal requires that you upload both your return ticket and valid visa. I don’t have PR status till I do my first landing so it’s just the valid visa for countries where visa is required (along with tickets). The reason I asked about multiple applications is because some banks like GTB are notorious for not giving PTA to all applicants (likely high demand) while people have had better chances with others like Access Bank. Just wondering if we should be casting our nets wide. |

I got my COPR and counterfoil yesterday. I had submitted my passport to the Lagos VFS on the 21st of March and got pickup email on the 25th of April. Passport and COPR were both processed in Accra (Lagos automatically sends there at no extra cost for now cos they don’t have stamps). For those who may be planning to use either Lagos or Accra, you can shorten your timeline (if pressed for time) by using DHL. I say this because my counterfoil was generated since the 14th (same issue date for COPR) but it still took a while for Accra to send back to Lagos. Has anyone gotten PTA recently from their bank? The only bank I have the minimum of 6 months banking history with is Stanbic and their limit has been reduced to $2k which is painful. I applied for PTA this morning and I still put $4k as the amount I need. I’ll see how it goes. A bit of a mischievous question: can we apply for PTA at multiple banks? Would one bank know if another bank has approved your PTA application? My husband has two main bank accounts with 2 banks and I was thinking he should apply with both. 3 Likes |

tannystacey: Either one works depending on what your organization is comfortable with. I was working with a template that had “To whom it may concern” but my company insisted that they don’t issue reference letters without an addressee. Use the one that’s most convenient and acceptable for your company. I’ve seen people use either and it works. 2 Likes |

canadagal24: Awwww, sorry about the queasy stomach and nausea. Thank you for mentioning this so I know to pack some snacks in my toddler’s diaper bag just in case. Apart from my toddler, I’m pregnant and get nauseous when I don’t eat on time. The paid shower is equally interesting. Did you pay for the napcab? Love all the little details. Glad for you that your port of entry questioning was simple enough. All the best in your new country! |

tannystacey: My company also gave me a reference letter that doesn’t contain a list of my duties. I still used it but got one of my senior work colleagues to write a supporting letter just listing out the duties of someone in the position I occupied. His supporting letter was not on a letterhead so I stapled his complimentary card on it and merged the two letters. My advice is this: use your work reference letter as the main document then write an LOE to explain that your organization’s standard practice is to exclude work responsibilities from reference letters and so you have attached your original offer letter which states your responsibilities and initial remuneration. You should also explain the change of name in the same LOE and the supporting document for that could be a screenshot (with links on the LOE) from your company’s website. I’m assuming the company’s “About us” page will contain a statement on the change of name. In short, any official statement by your company on their change of name would serve as evidence. In summary, reference letter plus LOE plus original offer letter plus evidence of name change plus any payslips. All these should be merged into a single document. 2 Likes |

dipset01: No one can say really. In my case, I got biometric request for my husband two weeks after AOR. It all boils down to the efficiency of the officer in charge of your file. Try not to think of it too much although I know it’s easier said than done. You can get biometrics on time and then radio silence for months and you can get biometric in what seems like a long time and then everything becomes sharp sharp from thereafter. No one can accurately predict. Give it another 3 weeks before overthinking it. You can also look for WhatsApp group of people who submitted in March so that you can be comforted that your timeline is totally within range. 4 Likes |

Tgain: On the issue of funds, your POF requirement doesn’t change regardless of whether she’s included as accompanying or not. As long as you disclose you’re married, your proof of funds will reflect that. Since there’s no incremental financial impact, I’d say include her because a single point can be the difference between an ITA and “had I known” especially if IRCC goes on pause again. She has already written it and it won’t hurt to include her scores. 1 Like |

deejay102: This is not true. Bank reference letter is the main requirement as per the IRCC guidelines. The 6 month statement is actually a Nigerian workaround but not a requirement. I didn’t include any bank statement in my application. 3 Likes |

cadno: If you already have an ITA, submit your application. My funds were not up to 3 weeks in my account at the point of submission and I got PPR in 2.5 months after submitting. The key here is to make sure you can explain the sources of the funds in a letter of explanation and attach any relevant documentation. For mine, I wrote an LOE and included a table showing breakdown of the different funds and their respective sources e.g. year-end bonus, payslip for my husband and I and evidence of sale of USDT (a crypto). I attached all the supporting docs to my LOE and I didn’t have any issues with my application. IRCC doesn’t expressly say 6 months old funds just that you must be able to convince them that your funds are free from any encumbrance (i.e. not borrowed). 4 Likes 1 Share |

He’ll call a POS agent to help you with the raw cash. His name is ASP Moshood but sadly, I have deleted his number. You can use Inspector Moshood as a keyword to search the thread. PS: remember to go with your passport photograph. 1 Like 1 Share |

cutebear: Thank you for the encouragement. Yes, I'll still have 10 weeks before my due date by the time I land. I gave birth to my first in the middle of the lockdown with no possibility of family traveling to Lagos to help so my husband and I are accustomed to caring for a newborn on our own. We’ll just have to do it. 2 Likes |

Profgordons: Thanks sir. The spacing between my PPR and estimated delivery date doesn’t allow for adding the new baby to my application. I’m currently researching other provinces that give immediate coverage. The reason we were considering staying with my brother is that we’re doing a soft landing and would only be in Canada for some months and then return to Nigeria to wrap things up with our jobs. I’m pursuing an internal transfer that would involve renegotiating my employment contract after my maternity leave. So our plan was to move permanently when that’s sorted. 1 Like |
