Hello,

I hope you landed safely and doing well.
Thank you for your help so far. I intend to arrive in Canada next month and I'll like to know how you bought CAD before landing. Thank you very much 🙏🏽

Yes, I landed safely and I’m adjusting well. My husband got $2k from his bank (FCMB) through the PTA route. We supplemented this by buying CAD from the black market. My brother helped me with this one but I can ask him what the black market process is. We also still had quite a lot of NGN when we landed and will be looking to convert this soon. Have you tried PTA?

Good evening house,

I intend to use my wife as the first applicant, while I'll be the dependent because of age factor. She is a Toxicologist and she work as a Sterile Processing Technician in her dad's hospital here in Abuja. She has been working for 4 years now.

The challenge is that no money was paid into her account as salary during these 4 years period.

How can we then proof her work history since bank statement won't show any money paid as salary for these durations.

Thanks.

The hospital should write her a work reference stating her designation, role, how long she’s been working, number of hours, and compensation. They should clearly write there that her monthly salary has been remitted to her in cash for the duration of her employment. I think this is covered succinctly on Page 1.

Apparently my passport expires on the 20th of July, 2023 and the closest date available for biometrics for a new one at the London embassy is July 17,2023. I recently aced IELTS so I intend creating a profile and joining the pool. Can I use this “about to expire” passport to enter the pool whilst processing a substantive passport ? I know once I get to passprt request stage I can’t use a passport that has less than 6 months validity

Yes, you can create your profile with your current passport. No issues. At PPR stage, you’ll just submit both the old and new one together.

Hello everyone,
Please,I need clarification on Work Experience, NOC and Work reference letter.
My hubby has about 10yrs work experience including NYSC. After NYSC he took a job for a yr plus before joining the company he presently works. On his present job,he has 8yrs experience. My question is,is he to get reference letter from the other 2 jobs, bearing in mind that this first 2 jobs have a different NOC from his present job of 8yrs. Or should he only get reference letter for his present job of 8yrs?

Someone should please help to clarify 🙏

He only needs a work reference letter for the 3 years of experience he used in claiming points. He can put the NYSC and previous job in personal history and get a reference for his 8 years’ experience.

Depends on what provider you’re using for your medical. Is it IOM? I wrote a detailed comment on the process for IOM if you can do a search on the thread.

How long will it take for them to get back to me after I have submitted my medical sheet and medical form on the webform My semester has already started since monday Thanks.

If this is for study visa, you’re better off on the Canadian study visa thread. The time before they see your web form depends on the visa office and officer treating your file.

The CBN limit is still 4k, bank are only reducing to 2k to manage demand. You can apply with 2 different banks but must have a return ticket.

Ah, makes sense, thanks.

Congrats.. Can't wait to hear your landing gist.
GTBank was also reduced to $2k, with the fact you need to add a return ticket I almost find it not worth it anymore tbh.

Ohh really. I think FCMB still has a $4k limit. It seems a number of banks are gradually reducing their limits though but CBN portal still allows you to input $4k. Thankfully, we have return tickets so fingers crossed that we get approved.

You should definitely take advantage of the $2k if you can. I bought CAD this week from some black market dealers in Canada (Nigerians) and I bought in two batches at N560 and N562. I was just hissing like Naira is so useless.

i don't think PR qualifies for PTA anymore, return ticket is required. The PTA is via CBN portal not the banks, they have your BVN so you cant game them. pele

Oh, I probably wasn’t clear. The CBN portal requires that you upload both your return ticket and valid visa. I don’t have PR status till I do my first landing so it’s just the valid visa for countries where visa is required (along with tickets). The reason I asked about multiple applications is because some banks like GTB are notorious for not giving PTA to all applicants (likely high demand) while people have had better chances with others like Access Bank. Just wondering if we should be casting our nets wide.

I got my COPR and counterfoil yesterday. I had submitted my passport to the Lagos VFS on the 21st of March and got pickup email on the 25th of April. Passport and COPR were both processed in Accra (Lagos automatically sends there at no extra cost for now cos they don’t have stamps). For those who may be planning to use either Lagos or Accra, you can shorten your timeline (if pressed for time) by using DHL. I say this because my counterfoil was generated since the 14th (same issue date for COPR) but it still took a while for Accra to send back to Lagos.

Has anyone gotten PTA recently from their bank? The only bank I have the minimum of 6 months banking history with is Stanbic and their limit has been reduced to $2k which is painful. I applied for PTA this morning and I still put $4k as the amount I need. I’ll see how it goes. A bit of a mischievous question: can we apply for PTA at multiple banks? Would one bank know if another bank has approved your PTA application? My husband has two main bank accounts with 2 banks and I was thinking he should apply with both.

I’m yet to land. I’ll be landing next month. My brother booked the appointment for me. I’ll keep you posted.

Hi, please any help with this will be much appreciated. Still looking for a gynaecologist in BC and almost due and running out of time. Thank you and God bless.

I’m also headed to Surrey, BC to birth my baby. I don’t have a gynecologist contact though. I was able to book an appointment with a family doctor and it’s after seeing the family doctor that he/she will refer me to a gynecologist.

I think they are one of the best if not the best but you will have long layover in France, 5-8 hours. Else you are good to go. If you want a shorter trip then fly BA which has a 1-3hrs layover in London. That is the shortest you can get I believe.

Thank you 🙏.

Please can I address my letters of reference for my work experience as "To whom it may concern?

Or do I need to address it to IRCC? I just want to have a template so I dont keep contacting former employers all the time when I need a reference.

Thanks

Either one works depending on what your organization is comfortable with. I was working with a template that had “To whom it may concern” but my company insisted that they don’t issue reference letters without an addressee. Use the one that’s most convenient and acceptable for your company. I’ve seen people use either and it works.

Landing Gist

Hello everyone,
This plane ride wasnt great for me the food took too long to come, and they didnt give us any snacks. I also have a very sensitive stomach so after eating i fell asleep and when the plane was about to land in frankfurt, i started feeling like i was going to throw up and pass out, the food didnt taste bad but my stomach didnt like it. i had to start practicing breathing exercises into a paper bag. I was pressing the bell for the hostess but none of them came, I passed out for a little bit and i felt light headed, but thankfully i was okay, but my experience was already below average.
I finally landed in frankfurt, i had an 8hr layover. so i first i went to shower which cost about 6.90 dollars it comes with towel, soap, lotion, hair dryer and lots of privacy i spent almost an hour in there. then i found napcabs and slept for 2hrs which made me feel a lot better.
The port of entry in Calgary was so seamless, i checked yes for smoked fish, cray fish in my bag, but they didnt ask me to open the bag. I had to go to an area marked E for permanent residents but it literally took 5mins they asked for my passport ,COPr and my new address, I gave my airbnb address and that was it, they didnt even ask about proof of funds.

Awwww, sorry about the queasy stomach and nausea. Thank you for mentioning this so I know to pack some snacks in my toddler’s diaper bag just in case. Apart from my toddler, I’m pregnant and get nauseous when I don’t eat on time.

The paid shower is equally interesting. Did you pay for the napcab? Love all the little details.

Glad for you that your port of entry questioning was simple enough. All the best in your new country!

Hi guys..
I received ita last week, an di have some questions.

For employment reference, i have an experience from april 2018 to feb 2020

But my employer changed name around June 2019. 2019. However when i was filling the work experience form in ircc, i just put the most recent name of the company as company name.

My offer letter was on the old name.(it had my duties and roles)
Some of my payslips were from the new name.

My reference letter from the company Has their new name and everything i need, but they didn't put my duties

What can i do in this instance? Do i write a letter to explain the company's name change?

I intend to attach every bit of documentation from this company.

My company also gave me a reference letter that doesn’t contain a list of my duties. I still used it but got one of my senior work colleagues to write a supporting letter just listing out the duties of someone in the position I occupied. His supporting letter was not on a letterhead so I stapled his complimentary card on it and merged the two letters.

My advice is this: use your work reference letter as the main document then write an LOE to explain that your organization’s standard practice is to exclude work responsibilities from reference letters and so you have attached your original offer letter which states your responsibilities and initial remuneration. You should also explain the change of name in the same LOE and the supporting document for that could be a screenshot (with links on the LOE) from your company’s website. I’m assuming the company’s “About us” page will contain a statement on the change of name. In short, any official statement by your company on their change of name would serve as evidence. In summary, reference letter plus LOE plus original offer letter plus evidence of name change plus any payslips. All these should be merged into a single document.

Why is no one responding the waiting is really getting to me, I would expect my medical result will have change nw

No one can say really. In my case, I got biometric request for my husband two weeks after AOR. It all boils down to the efficiency of the officer in charge of your file. Try not to think of it too much although I know it’s easier said than done. You can get biometrics on time and then radio silence for months and you can get biometric in what seems like a long time and then everything becomes sharp sharp from thereafter. No one can accurately predict. Give it another 3 weeks before overthinking it. You can also look for WhatsApp group of people who submitted in March so that you can be comforted that your timeline is totally within range.

With a point of 7 in writing. It only adds up to 478. Is it advisable to include her for 1 point or just wait out the 475. Aside increasing the finances(amount we intend to bring to Canada), what other part of the application do I need to modify? Thank you

On the issue of funds, your POF requirement doesn’t change regardless of whether she’s included as accompanying or not. As long as you disclose you’re married, your proof of funds will reflect that. Since there’s no incremental financial impact, I’d say include her because a single point can be the difference between an ITA and “had I known” especially if IRCC goes on pause again. She has already written it and it won’t hurt to include her scores.

Bank reference letter is not a requirement. It is just trying to do too much. Your statements plus a very detailed letter of explanation for any questions that may arise from the VO around the statement is all you need. They will verify even if the CBN governor give you reference letter.

This is not true. Bank reference letter is the main requirement as per the IRCC guidelines. The 6 month statement is actually a Nigerian workaround but not a requirement. I didn’t include any bank statement in my application.

PLEASE house, what's the answer to this considering I had an express entry profile expired without getting an ITA. I had to create a new one after the former expired.

Has [NAME] applied to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada before? YES or NO

Answer “NO” because an active profile is not an application. You can only submit an application post-ITA under EE.
PS: If you’ve applied for visitor/tourist visa, your answer should be yes.

Was your case a SINP application or the regular Express entry ITA.? Because SINP is very clear about that clause, i dont think she is at the mercy of IRCC as she is still at the provincial jurisdiction level. Should SINP not be satisfied with her failure to meet this requirement she could lose the precious 600 point opportunity.

No, mine was EE. I thought he had an ITA but wanted to decline to pursue SINP.

Guys please what do you advise me to do.

I just got my ITA too March 23rd/24th
Most of my Funds came in this March 2023 from all sources.

Is it advisable to submit my application for SINP nomination ?

I hear we need minimum of 3months for the Funds to be in my bank account before submitting. Is there a waver ??

Will they decline my application ?

If you already have an ITA, submit your application. My funds were not up to 3 weeks in my account at the point of submission and I got PPR in 2.5 months after submitting. The key here is to make sure you can explain the sources of the funds in a letter of explanation and attach any relevant documentation. For mine, I wrote an LOE and included a table showing breakdown of the different funds and their respective sources e.g. year-end bonus, payslip for my husband and I and evidence of sale of USDT (a crypto). I attached all the supporting docs to my LOE and I didn’t have any issues with my application. IRCC doesn’t expressly say 6 months old funds just that you must be able to convince them that your funds are free from any encumbrance (i.e. not borrowed).

Hi everyone, please I’d like to know the best way to get PCC (Police Character Certificate) from Alagbon these days. It was 5k the last time I had to do it. Haha! I will really appreciate cost, contact person if necessary, and any other tips to get it smoothly. Thank you.

I did mine in December 2022 and it was 45k. I got the contact from this thread. He doesn’t accept transfer (though that may have changed). He’ll call a POS agent to help you with the raw cash. His name is ASP Moshood but sadly, I have deleted his number. You can use Inspector Moshood as a keyword to search the thread. PS: remember to go with your passport photograph.

She can do it. She and her husband should go to Alberta. I have a friend that did the same thing. She planned to stay in Toronto and landed in Alberta because of her pregnancy. She landed in the middle of covid lockdown, so you can imagine how tough things were. Later, she and her husband decided to remain in Alberta because they fell in love with the province. They have a house they bought now, and life is going great.
As long as she has a supportive partner, she can do it. Many people move to countries where they don't know anyone.

The whole process of adding another baby could take up to an extra year. You can't trust Canada and their timelines. Let her go and give birth to her Canadian citizen and enjoy free healthcare and benefits.

Also, she won't be giving birth 5 days after landing. She said she would be 30 weeks pregnant so there would be enough time for them to settle down and plan.

Thank you for the encouragement. Yes, I'll still have 10 weeks before my due date by the time I land. I gave birth to my first in the middle of the lockdown with no possibility of family traveling to Lagos to help so my husband and I are accustomed to caring for a newborn on our own. We’ll just have to do it.

If your status permits, you can wait and give birth in Nigeria before traveling, it will save you a fortune. But like others mentioned, better to land in another province that offers immediate MSP. I would prefer the latter personally, if you are traveling with your spouse, it is good you hit the ground running immediately. I personally would avoid staying with a relative, that’s a different topic entirely.

Thanks sir. The spacing between my PPR and estimated delivery date doesn’t allow for adding the new baby to my application. I’m currently researching other provinces that give immediate coverage. The reason we were considering staying with my brother is that we’re doing a soft landing and would only be in Canada for some months and then return to Nigeria to wrap things up with our jobs. I’m pursuing an internal transfer that would involve renegotiating my employment contract after my maternity leave. So our plan was to move permanently when that’s sorted.
